“Great day on the Yankee Freedom”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 4, 2013

We booked a trip for 2 on the Yankee Freedom in Nov 2012. That week in Key West it was unseasonably cold and rather windy. Booking was a breeze. When we called they suggested the best days for us to go based on the weather. Upon arrival the staff noted that the ride out to the Dry Tortugas would be rough due to wind, and let anyone rebook without charges if they chose to. For those who wanted to brave the waves, they had motion sickness pills for sale. They provided a good breakfast of yogurt, cereals, breads, muffins and drinks. The crew came around and started handing out "barf bags", then came on the speaker saying that we were crossing into the deep water so it would get rough. Listen to them when they say that! Several people were seasick on the trip, but again, we knew what we were getting into. There was a line of people on the back of the boat trying to keep an eye on the horizon. The staff was great, walking around giving new bags to those few who needed them repeatedly.
Upon arrival they explained to us where to sign up for a tour of the fort and where to get snorkeling equipment. The tour was great. They really know their history. The place itself is beautiful. Totally worth the 70 mile hike out there. My husband attempted snorkeling, but again it was unseasonably cold and windy. It would be great to go there again when it is warmer. The boat had a good lunch buffet on board for you, sandwiches and such. The ride back was MUCH smoother, and they opened up the cash bar. I would definatley go again and recommend it to others.

“Once in a lifetime experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 23, 2013 via mobile

Our family of four (two teenagers) took the ferry to Dry Tortugas over spring break. The fort is an incredible piece of history in a beautiful setting. The Yankee Freedom III appears to be new and was very clean. The crew was very attentive throughout the all day trip. Breakfast and lunch is provided. Other snacks and drinks are available for purchase at a reasonable price. I was glad we did not bother dragging a cooler along. Snorkeling gear is provided on shore. Surf was a little rough on our trip so we did not spend long in the water but did see interesting coral and fish in the ruins of the old dock. Could easily have spent the whole 4 hours exploring the fort.

“Great time!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 22, 2013

This is a great deal! Each person is fed breakfast and lunch and snorkeling gear is provided, admission to the fort and includes the ferry ride. The crew is really friendly and the journey is beautiful as you travel thru amazing blue water. You can also bring a cooler with snacks, drinks, etc - pretty much anything you need to be comfortable. We walked around the historic fort and then laid out on the beach and then went snorkeling. We brought an underwater camera to capture all the sea life - we saw gorgeous fish, corals and starfish. We had such a great! It felt like we were in an aquarium. I'd recommend at least visiting once as the ferry ride can be draining (about 4hrs total travel time).

“Trip to Dry Tortugas”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 19, 2013

This is definitely a bucket list item and you won't be disappointed! The Dry Tortugas/Fort Jefferson, located 70 miles W of Key West, is only accessible by boat or seaplane. The Yankee Freedom was a great ferry. It was very clean, with clean bathrooms, and the food was good. We also brought snacks on board. The crew was very personable and seemed to enjoy what they do.
We didn't snorkel, but others who did, really enjoyed the experience. My husband was impressed with how the equipment was sanitized.
The best part of the trip was having Chelsea as our naturalist. She was very knowledgeable and had excellent presentation skills. We like to go to national parks and we felt that Chelsea was one of the best naturalists that we have had.
If you like to take photos, as I do, this is a beautiful, scenic site. The colors in my photos are stupendous. Great for history buffs, too, especially with Dr. Mudd's cell being located there and learning more about him and his contributions to medical science. Overall, a lasting memory and a worthwhile trip. We would highly recommend!!

“Yankee Freedom II Crew Rocks!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 19, 2013

My husband and I were so impressed with the professionalism and service provided by the Yankee Freedom II crew during our trip to the Dry Tortugas. The ship is spotless, the food is fresh and good, and everyone was extremely helpful. We camped ... a wonderful experience ... and were also impressed by the attention paid to campers by the captian when the weather posed a potential problem to our leaving the island on our scheduled day. The captain took the time to come to the camp sites to speak with the campers about the weather. All in all our trip on the Yankee Freedom II was the best ferry trip to date ... and we've been on many.
