Our trip to Dry Tortugas aboard the Yankee Freedom II was a wonderful day. The crew provided outstanding service. They obviously enjoy their work and that makes for a great customer experience. The food provided for breakfast and lunch was beyond what we expected. The tour of Fort Jefferson was entertaining and informative and the snorkeling was perfect, even for a novice like me. It's a long way over there but well worth the trip. The water can be choppy so, if you're susceptible to motion sickness, be prepared. We saw a couple of people getting a bit green and the crew was very sympathetic and helpful offering excellent advice for keeping sickness at bay. We highly recommend the trip!

The ferry ride is a great way to visit the Dry Tortugas. Fort Jefferson is so interesting. The park rangers give you a great history lesson. The beach is so nice & the water warm & clear. A great day trip when you're in Key West.

Great experience! Everything an on time. Staff was very professional. My wife and I were going out to the Tortugas in search of some birds only found there. Ride over was smooth but coming back got a bit choppy. We were able to see the birds that were there but unfortunately we may have been a week or two early for several others.

Going to Fort Jefferson & the Dry Tortugas, was a wonderful day trip from Key West, Florida. Our reservation was for 09/25/12, but we received a call on 09/24/12, letting us know the excursion had been cancelled because the boat was being repaired. They offered to move our trip or give us a full refund. We had an extra day in Key West, so we moved our trip to the next day. There was adequate seating on the boat, both inside and out. A continental type breakfast was served: yogurt, bagels, juice & milk. For lunch, a nice sandwich buffet was offered with different types of bread, meats, cheese, condiments along with delicious potato salad, fruit salad, chips & water & soft drinks. Before or after lunch you could also buy extras: water; pop; ice cream; candy; frozen drinks & alchohol. It was nice to have two restrooms on the boat (plus one urinal). It took 2 1/2 hours to get to Fort Jefferson and 2 1/2 hours back to Key West. There is no cell phone service after you get just a few miles away from Key West. We had plenty of time to wander around the fort on our own. You can take a guided tour provided by the Yankee Freedom staff. I spent my time taking photos and snorkeling. I did wanter through the little bookstore and wished I would have spent some more time looking at the books they have there. The history of the fort is quite interesting. The Yankee Freedom staff have a "snorkel shack" on the dock at Fort Jefferson & can provide you with the gear you need. We used our own gear and snorkeled along the pylons and over to the beach along the front and side of the fort. There was intermitent sun the day we were there, so, snorkeling wasn't that great. I saw a barracuda, Queen Conch and quite a few tropical fish. Along the pylons I saw thousands of tiny fish. I know other people on our boat saw sting rays and nurse sharks. I didn't try the back side of the fort. It was fun to watch the birds nesting on the docks and pylons. And, if you want, you can just bask in the sun on the beach or sit at one of the many picnic tables. There were a few shaded picnic tables and there was shade inside the fort. When we returned after snorkeling there were fresh water showers on the back of the boat to rinse off. They also have male & female changing rooms on the dock if you want to change in to dry clothes for your trip back. The staff of the Yankee Freedom II were courteous & professional and helped us accomplish another travel adventure.

I highly recommend taking this day trip to Fort Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas. The crew members aboard the Yankee Freedom II are friendly, knowledgeable, and true professionals. The continental breakfast was plentiful and the coffee was good and hot. The trip out to Fort Jefferson is long, so make sure you bring something to read or maybe a movie on your iPad. Make sure you take the tour of Fort Jefferson led by one of the crew members. Everything is provided for you for your day on the island including snorkel equipment and a full lunch. Make sure you bring an underwater camera for unbelievable pics.
