We booked a trip for 2 on the Yankee Freedom in Nov 2012. That week in Key West it was unseasonably cold and rather windy. Booking was a breeze. When we called they suggested the best days for us to go based on the weather. Upon arrival the staff noted that the ride out to the Dry Tortugas would be rough due to wind, and let anyone rebook without charges if they chose to. For those who wanted to brave the waves, they had motion sickness pills for sale. They provided a good breakfast of yogurt, cereals, breads, muffins and drinks. The crew came around and started handing out "barf bags", then came on the speaker saying that we were crossing into the deep water so it would get rough. Listen to them when they say that! Several people were seasick on the trip, but again, we knew what we were getting into. There was a line of people on the back of the boat trying to keep an eye on the horizon. The staff was great, walking around giving new bags to those few who needed them repeatedly.
Upon arrival they explained to us where to sign up for a tour of the fort and where to get snorkeling equipment. The tour was great. They really know their history. The place itself is beautiful. Totally worth the 70 mile hike out there. My husband attempted snorkeling, but again it was unseasonably cold and windy. It would be great to go there again when it is warmer. The boat had a good lunch buffet on board for you, sandwiches and such. The ride back was MUCH smoother, and they opened up the cash bar. I would definatley go again and recommend it to others.
