Review of Sunset Celebration

Everyone on the island flocks to the Sunset Celebration at Mallory Square nightly. It gets very, very crowded with people as the sunset approaches. I was able to take dozens of awesome photos with sailboats right in front of the low-lying sun. It's just a gorgeous sight. There are street entertainers (acrobats, jugglers, singers/musicians, dog acts, even a pig act, etc.), vendors selling light food and drinks, others selling unique handcrafted items (jewelry, woodwork, photo art, etc.). Everything is genuine Key West. Bring singles to tip the performers. It's a very high energy atmosphere. The crowds die down a lot after sunset, but it looks like some vendors and performers stay around for at least a couple of hours after. If you visit Key West, you HAVE to attend the Sunset Celebration, or you miss an important part of the Key West experience.

If you are looking for a nice stroll right around the time when the sun sets, this is a good place. Street artists, musicians, and vendors entertain you. The sky is beautiful. You'll probably have to park quite far away, though, the parking lot is small and fills up fast.
Afterwards, sit outside of one of the many bars and restaurants and enjoy the fresh air. Pricey, but worth it.

Given the right weather conditions the sunset can look really astonishing. Of course that means the place is full of people (when we went there were at least 3 rows along the pier), street artists and tourist shop carts.
The weird thing though is that most people leave as soon as the sun disappears behind the horizon instead of waiting for the beautiful colors all over the sky for the following minutes.
