“NIce place, but....”
Reviewed May 8, 2007

We stayed three nights in the Southernmost House in Room 101.

The Hotel is a lovely property at the very quiet end of Duval Street.
To the other end of town (the bars) it is a 20 minute walk. Parking is included in the price of your booking which is brilliant.

The property has loads of charm.

1./ The breakfast served is just pastries and some cereals. You either sit on some bar-stools outside to eat breakfast or try to get everything back to your room....yourself No eggs, no bacon
2./ Access to the pool area is "sold" to non residents @ 5$ per day including one free drink. This is a bit of a drag as non Hotel guests
actually sunbathe on "your" sundeck. When you pay 500$ for a night I actually expect a bit of exclusivity for this price - else I would have gone somewhere where it costs 250.
3./ The picture on the website of the Southernmost House for the room
101 is INCORRECT. The room/suite does NOT have floor to ceiling windows out to the ocean (anymore?). The "Private Sundeck" is not private at all and thouse loungers (which you see on their website) are most definitely not there. So all in all quite misleading actually.
4./ No crib available although requested by phone and email. Only after a slight tantrum did they manage to organise one. Once again: I
can expect more for that amount of money.
5./ The (pool) bar closes between 8 or 9 pm. For a quiet drink: bring
your own bottle afterwards

Other then that: once the mob has left the pool and things have calmed down it is absolutely beautiful and romantic - but be aware: you are oceanside - so no sunset. But the views: just stunning

My husband and I loved the place. I would definitely recommend but when making the reservation, call and make sure they don't have any weddings or charity events going on. We were staying for 2 nights only and when we arrived on Saturday, fell in love with the pool area, couldn't wait to utilize on Sunday. When we woke up on Sunday, there was a Children's Cancer Charity Event going on and the pool was surrounded by tents and chocolate cake!!! Dan, the manager, was very apologetic, got us comp'd at the beach across the street, bought us a drink and took 1/2 off our room for one night. All in all, the place, grounds and view of the ocean was beautiful!

We did not even get to stay there because even though we made the reservation with a credit card they said we did not "pay" for the reservation. They then told us that the rate we were quoted was wrong and it was actually $100 more than originally quoted. The GM Dan told us basically to go somewhere else and that there was nothing he was going to do for us besides speaking to the guy who took our reservation and screwed up. The blonde female receptionist was also very unfriendly and had no hospitality at all. Before we even said anything to her she yelled at us for keeping the door open while everyone entered the lobby. It is very far from everything that you would want to go to on Duval St anyways so we are glad we went elsewhere. We have stayed in KW over 15 times and this is the one experience that was a negative one. Everyone should keep going there but do yourselves a favor and stay away from the Southermost House, you could not pay me to stay there!

Stayed here for 2 days in February with my family. Old mansion like building at the quiet end of Duval Street. Excellent, large room at ground level. Bar beside the pool until 10. Lovely grounds and my daughter loved the pool. Breakfast was included but is just ordinary. Very friendly staff. Right beside the Southernmost point. Very quiet and peaceful. Awesome sunsets from the beach. Will definitely stay here again when we come to Key West. Only problem was that they had for the Friday a wedding party by the pool which denied access for that for Friday afternoon and evening. We got a small discount for that but still should be taken into account when choosing the place. Really lovely place.
