We booked two Danger Charters excursions - the Wind & Wine Sunset Sail and the full-day Snorkel, Sail, Kayak excursion - while on a recent trip to Key West at the recommendation of the concierges at our hotel. Both were the highlights of our trip. First, be aware that if you are looking for a sunset party boat, look elsewhere. The Wind & Wine Sail is unique and special. If you are looking for a calm, relaxing, enjoyable way to drink some good wine while sailing and watching the sunset, do the Wind & Wine with Danger Charters. Our captain, Wade, and the crew, Vic and Dale, were professional, knowledgeable, and friendly. They only take a maximum of 23 people, and there were only 16 on our sail which made it feel like we were on a private boat with a few friends. Vic and Dale explained the wines and went around to serve hors d'oeuvres of meats, cheeses, crackers, veggies, and hummus during the sail. Even though the sunset that night wasn't the most spectacular, the sail was such a great, relaxing experience. The sailboat was gorgeous and very clean and well maintained.
We booked the full-day Snorkel, Sail, Kayak excursion rather than the half-day because we wanted more time on the water, and we'd had our fill of Duval Street. We were very glad we did. This company knows how to do things right. No detail was missed. Our captain, Hague, and crew mates, Nick and Becky were again extremely knowledgeable, professional, and friendly, and the comfort and safety of the passengers was always a priority. They are part sailors, part naturalists, and part servers, and they did it all flawlessly. You can tell they really enjoy their work. Again the boat and equipment were extremely clean and exceptionally well-maintained. After our snorkeling, they served a quite impressive lunch spread. After lunch we stopped at a sandbar where we got to float around in the beautiful, crystal clear water. Then we anchored off of a mangrove island, they lowered the 2-person kayaks into the water, and we divided into smaller groups and had a guided kayaking tour around the island. As we headed back to the pier after a wonderful day on the water, Nick and Becky walked around and served delicious chocolate chip cookies - a nice added touch. Again, there were only 16 passengers on our excursion! I think most people do the half-day excursions, but they are missing out on a wonderful day on the water. Also, they offer a repeat customer discount. If and when we return to Key West, we will definitely do both the Wind & Wine Sail and the full-day excursion again. Danger Charters is truly a class act!
