The Moorings Village

The Moorings is an excellent place to visit if you are looking for a quiet and relaxing stay. The grounds and cottages are very clean and the staff is prompt and friendly. The Treehouse is located in a quiet spot on the property with easy access to the beach. The Moorings is centrally located with only a short drive to Key West or Miami. A camera crew was on the grounds our first 2 days, which was a slight negative to our stay. The only other negative is that there is a family friendly resort next door and often times loud children and other adults would paddle/swim close to the Moorings beach. This wasn't a huge deal, but was one thing my husband and I noticed.

We were a family traveling with 3 teenagers and wanted to stay in the Keys for a few nights. I booked the Moorings mostly from reviews I'd read on the internet. We arrived late (about 9:00pm) the security guard brought us to our lovely cottage. Upstairs where we were expecting to find one of the bedrooms with 2 beds, there only was one bed. Traveling with 3 teenagers, everyone having enough space is VERY important. He was very quick to suggest a rollaway which he located and set up while we left to go have dinner. The next morning we awoke to a post card like scene. After making some coffee from supplies that were left for us we started out to explore. Lush greenery, beautiful pool, inviting tennis court and a meandering walk to a perfect white sand beach is what we got to enjoy. The water was so still it was impossible to see where the sea ended and the sky started. The beach was littered (in a good way) with kayaks and SUP's. We all took a turn- it was lovely. Returning later that night- discovered that housekeeping had not been in our unit- next morning found out that housekeeping is an additional $15 an hour. As this was not communicated to us it was surprising that a resort of this caliber would consider such a thing. We look forward to returning.

The Moorings... The Moorings is set back in a tropical like garden, that is filled with greenery, large draping trees and beautiful landscaping. Nestled into the landscaping are quaint little cottages, 1, 2, 3 and 4 bedrooms. These cottages also line the beautiful white sand beach that is filled with palm trees and hammocks just steps from your front door.

The one thing you won't see at the Moorings or on the beach is a lot of people even when the Moorings is packed you still feel as if you are nestled away in your own private home with tranquil ocean views.

Although the weather in Islamorada is often beautiful and sunny, sometimes like anywhere in Fl it does rain, but when you are at the Moorings you don't mind the rain. Often times this gives you an excuse to enjoy the cottage and read a nice book on your private balcony. Or take a nap with your windows open and the smell of the ocean right outside your room.

The cottages are tastefully decorated in a very Coastal Living style the cottages are very simple, but all of your necessities are in your home.

Natasha on the property is the sweetest most accommodating person on the staff. She's helpful in all areas, and an expert on activities in the area, if you need something she'll find it. She has brought our family fresh baked danishes, given us recommendations on family photography, made dinner arrangements and gone on coffee runs when we ran out. She will do anything and everything to make our stay enjoyable. She's one phone call away and everyone enjoys being around her. We can always count on Natasha making our stay enjoyable.

I enjoy Islamorada for it's low-key environment but what makes it great is the local restaurants, shopping and the bars right on the water. The Moorings provides bikes and first consideration for reservations at almost all of the local restaurants. The area is so safe you can bike to any of the restaurants and bars right from the Moorings day or night.

There truly are no better options in the Fl Keys.

Thank you for your heartfelt description of The Moorings. All of us here on staff are happy to help you with anything you may need. We often hear how many of our guests do not tell their friends about The Moorings because they want to keep it "secret" so we wont' book up! We appreciate you sharing your feelings and we look forward to seeing you again soon!

As a well seasoned traveler, I have been all over the world and my favorite vacation destination is The Moorings in Islamorada, Florida. The Moorings have very well appointed cottages right on the Atlantic Ocean with unbelievable picturesque views. The large resort property was once a former coconut plantation, the landscaping is extremely plush and tropical. With every visit, my family and I feel as though we have stepped on our own private island.

Our family loves the cottages that are located directly on the direct beach ocean access, with fantastic porches to enjoy a beautiful sunrise or a glass of wine at sunset. Cushioned beach chairs are available anytime along with a lovely breeze and plenty of shade, if desired.

The pool is very nice and spacious as your would expect in a resort. I have never seen more than 3 or 4 people at the pool area or on the beach. You have the ultimate privacy and luxurious accommodations all to yourself anywhere on the property.

The staff at The Moorings are exceptional. Natasha, Leslie, Debbie, and Kelly are committed to making your vacation perfect.

Many times, the staff has stocked my cottage with groceries/supplies, made dinner reservations, booked fishing excursions, picked up birthday cakes, mailed packages, booked spa appointments, pick up/deliver lunch, arrange for car rental, and many other services. They are extremely professional, respectful, and friendly. We look forward to each visit to The Moorings because we know the staff is working to ensure that we have the best vacation experience possible.

We enjoy many of the local restaurants including Morada Bay, Pierre's, Chef Michaels and Kaiyo Grill which are all within walking/biking distance from The Moorings. A great place for a frozen drink and to enjoy the sunset is Lorelei on the bayside.

It you want a quiet, safe, tranquil, relaxing vacation in a tropical paradise then The Mornings is the perfect place.

Room Tip: Favorite cottages are Albright and Plantation.

I've had the good fortune to visit The Moorings twice, once in a professional capacity as a photographer, and more recently for a short vacation with my wife. This review is for my more recent visit, as while working, it was hard to fully appreciate the splendor of the property.

The grounds are often used for photo shoots by magazines and high-end clothing companies (and Zac Brown's last music video), and you can see why the second you step foot onto their property. While the registration office is only two blocks from the bustling Overseas Highway, it feels as if you've stepped onto a secluded Caribbean island. The cottage accommodations are spread out and separated by dense tropical foliage, creating a sense of privacy that does't exist in a hotel, or even a private condo. The first night we were there, we were told they were almost sold out, but I don't think we saw more than six or seven other people on their entire beach that day!

Our cottage (called Honeymoon) offered views of the ocean from the bedroom and living room as well as the wrap-around porch (a great spot to enjoy breakfast). The decor was simple, yet elegant, with just the right amount of beach influence. No cheesy signs quoting song lyrics, or professing "Life's a Beach," no cheap wicker furniture, just soft colors and dark woods, and all within easy walking distance of the front desk and property amenities. I believe complimentary bikes are also available, though we didn't use them.

Natasha, Kelly, and Leslie at the front desk were always helpful with suggestions for things to do around the island, or where to eat (Pierre's, Chef Michael's, Ma's Fish Camp), and whenever we needed anything, it was taken care of quickly. Natasha even coordinated a boat rental that was brought directly to the property's pier, negating the need for us to load the car, drive to the marina, load the boat, and then reverse the process when we were done.

We loved every minute of our stay, and will be back. Next time we may even bring our children.

The Moorings Village almost makes it. People stay here in small, well-built houses/cottages disbursed around the beautiful and well-maintained property. The website photos depict the place perfectly and completely. The quiet, non-swimming beach is spectacular, and the large pool is very enjoyable. (We did not use the tennis facilities, bikes or kayaks.) The houses are equipped with the expectation that guests will eat in for some meals, but our kitchen was poorly equipped. (For instance, we were given one small packet of coffee for four adults for 2 1/2 days and about $1,500.) The most annoying issue was the very small supply of soap and shampoo for four adults and the total lack of hooks or racks anywhere to hang wet bath towels, pool towels and bathing suits. We concluded that our house was designed by a young, male architecture student with no real world housekeeping experience or knowledge. For the price -- without housekeeping -- this place should be a little better, and the advertised high price should include the things that are listed as "amenities," such as newspapers, bikes, kayaks, etc. and not be paid for with an involuntary "Resort Fee of $45. We will, however, return for the tranquility and escape from the mass of tourists next door at Cheeca Lodge.

In all of my 25 years of living in Key West, nothing makes me feel more like home than staying at the Moorings. I feel as if I have stepped back into old island days. Quiet, tranquil & stunningly perfect. It's hard to find gems in the Southernmost Keys anymore, so STAY here and experience a little piece of coconut palm plantation HEAVEN.

Room Tip: You name it, can't go wrong!
