“Awesome place to stay”
Reviewed August 26, 2014

Great hotel we had a small beachfront cottage Morina I think was the name. The two restaurants across the main street were both very good. We opted for Pierre's more frequently because it is August and they have A\C. The beach is great with paddleboards, kayaks, etc... I fished and caught a Permit!

We adore The Moorings! We would pack up and live there, if we could.

It is an elegant, understated and incredibly beautiful place; an enclave of romantic, classically designed beach houses set in an old coconut plantation on the water's edge, halfway down the Florida Keys.

Now I have to confess that I'm a journalist/author, and my first 2 times staying at The Moorings were to photograph it for 2 design books. The first time I paid for my visit; the second they kindly gave me a comp. On the second visit former president George Bush was there – or had just left? Apparently he loves it too. (He adores the fishing.)

Both times, I was so enamoured by the quiet luxury, the sublime palm-tree lined beach, the people, the beautiful mood of the place, even the quiet swish of the palm trees in the night breezes, that I decided to take my partner there for 2 days. (And we live in Australia, so reaching the Keys isn't easy!) We dined in Pierre's (both nights), drove down to Key West for the day, swung in a hammock with a book, and generally felt very fortunate and grateful that we could spend time in such a place.

Thomas and his staff are some of the loveliest you'll encounter on the Keys. They will happily assist you, but this is mostly a place to go if you want to be left alone, to read, sleep or do your own thing. It's an escape in every sense of the word – from people; deadlines; stress; cities or life itself. It truly is one of the most beautiful, most surprising, most delightful and most memorable corners of the USA.

Room Tip: I stayed in the Treehouse – a lovely hideaway with its cute mezzanine and four-poster – as well as o...

My family has stayed at the Moorings Village for 21 consecutive years. Once a cocoanut plantation turned into a beautiful, quaint gataway for all of those lucky enough to know about this jewal of a place tucked away off the main road. We continue to come back because the houses are non-stuffy, immaculately designed to be comfortable and adorable. The beach is private limited to only guests, offering the old fashioned security and comfort of yesteryear. We are a group of 15 with activities for us all. I love photography and The Moorings is my favorite for this (see postings). There is fishing, sailing, windsurfing, snorkeling and reading under the cocoanut trees which we all enjoy during our stay. The area offers plenty of places to go eat. However, we all enjoy staying in and doing takeout or cooking ourselves. After dinner we all play board games or do XBox dancing (even the dads)!
Fabulous, fun and very relaxing vacation place.

My husband and I stayed at the Moorings Village a few weeks ago while in the Florida Keys for our 25th Anniversary. This was our first stay at the Moorings Village and we were very impressed! The grounds are spectacular, and the beach was not only beautiful, but more importantly it was not crowded. No umbrellas are needed because the palm trees provide plenty of shade. We went for kayak rides every day, snorkeled, swam, and enjoyed the pool too. One of my favorite things is that it's very private and you'll never have annoying people right next to you at the beach getting drunk or listening to music too loud. There is plenty of room for everyone.

While we were there, we had a few issues which were out of the staff's control. They were top notch and very professional about it! There was construction that got pretty loud because of the road crew nearby, and at one point they even broke the water line. The staff were extremely understanding about this and made every effort to make our stay a wonderful one. ** By the way, the construction was short term and only lasted a few days **

Another big plus for this resort, is that it's within walking distance to several wonderful restaurants and bars. One thing we look for in a vacation spot, is NOT having to drive anywhere.

Thanks to the staff for making our 25th anniversary trip to the Keys a wonderful special experience! We hope to return next summer and bring the kids with us.

Thank you for the nice review on TripAdvisor! And thank you for choosing The Moorings to celebrate your 25th anniversary. We are glad you enjoyed the peace and serenity found around the property. Thank you for your understanding about the Monroe county work project that was going on around the neighborhood close to the resort. We are glad this did not damper your otherwise perfect stay. We look forward to seeing you again next summer and meeting your children!

The Moorings Village and Spa is beyond words. The phenomenal views, secluded beaches, and caring staff make your stay worth every second. My husband and I recently were married and stayed in the Honeymoon Cottage. Even though we live in Islamorada, we wanted to feel like we were away. The cottage was so romantic, stocked with everything you need. If it wasn't there, then the staff would make sure they could get it for you. We ended up staying an extra day because the experience was hard to leave. Thanks Natasha, Bryanna, and Kelly for making my fairy tale come true!

Room Tip: You will be happy with any cottage you choose!

My husband and I recently stayed at the Moorings - in the honeymoon suite, a stand alone one-bedroom house with a wrap-around porch and french doors. This is an absolutely amazing, picturesque property, and our stay could not have been better. We look forward to staying at the Moorings during all of our visits to Islamorada in the future.

Of note:
The staff, Kelly and Natasha, were very accomodating and friendly.

There were bikes, paddleboards and kayaks available for guests to use ALL DAY, EVERY DAY, unlike other resorts that we've stayed at on Islamorada, where you're charged an activity fee, but are then unable to participate in any of the activities because you weren't there early enough, and everything is first come, first serve.

The pool is very large, and during our stay, it was never crowded.

Beach seating and hammocks were always available, at any time of the day.

The office sells a variety of resort wear which, although pricey, came in quite handy.

The Moorings has been by far the nicest accommodation that we've stayed at in the Florida Keys, from Key Largo to Key West. If you're thinking of staying elsewhere on Islamorada, don't do it! We were so glad that we decided to spend a little more and try out the Moorings Village, because every aspect of our stay was perfect. Our only regret is that we couldn't take our resident kitty with us when we left!

Room Tip: We found the honeymoon suite to be the perfect location on the property, being somewhat set back, bu...

We came to The Moorings with our 18-month-old who has food allergies, so we needed a full kitchen to prepare all our meals and snacks. It was THE PERFECT GETAWAY. The cottages were cute and well-appointed, the grounds, pool and beach were beautiful and peaceful, shaded by gorgeous palm trees, and the staff was exceptional. If you're looking for a place where you can relax, escape, do your "own thing", but still have someone there to assist you when needed, this is the place. Thank you for a wonderful stay - and for letting us stay another day because we didn't want to leave! We will definitely be returning.
