Description: In the Florida Keys you'll find this old Keys-style marina and fish shack "somewhere on A1A." A true conch atmosphere with many tasty delights, here in this Florida Keys restaurant you'll find yourself indulged in the Caribbean-inspired cuisine, the compassionate people and old Keys tranquility that is the Hungry Tarpon restaurant in Islamorada. The building has been standing since 1947 and with a home like Robbie's of Islamorada, plus a fascinating history, it all makes the Hungry Tarpon a part of the tradition since 1976. Enjoy dining on our bayside deck with tiki torches lighting up the night. Relax with friends over our fabulous appetizers and watch the boats come and go. Stroll our open air shops then wander to our sandy beach, melt into one of our bayside lounge chairs and let the sea air wash away the rush of the day.

The Hungry Tarpon is the restaurant located in Robbie's Marina (bayside). Watch people feed the famous tarpon fish while you enjoy a drink (wine and beer only) and watch the cars go by on the bridge. I had a Cuban Sandwich and my boyfriend had the grouper. He said the fish was so flaky and for being fried, did not taste greasy at all. My Cuban was great and made just like Lil Havana. great place to stop on your way down to Key West from Miami since it not only is a restaurant but also has shopping with lots of local artists, tarpon feeding and much more!

Last year, I gave the Hungry Tarpon high praise.

This year, however, we were disappointed. The service was slow, the waitress not knowledgeable or efficient, and the food just average, and for the first 30 minutes of our visit, we were the only people in the place!

Everyone is concerned with bathroom accommodations. I do not know if I made comments last year, but I must say the restrooms, located behind the restaurant, were deplorable. There were puddles of water on the floor, and they were not very clean. Supposedly they are for patrons only and you must get a key from inside the restaurant. Unfortunately, the restaurant fronts a marina with arts and crafts vendors, and people from there stand in line for the restrooms, even though they do not have a key. This restaurant puts patrons in the position of becoming "restroom police": knowing we were the only patrons inside, do we hand off the key to the next person waiting or do we refuse and risk a confrontation?

I do not think we will be returning to the Hungry Tarpon in the future.

This place has, quite simply, the best fried fish I've ever eaten. Very crunchy, not greasy, and not too much "fry"---certainly not like a tempura, but a really, really good coating.
The view is good, especially if you like watching the action in a marina with lots of boats (and people) coming and going. And this is a small, very personal thing, but they also had the best fountain Coke! Not flat, not syrupy, just right.
Other food was kind of ho-hum. Not bad, just regular "shrimp shack," and of course the dockside atmosphere is very casual. Service was fine; not especially friendly, but not rude.
And we travel with a dog, so being allowed to sit and eat with a pet is a big plus. Prices seemed fair for what it was.

We ate breakfast here twice during our 3 night stay in Islamorada. Between the beautiful view, watching folks feed the tarpon and the absolutely delicious filling food, we couldn't have asked for more. Will be back on our next trip to the Keys!

Food was fresh, unique, and really good. Our waitress was friendly w/o being intrusive. Overall a great stop!
