“Great location if it wasn't for the cruise ships”
Reviewed May 7, 2012

Third stay at the Westin in Key West. Paid a high price for an oceanfront room then sat looking at a cruise ship every day. For the price the Hyatt is much better and better view. I would not stay at the Westin again unless i just got an ocean view room.

Room Tip: Dont pay for an ocean front room and look at a cruise ship all day.

Thank you for your review. We're sorry you weren't happy with your stay. While we do have an active cruise ship port (which we state on our website), cruise ships do not dock here every day. The City of Key West has a cruise ship calendar available for everyone to see on their website - our dock is designated with a (B). This schedule is subject to change, and therefore it is not possible to predict/guarantee/notify guests about the presence or absence of a cruise ship when a guest books a room.

We booked a room at the Westin Key West Resort and Marina for April 30, 2012. We were going to drive from Fort Lauderdale to Key West. The weather was calling for severe rain and high winds. I called the Westin on April 28 explaining the bad weather and asking if we could get a credit at least as we knew we couldn't drive in those conditions. The person on the other end of the phone said no sorry she couldn't help us. I work at a company where I book hotels and conference areas and I would never book a Westin as their cancellation policy is much stricker than most. We received our final bill "and hope you enjoyed your stay".

Thank you for your review. We're sorry that you didn't get to stay with us. Our cancellation policies are in accordance with resorts of our size in and around Key West, and also those in other tropical destinations.

The location of the Westin is perfect; a short walk to Duval Street, and lots of restaurants, bars, and shopping in the area.
The heavenly beds are so incredibly comfortable, you run the risk of not getting out of them to enjoy all that Key West has to offer. I took what I thought would be a quick before-dinner nap, and I just had the hardest time leaving the comfort of the best beds the hotel industry has to offer.
Staff are very friendly; you can never go wrong staying at a Westin property, and this resort is no exception. Views of the harbor are very pretty. Rooms may be a bit dated, but they are large and comfortable.
The next time I plan a trip to Key West, I will definitely book a room here without hesitation. You may pay less per night at other properties, but the location and comfort level will never surpass the Westin Key West Resort and Marina.

Thank you so much for your review. Glad you had a nice time. Maybe we should put a warning on the Heavenly Beds? Caution: May induce inescapably restful sleep!

i booked an ocean view room at the key west westin and my view was mainly of the cruise ships outside of the hotel. I don't think any of the rooms will ultimately have a clear view of the ocean if a ship is in the harbor. These ships are ridiculously big. Better off with a pool view and save the money.
Other amenities at the hotel are very nice. Pool and restaurants are great. Fitness room is pretty weak.....but with all the walking, you get a lot of exercise. Don't get a car. Mine sat in the parking garage and never moved. take a taxi.

Room Tip: don't waste money on ocean front view.

Although the interior decoration is a bit outdated this place, especially the suite, is beautiful. Situated right next to the cruise piers you can wake up with the sound of a horn and see the big white boat glide in on the turkoise waters. The staff are friendly, efficient and truly care about the guests well being. The pool is nice, the sundeck offers great sunset views and breakfast is noisy. There are bikes availabe and if you really insist you can go to Duval Street in minutes.Make a tour around the island either biking or motoring and you will see that this is a lovely spot. If we ever go back to Key West, we will go back here for sure.

Checked in Sunday, April 22 for 3 night stay. Immediate front desk service was friendly and knowledgeable. Also, automobile valet provided friendly service while answering questions about the local area.Dealings with reservations manager (Max ?) was refreshingly expedient and provided graphic descriptions of room choices which, after our selection, proved 'spot on'.Had a nice view overlooking the pool out onto the water. Our balcony provided a delightful sitting area for sipping wine before venturing out to Duval street for the evening.Service around the pool area was efficient and friendly, bringing refreshments with little waiting.Overall, staff was found to be efficient and professional while maintaining a friendly and warming atmosphere. A great place to 'CHILL'.

Room Tip: ASk for 'Max' in reservations.

We arrived in Key West and was told our room would be available at 4:00. No surprise with that comment although many times the rooms are available earlier than 4:00. It was 5:20 until we gained access to our room. When we arrived at our room, we tried to call the Concierge to inquire about dining selections for the evening. We attempted to call the Concierge and the Front Desk 4 times. All four times, the phone just rang off the hook. It was a good thing I had visited Key West prior so we were able to secure dinner reservations ourselves. In the morning, we headed out to breakfast and stopped by the Concierge desk to make a reservation for a golf cart. The Concierge assured us that she would secure the reservation. When we came back from breakfast, the concierge had never even called for a cart. She was feverishly trying to find someplace that had carts available. She told us the cart would be 35.00 per hour only to find out that the cart was 90.00 for 2 hours. I reserved an Ocean Front room and paid the additional money for the room. We were located on the second floor and all we could see was the raling to the deck and some huge trees that blocked our view. As we were departing, 2 cruise ships came into dock so there was no view at all. Upon departure, we tried to access the bathrooms on the second floor of the lobby only to find the elevator out of order. I would say if I paid 99.00 for this room, it would have been fine but for 400.00 per night , the service was less than adequate and the view was non existent.

Room Tip: make sure your room request is above the 2nd story

Thank you for your review. We're sorry you had a difficult time reaching our concierge because they were busy helping other guests. It's always an option to stop by their desk in person as well. While we do have an active cruise ship port, cruise ships do not dock here every day. The City of Key West has a cruise ship calendar available for everyone to see on their website - our dock is designated with a (B). We also apologize for the inconvenience of the elevator being out of order. As you can understand, this happens on occasion and we must close the elevator to keep all of our guests safe until it is fixed. We have passed along this review to all staff for training and improvement.
