This hotel is exactly how a boutique hotel should be run and managed - amazing friendly welcome, beautiful gardens and landscaping, views to die for, and nothing too much trouble for the staff. This was undoubtedly our best hotel of our 10 day trip through The Keys and we were sorry only to be staying for one night really. We were offered a glass of wine on arrival whilst we checked in, and then shown to our room with a full tour of the property. The pool and waterfront location are just heavenly. We will tell all our friends to stay here for sure.

Our only small gripe was the rather small and unimpressive inclusive breakfast hand delivered to the room (to be fair - at any time of your choosing!) which we felt rather let down the amazing impression we had had throughout our stay. Other than this small issue, we thoroughly enjoyed our short stay in the property and will certainly go back for more sometime soon!!

Your comments are much appreciated. The staff tries very hard to make sure your stay is everything you expect. We have been working on getting the continental breakfast just right. It appears we may need to look at it again. Reviews such as this one are useful in helping us to offer the ultimate getaway for couples. Thank you for your contribution and we look forward to your return.

We stayed for a long weekend. It was perfect. I'm hesitant to write this review because I would like to keep it my own secret. You feel totally isolated and pampered. First class all the way. You hardly see another guest. The dinner recommendations were excellent. The pool and the beach were both lovely,

Your comments are great appreciated. With only eight rooms we can book up rather quickly. Recently, travelers have a tendency to reserve approximately two months out which leaves OH with availability if you plan in advance. We like referring to ourselves as Islamorada's "Hidden Treasure" as even locals are surprised to find us. Thank you for coming and we look forward to seeing you again.

We just got back from a 5 night stay at the Ocean House and were delighted with everything about it. The staff is welcoming and incredibly attentive; if I asked for coffee, I got the packet within minutes.

We stayed in the Islamorada room upstairs. Its a very spacious room with 2 Queen beds separated by a screen (useful if your spouse snores). There is a nice sized balcony, looking out over lush gardens, the pool and the ocean. There is a full refrigerator and microwave. Our first afternoon, we went to the CVS across the street and a nearby grocery to stock up on water, beer, wine and snacks.

From 7:30 AM to 11, they will bring a continental breakfast to your room, with yogurt, fresh fruit and sweet rolls. There is a coffee pot in the room and you can get packs of both regular and decaf coffee.

The grounds of the hotel are gorgeous and the place is impeccably maintained. There are two shaded cabanas on the beach, as well as a shaded hut.

The pool is fine for a dip but not really big enough for lap swimming. There are one and two person kayaks you can take out on the ocean.

The hotel has bikes you can borrow. We used them a lot to bike to lunch. There are a lot of good restaurants in the area. Benchley's is right across the street. We had two good dinners there.

I highly recommend this hotel. My only (small) recommendation is a towel rack in the bathroom and some umbrellas by the pool and beach to provide shade.

Room Tip: We liked being upstairs so we did not have to hear people walking around above us.

We are pleased you took full advantage of the many complimentary amenities we offer, such kayaks, bikes, and cabanas. Our staff tries hard to be responsive to your needs, which include a continental breakfast delivered to your suite, poolside, or beachside. Ocean House has one sole purpose - relaxation. We encourage guests to take part in these activities as a way to immerse themselves into a Keys state-of-mind. Thank you for staying with us and we look forward to serving you again soon.

The feel of Ocean House is so calm, so serene, so wonderful, that it still earns 5 stars from me in spite of a few flaws. This is certainly not the place to go if you are looking for excitement (which is a good thing, in my opinion!) There is no bar, no pool scene, no restaurant, no nothing except a handful of people enjoying some peaceful relaxation. This seemed to be a little too much quietude for one college-aged female guest who spent much of her time chatting on her cellphone on the beach.. If you need lots of stimulation, please seek it elsewhere.

The bikes and boats available for easy use were very helpful. The location is convenient (walking distance to a pharmacy & dollar store in case you forgot anything as well as a couple restaurants.) Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful.

Truly the only thing we both could barely stand was the overly squishy and very uncomfortable bed. It was very soft and seemed to have dips in the middle where others had slept although that could of course be only my perception. It made our sleep restless and unpleasant. We seriously considered moving it to the floor so that there would be some support underneath but didn't think there was enough room. I have stayed in much cheaper hotels with much more comfortable beds, and since it seems many others have complained about this very same topic, I hope that OH takes this information to heart. I thought I'd read on here that they were going to replace the beds but ours, at least, was still the absolute lowlight of the whole trip. Some may say that it is silly to complain about something so minor, but spending about a third of my trip on a piece of furniture is not insignificant to me, especially if is so incredibly uncomfortable.

The rest of the trip was fantastic. I also agree with the myriad other posters who complained about noise but it sounds as if this is about to be remedied so I'll not repeat their comments at length.

We appreciate your thoughtful comments. Our new natural latex beds have been well received by our guests. These beds can be adjusted to a firmer setting upon request. My husband and I chose Ocean House based on reviews from previous visitors. We originally planned to stay 2 nights here and 2 nights at a similar hotel in Key Largo. Unfortunately, our stay was cut to one night due to a family emergency. The staff at OH was so understanding of our situation and did not charge us for the second night. We loved the room upstairs, the Coral Reef. Very upscale and beautifully decorated. The welcoming glass of wine was perfect ...we only wished they had a liquor license so we could have purchased more for the evening out by the water. I would highly recommend this for couples wanting a nice, romantic stay for a few days.

Room Tip: The room upstairs facing the ocean had a great view and very private.

We are so sorry your trip was cut short. The staff at OH were very concerned and we hope everything turned out OK for you. At the moment we can only provide complimentary alcoholic beverages. We are in the process of obtaining a license which will allow us to sell beer and wine. Our main objective has been to get the property developed. Now that the landscaping is finished, we can focus our efforts on other items that can provide more value to our guests. Thank you for your recommendation and know that we will hopefully have it available upon your return visit.

My husband and I spent three nights at Ocean House and could have stayed for a month! The room, the grounds, the location and the people were all amazing. I had to force myself to leave the property because I wanted to make the most of every moment we were there. When we did leave the property, we traveled easily on the nice bike cruisers (provided by Ocean House) to a number of beautiful restaurants and bars. The only time we actually used our car was to go to the grocery store to pick up drinks, etc.
Breakfasts were a perfect start to the day....not too much that you felt stuffed and tired and just enough to keep us going to lunch. Also, as other reviewers have pointed out, it really did feel like we had the place to ourselves and when we did come across other guests everyone was so polite (and quiet!).
We stayed in a room on the first floor and you really can hear the people walking upstairs. It sounds like management is working on this issue though. In my opinion, I would not let this sway your opinion from staying at this amazing place!

Room Tip: Stay on the second floor if you are a light sleeper.

It is such a pleasure to see our guests enjoying the Ocean House experience. We have been tweaking the breakfast a bit over the past month alternating with fresh croissants, cinnamon rolls and other sweet breads to provide variety. Glad to see the new breakfast is being well received. Yes, we are preparing to work on the floors this fall which is why we are closing right after Labor Day and opening the first week of November. Thank you for staying at OH, and we look forward to seeing you again.

Imagine if you had a friend who invited you to an 8 bedroom private residence on Islamorada. Your room is spacious and beautifully decorated. The fixtures and furnishings are high-end, tasteful, but not ostentatious. You feel immediately at home because this is the exact vibe you would cultivate if you were lucky enough to own a magazine-worthy second home in paradise. There is a small staff who greets you immediately and lets you know that they will interact with you as much or as little as you want.

You and the handful of guests occupying the other rooms all have your own balcony with a gorgeous view, hedges providing privacy and separation. The grounds are meticulously maintained with a wide variety of flora (individually identified with small plaques). The meandering path from the main house to the water reveals something wonderful around every bend: a zen garden with a cheerfully bubbling pond and water feature, a smattering of wooden posts with contemporary shower fixtures to rinse off the salt/sand, a pavilion with seating for 10 and tables for Scrabble and chess, an infinity salt water pool heated to uterine temperature, a secluded hot tub, a fire pit surrounded by Adirondack chairs and stone seating areas covered with beautiful cushions and pillows. The lounge chairs have cushions with spanking-clean terry cloth slipcovers, so you never feel like you are rubbing up against beach grime or someone else's sweat.

The property ends with a large sandy jetty that overlooks gin-clear waters dotted with coral rocks. On one side is a private residence with a fishing dock. On the other side is an undeveloped parcel with an outcropping of exotic vegetation. There are cheeky lizards and bright-white birds who fish for minnows in the shallows. There is a fleet of kayaks available for the taking: no one asks for your room number or a deposit. In the distance you can see the Alligator Reef lighthouse, an engineering marvel built in the 19th century. If you are curious, you can Google it with a five-bar cell signal or the wi-fi that you can connect to for free, without hassle.

I have a tropical beach fetish and prefer the places that were developed organically, individually, with small residences and fishing camps. Places where you feel like you have stepped back in time, where you get a unique taste of the sublime coastal culture and the exclusivity that just cannot be replicated by the mega-resorts on the more crowded, commercially developed coastlines where the native environment has been stripped away.

I will sheepishly admit that I thought that I had to go to the Caribbean, Hawaii, or the South Pacific to find this. But better late than never--the Florida Keys are magical and the Ocean House pays the right amount of homage to it. This place will take your breath away. Love at first sight. You must come here.

Room Tip: We prefer corner units on the first floor, so we picked Ocean Dawn. All rooms at the hotel have equ...

WOW! What could I possibly add to your review but to say thank you. Everything you stated is exactly what we envisioned for our guests. What a wonderful feeling knowing we are providing what we set out to accomplish. I am an avid gardener and it brings much pleasure seeing people appreciate all the hard work that went into it. A year ago we decided to change the name from Ocean Dawn to Ocean House because it really does feel like second home. Thank you for staying with us and please come back again.
