Description: A visit to our house is a unique way to relax and enjoy life's simple pleasures as well as our treasures from the sea. The word Bagatelle comes from the French and means "a trifle or a little nothing", often referring to a light, fun, yet not too serious spring time romance. The French brought their history of fine cuisine and their love of wine to the Caribbean Islands. It is in this tradition that we have combined our French heritage, southern hospitality and the indigenous tastes of the Florida Keys into the meals we prepare today. Our chefs blend the best of our locally caught fresh seafood, fresh produce and delicious tropical fruits for our tropical seafood dishes.

I usually don't like to dine right on Duval due to the crowds, etc. but Bagatelle's is an exception. They offer a terrific menu for breakfast daily and everything is always spot on. The service is also very good. Be sure to try one of their "breads". I tried the smoked salmon on focaccia and it was delicious. Their huervos rancheros are also very good - served on top of a crispy tortilla.

We decided to eat at Bagatelle at the last minute. They showed us to a table on the front porch, while it WAS a bit warm, it was pleasant. One side note, the music playing on the porch was a bit annoying because the music from Hogs Breath was loud enough to slightly overtake the music, so you got the noise from the street and two different songs at the same time. It didn't take away from the WONDERFUL food and staff. We had the lobster mac and cheese, and they deserve all awards for this! Creamy and full of lobster, this rich appetizer is the perfect way to start. We then had the swordfish, PERFECT portion size and the risotto and asparagus paired delightfully. We finished the meal by sharing a piece of Key Lime Pie....it wasn't to sweet or to tart.

Our group of 3 couples had made an open table reservation and were promptly seated upstairs upon arrival. We liked the set-up, the house turned restaurant with upstairs, downstairs, and outside seating. Cocktails were good, followed by wine. We had mussels, bacon wrapped shrimp and fried artichoke for appetizers. A bit of a service hiccup, with a delay waiting for sharing plates for appetizers - should have been addressed more promptly, but it was cared for. Entrees were seafood, lobster, and a scallops special. One of our party had seafood linguine, which she didn’t care for but restaurant swapped out to something she liked. What was completely baffling at this point, is a guest in the table next to us turned around and started screaming at us. Apparently she was vexed that we were loud - and to be fair, we are a boisterous bunch and after cocktails and wine, we were quite animated. However, no one had even asked appropriately for us to lower our voices, nor had she approached or asked the wait staff to intercede. That put quite a damper on things and got some of our party seriously pissed. Thankfully, she and her party left shortly after that, and the wait staff was very apologetic. Two of the other tables near us also commented on how out of line she was. The restaurant comped us some to die for key lime pie. Would return for the food - and try to stay away from cranky folks!

Food is good, but bill was wrong twice. They charged us the more expensive white wine by the glass (twice). When they removed the charge, they calculated the tip on the original cost. Questionable. Never happens to us and we dine out often. Not going back.

We arrived at 9am, the time it opened . The service was great. I had a western omelet which was good, but the side of potatoes had no taste; didn’t even appear to have salt on them. And , maybe it’s me but they tasted like a quartered baked potato. Not what a typical potato should be for breakfast. A disappointment when the you are paying something like $12 for a 2 egg omelet. My husband however had the banana French toast which was excellent. If not for those potatoes I would have given 4 stars.
