“Food Good, A Bit Pricey, A Little Loud”
Reviewed March 16, 2014

This was a nice dinner in a very nice, old building with great interior decor. It's also not a place for flip-flops and t-shirts. They might let you in (maybe) but you'd feel foolish. Most folks were in Key West casual or better, meaning golf shirts and slacks were the base line. So. A tad more upscale than many in Key West. That was nice. So was the service which was prompt, knowledgeable and attentive. The food was excellent and my wife had the best scallops she'd every had...and she eats a LOT of scallops! It got a little loud, which can become a problem if you or companion is soft-spoken. However, it got lot because the place was fool and everyone was having a good time. That's not a bad thing. It's not cheap, though. Both of us had a mixed drink, a glass of wine, a salad, and an entree. It came to $165. Like I said, not cheap. But it was a nice place, with an upscale feel, and good food amid very nice surroundings. One can always find a reason to splurge for at least ONE meal on holiday, yes? Note: Make a reservation.

“Five-star experience”
Reviewed March 11, 2014

We saved Cafe Marquesa for our last night in Key West, after eating at so many great places beforehand; they had hard acts to follow. It was perfect. We were seated immediately at a great table by the window and experienced top-notch service and enjoyed a delectable meal. I had the grilled Florida lobster and shrimp and my husband had the snapper wrapped in phyllo with a roasted tomato broth, both so good. Even our simple starter, an arugula salad, blew us away, with tasty prociutto and smooth burrata. We were impressed at the sizable portions of the salad, since we were splitting it; we each had what looked like a full portion. The place is also beautiful and charming, in one of those fantastic old historic buildings, yet no stuffiness here--a very Key West relaxed vibe. Our experience was so wonderful, we asked for a menu to take with us as a souvenir.

“30 minute rezzy dining delay not right”
Reviewed March 7, 2014

You make a reservation to avoid a wait or worse yet net get a table right? We made a reservation for this restaurant back in November! We arrived at the restaurant at 7:15 for our 7:30 rezzy and were told it would be a short 10-15 minutes until our table was ready......and it was not! Not until 8pm were we taken to our table. Not a good start at all.

To be truthful our service was very good, the food was very good and the wine list was wide and varied. Prices were above average. Overall we gave this restaurant a good rating except for the inexcusable delay we experienced. In my opinion we should have recieved a significant comp for our delay but all we got was a feeble "sorry".

So, if you plan to go to Cafe Marquesa I would makie a strong point of inquiring about their ability or lack of it to meet your reservation time request.

“Disappointing- undercooked fish and rushed service”
Reviewed March 5, 2014 via mobile

This was a disappointing evening. The food was generally better than other similar restaurants in Key West. However, the service is problematic. We were rushed through our meal in an hour including a before dinner drink, appetizer, and main course. We also were served an undercooked fish - flakey on the outside but raw in the middle. The restaurant's response was to re-cook the remaining fish and return it on a separate plate. Not what one would expect from a $32 entree. All in all disappointing. We won't be going back.

“Great evening to a truly classy place”
Reviewed March 5, 2014

We happened to have the luck and honor to get to sit on the porch of the The Marquesa Hotel and the restaurant had the bartender Tim waiting us. It was wonderful place to sit on a not too hot evening, where it was quiet and relaxing. From the drinks all the way to dessert and speciality coffees it was a perfect experience. Tim did a wonderful job and sensing the pace we were looking for and served us well while also give us plenty of time to relax and enjoy the various courses of our dinner. The tea smoked quail was out of this world, along with the crusted wahoo with noodles and veggies, all the way to the key lime torte with fruit. Without a question the highlight to a visit to the Key West!!!
