“Not a beach hotel but, still beautiful and romantic!!!!”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

We just check out yesterday after spending a 3 day stay at the beautiful Marriott Beachside Hotel in Key West. It's true, is not a beach hotel, it is actually located in the bay but, with all the other amenities the hotel has to offer, not having a beach was not so important to us. They have amaizing presidential suites, some with a magnificent bay view like in our case, very convenient with a full kitchen and 2.5 bathrooms, beautifully decorated. The service is outstanding and their restaurant (located in the main lobby) is very good too, Breakfast Buffet was delicious. Awesome pool surounded by beautiful gardens, it made it seem a tropical caribbean island, just lovely. Their shuttle bus service, what a plus, very punctual and enjoyable ride to Duval street. It is a Hotel designed for couples not family with children, most of the hotel only offers king size beds in their rooms/suites. Very romantic and relaxing place, in my opinion, one of the most complete and elegant hotels in Key West.

Room Tip: Highest floors have a private spiral stair to upper level for a more lovely view.

I have to start out this review by saying that i am a hotel snob. But i wanted to try to save a little money and stay at a more pedestrian place. I would rather spend few days at a great place. That is just me.
Everything about this hotel is average with a few notable exceptions. The staff is very good, attentive, helpful and friendly. That makes a big difference. And the Hotel restaurant was pretty darn good for some place off the beaten path. The restaurant does offer a shuttle into downtown Key West which is the only practical way to get there.
So for the bad stuff. To name this place 'Beachside' is like naming Donald Trump's hair 'natural'. Yes, his hair is made of natural fibers, just not his natural fibers. There is no beach. In fact, the Keys really are not the place to go if you want the beach experience. The sand and water combination the hotel does have is an inlet with a man made beach. No waves, No cabanas, no bar service. It's kinda pathetic.
BTW there is a beach about a mile away. The fisherman throw their leftover clam shells there and it smells to high heavens.
The hotel rooms are way to small for someplace away from the main drag. The weather was beautiful while we were there but if it had rained i would have had to kill myself. There rooms have no movie system so you are stuck with regular TV. There are not organized activities that you often get at a beach resort.
The hotel does offer a shuttle into downtown. If you go in the afternoon you will get Manny, a native and ex-cop who knows all the cool stories and crazy places along the way. The shuttle can be overcrowded in the evenings and ends fairly early. Bring cab fare. I rented a scooter from across the street. That worked out great but they are dangerous so use caution.

Stayed 3 nights in presidential suite. It was huge & clean, maid service twice daily. Excellent friendly staff, shuttle service to Duval street so we actually preferred not staying down in all the action. Apparently some of the shops & restaurants close for vacation in Sept but it was still busy. Great hotel.

Let me get the bad out of the way...We stayed at the Marriot on our Marriot points...Our room had no balcony, no view, only one small window that looked out on the parking lot. When booking the hotel we were promised a room with a view, an upgrade etc...because it was our anniversary. When we asked about this at the hotel it would be $70 a night. We didn't want to pay so we just asked for a mini fridge for the room...I will send one up right away, was the quote. A phone call 2 hours later...we don't have a fridge you are on a wait list for one...stayed a week not another communication...Our feelings on our first use of our Marriot points...use your points get treated to second class service.
That out of the way the shuttle service was outstanding and the drivers were so good you didn't need to take tours. We tipped them a few bucks every ride as they were entertaining and always on time.
The pool area was beautiful you felt like you were in the carribean...covered cabanas, lots of seating. Rooms were very clean and well kept. Nice to have wifi by the pool.
We had a great week but would have been better if we received what was promised.

Room Tip: upgrade to the suites

Stayed 2 nights here, which was definitely not long enough! Loved the glass of champagne at check in which really set the tone for the rest of the stay. The suite was gorgeous and huge! The staff-poolside, front desk, concierge, bartenders in the blue bar-helpful, pleasant. Will go back again and again!

My Husband and I along with another couple stayed at Marriott Beachside Hotel and had a great time! This is the second time here and hopefully will be back again...soon! This trip we each had a Presidential Suite..which is fit for a king. With huge beautifully decorated rooms, two baths, full kitchen (granite, stainless and cherry), dinning room for 9 and large living room. Balcony with furniture, and spiral stairway down to pool and hot tub. The master bath had double sinks, jetted tub and walkin shower. Washer and dryer tucked away off foyer too, you could live here for a while easily..

Staff was wonderful, very polite. Free Shuttle to town ran like they said...Pick up at front lobby on the hour 9am - 11pm and return from Margaritaville on Duvall street at 20 mins. past the hour 9a-11p. After 11:20pm taxi's are all around. (Bar's downtown are open till 4am)

Pool is great, plenty room there is a hot tub too and wait staff is excellent...very attentive all the time. Beach is small, but really there are no beaches in key west...sand you do see there is hauled in and they are handmade.

Barefoot Billys right there at hotel is great....Guys are awesome! We rented partycats..a double like lounge with canopy that is electrically propelled through the water..Nice to just float around in ocean. Jet Ski's are the best!! Thomas was our guide and he did a great job! I do have to say if your not physically fit you may be a little sore the next day across your shoulders...but it's well worth it!! It's not just slow going either, you actually get to gooooo...It was one of the highlights of our trip. The four of us never having been on one was a little scary at first, but Chris did a great job instructing us on how to handle them, once your on it for a short time it's a riot. Tip..we did go out on a cloudy day so we didn't have the glare off the water or get baked by the sun. I know we will do this again on the next trip..

The little electric car's a fun too..we rode them all over town for four hours. Easy to drive and park. Have a lock box for shopping too.

The hotel is a little out of the way, not in the center of town, but if you want quiet when you want it, it's perfect. Take free shuttle two miles to town and have all the partying you want. Other than maybe the shuttle running a little later than 11:20pm, I cannot say a bad thing.

As you walk into the Lobby area, you see the awards for customer service, then you find out why. Every area was staffed by knowledgeable, professional employees who did a remarkable job. Room was awesome, food delis, and no problems at all. Thanks!

Room Tip: Go for the one bedroom suite, really delightful!!
