Owner description: We are a fully accredited museum in the Florida Keys. Come discover a museum rich in history! We have amazing treasure in our 1622 Fleet exhibit of the Spanish galleons discovered by Mel Fisher and his crew. Also thought provoking Spirits of the Passage and Key West African Cemetery exhibits to glean insights into the transatlantic slave trade and Key West's unique role in it. And don't miss our three new exhibits -- Spanish Coins in the New World, the Real Pirates of the Caribbean, and the Science of Shipwrecks. You can even take a lab tour to see how history is revealed through excavation and conservation of shipwrecks. Make plans to visit. We're open seven days a week, 365 days a year!

Wasn't really sure what to expect, but thoroughly enjoyed the tour of the museum. We were in Key West on a cruise, so we only had one day in port. There is a lot of material to read, so we didn't have a chance to read all of displays as we had a limited time.

Mel Fisher is famous for his discovery of various shipwrecks worth millions of dollars. The stories are fascinating and tragic all at the same time. After your visit, if you REALLY loved the story, you can by some of the jewels yourself! There was an emerald for $340,000!

Seriously, if you have the time, stop by!

Pricey but interesting. My husband is a history buff and really enjoyed this museum.. Would love to be able to afford some of the coins in the gift shop.

For the price, I guess I expected a little more, but it wasn't that bad. The artifacts & the story was all very interesting. I think a little too much exhibit space was dedicated to Mel Fisher & the history of the excursions, it was kinda drawn out. The temporary Harry Potter exhibit upstairs really felt out of place in the museum, it would probably be wise to have a more relevant & interactive exhibit to appeal to the kids rather than the cop-out of attaching the Potter name in hopes of drawing crowds. Overall, it was an okay attraction.

Mel not only made money on the treasure - he is now making money on the tourists.

It is grossly overpriced - the charge should be a few dollars or free considering the treasures he found.

The first floor is OK, artifacts about the ships, a histrory of the hunt for the treasure. The gift shop has a bunch of tourist toys made in China.

The second floor is a blantant rip off. They are trying to increase child entrance fees, so they contrived some "Harry Potter" display - it is really insulting.

Save your money - go to Matheesons, on White and Virginia, have an ice cream with your kids, your time and money will be better spent or stay and play at the hotel pool with your kids.

Some of the exhibit was all right, but we felt that for the price of admission it should have been a lot better and more interesting,
