“Great Part of Key West”
Reviewed February 24, 2013

It feels like this place must get overlooked. During my visit there were not too many others. I was able to find a shady spot to sit and read and enjoy the beautiful day. Also enjoyed the wide variety of flora and the ruins of the old Civil War fort.

“Gardens with fort”
Reviewed February 24, 2013

This place is for the history buff who likes gardening. The remains of the old fort (1840s) are shadows with dappled sunshine and a little spooky. The garden club has an orchid collection and many native plants. Lizards and iguanas scamper about. Tables and benches make this a real relaxing place to spend a few hours.

“Beautiful Gardens”
Reviewed February 23, 2013

If you're near Higgs Beach, you should absolutely take a walk through the grounds here. Bizarre, fun art installations and well-tended tropical landscaping.

“Nice FREE attraction”
Reviewed February 19, 2013

The botanical gardens are beautiful! The garden club is located right on Higgs beach. The views are amazing from inside this historic fort. We enjoyed walking through there and learned a lot from the knowledgeable staff. It is free, but donations are appreciated.

“What a find!”
Reviewed February 19, 2013

As a gardener & volunteer at our botanical center, I was very excited to find this combination of horticulture and history. Even in the dead of winter, there were many, many attractive plants to appreciate. This garden club is doing a great job!
