The Southernmost House

Just got back from Key West. Our stay at the Southernmost was exactly what we had expected. Yes, it is older but that is part of the charm. We arrived a little early but our room was ready. Next door is the Southernmost Cafe so we went over and had a great lunch and then back to the pool. The pool was warm but not too warm and there was always a chair to be had--not sure why someone said they were brittle--didn't experience that. At night, our room was extremely cool--sometimes too much but with 90+ outside who is complaining! Street noise woke us up--after all we are on the same street as the southernmost buoy--but who wants to sleep in when there is so much to do! Went for my morning walk along Higgs and Smathers beach to White street pier--not too far from the hotel. Came back for breakfast which was filled with fresh fruit and yogurt as well as coffee which is exactly what I was looking for. My husband would get a sandwich at the breakfast stand a block away(not a fruit and yogurt guy) and we would then sit outside by the water and eat--very relaxing. Every day there was a nonalcoholic mimosa decanter if you needed a little drink later in the day or go right to the bar! There is also a refrigerator in your room so we bought some beer and just drank that by the pool. The hammocks were a nice place to take a nap or to cool off under the shady palm trees. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We will definitely be back!

Room Tip: If you like to sleep in, get a room by the ocean. Courtyard rooms have more street noise but it rea...

My husband and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary here and it was amazing! The Ocean View Suite was beautiful and reflected the old world charm of Key West. The staff was friendly and extremely accomodating to every need. We will definately go back for our next stay in Key West!

Room Tip: Ocean View Suites the best!

Spacious room, nice bathroom. Old but in a classic way with modern conviences including free wireless.
Its at the opposite from most of the Duval action but that can also be a good thing.

My husband and I along with another couple rented 2 rooms in this lovely B&B last week. it is one of the oldest and most majestic homes on the water with access to a private beach just a few feet away. The main house has three floors but no elevators. There is a gentleman who will take your luggage up to your room. here is my take on the place:
PROS: located in a central, yet quiet area with ocean views
Wonderful large balconies with nice seating
Beautiful, original decoration and chandeliers in every room
Comfortable beds and nice size rooms
Friendly, helpful, responsive, and attentive staff
Gorgeous pool that can be used late into the night
Nice size bathrooms with tubs and showers
CONS: Furniture needs reupholstering. Material is ripped in most chair/couches
The corners are filthy. Even though the bottom floor was professionally cleaned and waxed while we were there, there is a great deal of accumulated dirt in ALL corners.
The breakfast is pitiful. The fruit is thinly sliced and not a lot of variety. The danishes, breads and bagels are from the local Winn Dixie and not so fresh. The cubed cheeses looked like yesterdays left over each and every single day.
The pool is in desperate need of resurfacing with chunks missing
The chairs by the pool are so brittle from the sun that they cannot be kept in an upright position
The air vents all over, but especially in the rooms, are filthy

Over all this was a great place the location was great our room was perfect with the exception of a slight moisture like odor in the air but was cover by good fragrance. Was not noticable after a while. The room was clean and looked great! Just what we were looking for. The shower was big and nice walk-in type. The balcony was a nice spot to have a few beers before going out. During the day the sounds near by are great and relaxing same at night, however, if a busy night you can hear people down on the street and sometimes a bus or truck comes by in the early morning and makes some noise. It didn't bother us too bad we fell back to sleep. The rooms on the other side may not have that accurance but this is the first time I stayed so I don't know yet. We do plan on going back and staying there again. Although, the staff was nice, there are not to helpfull should you have a personal issues... after checkout I go to leave and find my car battery drained... I know, trapped in paradise! But we were ready to hit up Miami so I was ready to bounce. With no one else near being a option to ask for a jump I ask the guy at the front desk if he could give me a jump, well he said they are not allowed to get involved and could give me a jump... he asked maintenance if the had a charger but to no avail. I suggested one of the near by scooter rental place as a place to find a charger and maintenance introduced me to one of his buds and found a charger for the battery. So they redemed them selves a little... otherwise it was great and can't wait to go back.
