Just returned from Ocean House, this resort is almost perfect. Very upscale, very private, and very relaxing. The staff went out of the way to make the stay perfect. If you have high expectations, this place is for you. We took the complimentary bikes and toured about 5 other resorts on Islamorada and nothing compares except maybe Checa Lodge, and that place is large, Ocean House is small, only 8 rooms, nice and private. The only negative i can come up with is if you are in a bottom unit you can hear the people above you walking around.

We just returned from an extremely relaxing and quiet vacation in Islamorada Key at the Ocean House Boutique Hotel. It's recently been renovated, and they did it right! The grounds are beautiful, with a nice clean and very private pool. In addition, the sandy ocean front lounge chairs were so relaxing where you get a nice breeze and endless horizon of the ocean. We kayaked and paddle boarded each morning off their shore and would go down the coast and see all of the beautiful homes and boats. We also had yoga classes available that we did a couple times in the mornings. Everything is so close to the resort that we could ride the hotel bikes down to dinner, or lunch or just to pick up a bottle of wine for our afternoon by the pool. The room was very comfortable and a good size, and very clean. The bed was comfortable as well! Our room looked out onto our patio which extended into their water garden. Amazing flowers including orchids and lots of little white butterflies. The best was having a member of the staff deliver breakfast to our patio each morning while we sat and enjoyed the sound of water trickling through the garden. There is no onsite restaurant, but they will take any order you want, and will run and get it for you. What I thought would take a while for them to do, it only took about 5-10 minutes for our food to be delivered on a basket weave tray on white plates, white linen napkins and silverware. You would never know it's not coming from their own kitchen. I have Celiac disease, and they were extremely accommodating to my gluten allergy. Made adjustments to my breakfast, and ordered food knowing it always had to be g-free. An Extremely Gluten Free Friendly spot!

I highly recommend if you are looking for a quiet very relaxing get away, this is DEFINITELY your spot! The staff Evette, Jen and Brian are the best, and will do anything you need assistance with! It was absolutely perfect!

Room Tip: I preferred the garden view, over the ocean view. Everyone faces the ocean, but ocean view is the s...

My husband and I just returned from spending four nights here and it was amazing! This place looks like it is off of a post card. Because it is a small, boutique hotel it was private and oh-so-relaxing! We did make some new friends (hi Sue and Carolyn!) but that was by choice and could have easily disappeared into our own world for our time there if desired. Many previous reviews stated, in detail, all the great amenities Ocean House has to offer so I do not feel the need to repeat. Look at the pictures traveler's post - that is just how it looks in person! PERFECT!!

What really made our stay from "great" to "superior" was the staff!! They bend over backwards to make you happy and relaxed. TO THE OWNERS AND MANAGEMENT: I HOPE YOU KNOW WHAT A GEM BRIAN IS. Brian made our trip so peaceful and smooth and he is truly an asset to the Ocean House. His dedication to the guests and property in general deserves substantial recognition. I know we would have loved the accommodations regardless but our experience was made because of Brian.

We spent almost all of our time at the Ocean House during our four days in Islamorada except when we felt like going out to dinner. And, while at the Ocean House spent almost all of our time outside! During the day we were by the pool or beach. The cabanas and tiki hut provide plenty of shade if you want to be out of the sun but still outside. My husband also had a massage 2 mornings in a private cabana and loved it! Every night after dinner we would bring our drinks down to the ocean side fire pit to relax and star gaze.

The ONLY thing that would have been better would be if we could still have the fire pit on after the staff leaves at night :-/ The staff had to turn it off when they left for the evening. Since Islamorada doesn't have much of a night life we looked forward to doing this and some nights would have liked the option to have the fire longer. But this hardly deters from staying at the property overall.

As for some of the other reviews that were negative about the resort: the complaints about the balconies not being private I feel must be because people like to complain. It is true that instead of having plaster or cement walls dividing the balconies you can just draw a curtain (a very high quality, outdoor-grade canvas). This provides with plenty of privacy -you cannot see through them. Sure, you can hear people on the other side but it is the same way in any other place with a balcony that has concrete walls - you are still outside and can hear a neighbor talking! The perk of the curtain is that you can draw it back and access the spiral staircase to go down to the pool/beach instead of going through the main entrance of your room and walking around the building. As for the bedding being uncomfortable - we thought it was just fine and my husband can be really high maintenance about bedding. We were not tearing back the sheets to read the label of the mattress to go buy one at home or anything but the bed was not uncomfortable nor did we lose sleep because of it.

If you are on the fence about whether or not to stay here - DO IT! It was fabulous. We are absolutely going to be returning, hopefully sooner than later, and can't wait to stay here!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Salt Water Taffy Suite. It was on the second floor on the end and perfect! It was v...

If you can afford to stay at this property do not hesitate. This boutique hotel has thoughtful touches at every turn. Upon arrival you are greeted with a cold choice of drinks. The rooms are newly renovated in island chic and have large refrigerators, coffee makers and a microwave. The beds and bathroom are comfortable. Privacy is at a premium here. Balconies can be closed off with curtains and have comfy lounge chairs.
The star of the property is the grounds. Elegant and comfortable with a pool and hot tub that have the perfect water temperature. There are plenty of covered spaces with magazines and beautiful wood board games to add to the enjoyment of the day. There are two poolside cabanas as well. Beyond the pool area is a sandy beach with hammock, lounge chairs, a sofa area that also has a gas fire pit for evenings. You will want to live in this magnificent outdoor area. The gardens and waterfall add to the atmosphere. Brand new Townie Cruiser bikes are parked in the front ready for a short ride to many casual dining spots. Kayaks and snorkeling gear are in the back.
Coffee and large pitchers of cream are provided for making coffee at your leisure in the morning. A small basket of delicious croissants and juice are delivered to the room. A small plate of fruit and some hard boiled eggs would have have rounded out an other wise lovely morning treat. A small fault for an otherwise spectacular stay.
If privacy and island elegance are to your liking don't miss the perfect retreat.

We spent 5 nights at this resort, which I guess is much longer than almost any other guest/couple do here. Actually all is already said by the first 3 reviewers' comments, so I will not repeat all the pros and cons but only point out what really will last in our memory for long and shape our future decision for another possible stay at this hotel.
Yes, the entire lot is really breathtakingly beautiful in its landscaping, hard to beat by competitors, especially taking into account that the property is relatively narrow and long and has only a pretty short private ocean shore/beach. Also the house makes an attractive impression, both by design as by craftsmanship. But in the end the major positive factor for this hotel is the really outstanding quality of the staff - we personally have experienced the attentive care of Brian very positively. We stayed 3 nights in a ground floor room and 2 nights in an upstairs suite (complimentary upgrade!).
But then, I am sorry, but that is the reason we cannot but only give 4 out of 5 points in the rating : However nice the house's exterior and the room's interior is designed and set up, we were very troubled by the really poor quality of the beds a such and the mattresses, also taking into account the pricing of the rooms. Especially my sweetheart had really troubles sleeping a full night through. And if you have not cooled down in your love you would be nastingly reminded to keep cool in order not to inform the neighbouring room/s of your nightly acitivities. Also the floors are of a quality that when staying in the lower floor rooms you would hear the guests in the room above yours walking about, especially at night (the rooms are not carpeted, which does make sense in a beach hotel however, but adds to the noise problem). Also the double doors connecting two rooms side by side were far from noise cancelling and we could understand more than a single word that was spoken in the other room.
Apart from these problems we were really extremely pleased with our stay and would still recommend a stay at this hotel, especially in a room on the first floor. We hope they completely replace all beds soon and then I would still call this hotel perfect!

Room Tip: Take a room on the first floor, not on the ground floor

We spent three nights at Ocean house, two in the Key Lime room and one in the Laffy Taffy suite. It was more than we could have hoped for.

The property is gorgeous. From the salt water pool, private gazebos, and man made beach, you have everything you need. On top of that, the fabulous staff takes excellent care of you, providing a delicious breakfast of fresh fruit and pastries each morning, keeping you stocked with fresh coffee and anything else you may want. They also provide paddleboards/kayaks and snorkle gearl on the beach for you to take out whenever wish.

While we were there, we pretty much had the whole place to ourselves...and enjoyed every second of it!

The rooms were OK. This may have reduced my rating, except for the fact that the property and service more than make up for it. Both rooms had excellent showers and were nice spaces, but those beds were atrocious....lumpy and with a slight mold smell. In the Laffy Taffy suite, the bed would squeak loudly every time we moved. We never had a good sleep. In addition, the Key Lime room is below what we can only guess is a room with two double beds and the floors aren't very thick. On our second night, guests checked in above us very late and continued to walk about their unit until 2am. Impossible to sleep to.

I do, however, want to point out that the showers were fantastic. Great water pressure and heat.

My recommendation: Get a room on the top floor, spend your time outdoors, and recognize that you're paying for a whole lot more than a bed....perhaps they'll have replaced the beds by the time you arrive.

Room Tip: Get a top floor unit so you don't have to listen to neighbors above you.
