Owner description: The house was named for William Curry, a penniless Bahamian immigrant who made his fortune reputedly as a salvager -those scurrilous fellows who preyed on shipwrecked travelers in Florida's pirate-infested waters.- Curry attained status as Key West's first millionaire and began building the Mansion in 1869. The architectural details are common to wreckers, incorporating elements of many ports-of-call: the widow's walk of New England, the ornate trellises and balustrades of New Orleans and the columns and colonnades of the Deep South. Curry's son Milton completed the Mansion in 1899, furnishing it with the 18th-century antiques and Victorian pieces gracing the parlor today. The imposing entry is paneled in bird's-eye maple, handwrought spindles and Tiffany glass sliding doors. A formal dining room is staged with Haviland china and faux replicas of the Curry family's original solid-gold Tiffany flatware. An 1853 Chickering piano, reputedly most recently of Henry James's Newport home, sits in the music room. Key Lime Pie was first created in the Curry Mansion kitchen by Aunt Sally. Today the home of innkeeper, Edith Amsterdam, the Mansion is also an intriguing museum listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Curry Mansion Inn...where the elegance of Key West's past is equaled only by the elegance of it's present.

Steps from the action on Duval Street (you will probably hear music at night - earplugs if you're a light sleeper). No need for a car, but there is free parking. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean. Breakfast is awesome and happy hour at the pool is nice, make yourself a drink, have a snack. You don't have to interact with other guests if you're not feeling social (like the morning after) there are lots of tables. Pool somewhat small but clean. There are 3 sections to the Mansion. The very old original mansion, very victorian. The James House across the street, less old but charming. We had a suite with a sitting room and additional bath that could be closed off for our son. There was a single bed with a single trundle under it. At this location there is also a hot tub on the back deck. They have laundry facilities available free too. Then there is the "Guest House" rooms alongside the pool. These looked to be newer but still done in a retro style. Don't miss the widows walk in the main mansion. All the facilities are open to all the guests regardless of which building you are in. Especially for the price, this was a fantastic place for us to stay. Hope to be back.

We have now stayed here for the past 3 years and cant wait to go back in September 2012 - this hotel is perfect for visiting Key west.
I cannot praise it enough for a friendly hospitable stay in crazy Key west
The location is perfect (just off Duval Street) with their own off street parking and swimming pool it cant be beaten.
Every evening you have a cocktail party from 17.00 -19.00 with all drinks and nibbles included - here you meet other guests in the hotel and have a really fun time and by the time you check out have made new friends and acquaintance's.
Breakfast too is brilliant will everything cooked fresh to order.
If you are thinking of staying in Key west you cannot go wrong with The Curry House - try it and see.

This was our first visit to Key West and the Curry Mansion and we were delighted with our choice. The house is absolutely beautiful inside and out. This was made extra special as we stayed just after Christmas when all the decorations were up. On walking into the house I couldn't believe this was where we were staying. It was just gorgeous. Staff were very friendly and a good laugh. Breakfast is top class and there is a wide variety of choices. "drinks time" which was from 5-7pm was great as it was located next to the pool and provided a great opportunity to meet the other guests. There was also a fantastic piano player or guitarist there every night. There was a wide choice of drinks and snacks.
The pool is small and not one you could do lengths in, but was fine for a dip as it was heated.
The location of the house is perfect and right around the corner from Duval Street which is the main street. It's also a 5 min walk from Mallory Square and the beautiful sunsets.
My only very minor complaint is that our room was right next to where they served breakfast and we got woken up most mornings when this was being set up, but we could live with that as like to get up and about.
Our room was spacious and very clean and well equipped. The room was cleaned everyday and we had no issues with it at all.
We absolutely loved the Curry Mansion, will be recommending it to our friends and will definitely stay here when we return.
