Amen to Donna H (previous reviewer): especially if you are a family, skip upper Duval Street and spend your time here. Great people- and boat-watching, activities including 2 small and interesting museums, large assortment of restaurants and shops generally with more 'grown-up' (i.e. less drunken tacky) atmosphere than upper Duval. Shops on Lazy Way (one street in from the waterfront) are lovely, especially "Stingray Steve's" where the products and service were simply fantastic (we bought hats to wear while swimming) and the "Red Door Gallery" which has (hard to find) local art and souvenirs and a friendly proprietor with lots of great stories (Go Habs !). Lots of amazing fish to see too (including huge tarpon!), bring quarters to buy fish food near the Turtle Museum.

Forget Duval Street. Stop and grab a fresh cup of coffee or freshly made smoothie at Cuban Coffee Queen. Look for the schools of fish under and around the boardwalk. Welcome the charter fishing boats as they return to the docks. Watch the pelicans gather to grab whatever it is the returning fisherman throw at them while cleaning the morning's catch. Charter a fishing trip for tomorrow. Walk thru the Turtle Museum. Check out the exhibit about Fort Jefferson, where Dr.Mudd was sent to spend his prison sentence as a result of treating John Wilkes Booth's leg after President LIncoln's assassination. Book an excursion to go snorkling or a day cruise to an island just to soak up the sun. Look for a manatee. Book an excursion for that day's sunset. I suggest Commodtion on the Ocean. Or for an evening on a Schooner to go star gazing. A short walk to Sunset Pier to watch sunset. Many many choices for fresh fish, cold drinks and talented musicians. I want to do this every day for the rest of my life.

Several excellent places to eat seafood and watch the sun set. We could watch the ships come and go, enjoy the evening under a banyan tree filled with tiny white lights, and listen to a solo guitarist on stage as we admired the sunset.

Boardwalk, restaurants, boat trips, fishing charters. Nice to have a walk round and decide whether you want to do any of the trips. Plenty of places to eat varying from burgers in bars to fine dining and many with a view over the harbour.

Everynite at the wharf area is a sunset party with buskers and lots of people. Very entertaining. We were there in March so needed to dress warm. Coolish when the sun went down.
