Owner description: Tropical gardens set in an old fort
Reviewed January 29, 2014

We enjoyed our trip to West Martello Tower and found it to be a cool oasis far from the craziness of Duval Street. The art was as appreciated as much as the plants.

The gardens were absolutely beautiful with a sense of walking into secret places. One brick pathway led through an opening framed by tree trunks and roots. It was rather like a hobbit dwelling! Orchids hung from a parabola. The garden club volunteer who greeted us was informative, pleasant, and personable.

This is a hidden gem that we found by accident, along a beach front and housed in the ramparts of an old fort. With a memorial to slave burial grounds next door, this makes a good stop. Plants are named, views of beach and harbor are lovely, it is very peaceful, and we found a delightful sculpture exhibit on the day we visited.

Beautiful plants with great labeling the horticulture was very well laid out and intermixed with bizarre art sculptures. The fort is very cool it would of been nice to see and learn more about the history of the fort/tower.
