We enjoyed the butterflies, but only stayed about 20 minutes. There's only so much you can do in a big area with butterflies flying all over. I think children would enjoy it, especially if the butterflies were really active, but otherwise they might get bored. I saw some people with high end cameras; I'm sure they stayed a long time taking beautiful photos. We took a few when they would land on my husband's bright orange polo (hint: wear bright colors and they tend to land on you more often). If you love butterflies then this is a good place to go, but if you think they're nice to look at but don't get much more out of them, then I think this place isn't worth the money for admission.
But be sure to take your camera at least for pics outside the Conservatory with the giant wooden butterflies with cut outs for your faces!
