Attraction details
Owner description: The house was named for William Curry, a penniless Bahamian immigrant who made his fortune reputedly as a salvager -those scurrilous fellows who preyed on shipwrecked travelers in Florida's pirate-infested waters.- Curry attained status as Key West's first millionaire and began building the Mansion in 1869. The architectural details are common to wreckers, incorporating elements of many ports-of-call: the widow's walk of New England, the ornate trellises and balustrades of New Orleans and the columns and colonnades of the Deep South. Curry's son Milton completed the Mansion in 1899, furnishing it with the 18th-century antiques and Victorian pieces gracing the parlor today. The imposing entry is paneled in bird's-eye maple, handwrought spindles and Tiffany glass sliding doors. A formal dining room is staged with Haviland china and faux replicas of the Curry family's original solid-gold Tiffany flatware. An 1853 Chickering piano, reputedly most recently of Henry James's Newport home, sits in the music room. Key Lime Pie was first created in the Curry Mansion kitchen by Aunt Sally. Today the home of innkeeper, Edith Amsterdam, the Mansion is also an intriguing museum listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Curry Mansion Inn...where the elegance of Key West's past is equaled only by the elegance of it's present.

“Great old house”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 10, 2013

For $5 you can wander around the house, through the attic, and even up to the widows watch. A magnificent old home with some beautiful (and some strange) furniture and decor. Worth exploring.

“Great B&B”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 28, 2013

We have stayed here three times and loved it each time we came. Beautiful spacious rooms (very unusual in KW) and a great breakfast with omlettes cooked to order. Nice happy hour in the late afternoon. Well worth your stay!

“I took the $5 5-minute tour I did not stay here”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 16, 2012

You can see the porch and the rooms decorated for Christmas. You can peek outside and see the small pool for guests and the patio for breakfast. You can't peek into guest rooms. Warning: not air conditioned. It was too hot in the attic to climb to the widow's alk and that is steep and not for everyone.

“Interesting House Tour”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 23, 2012

The antiques and decor gave an interesting look at Key West's past. A visit to the widow's walk at the top of the mansion is a must if you take the tour.
