“Romantic and relaxing”
Reviewed December 16, 2007

We stayed for 4 nights. The rooms were small, but very clean and beautifully and sumptuously decorated, with great attention to detail, such as candles and bubble bath provided. The bathroom was modern, tastefully decorated and fantastic with a jacuzzi for two. There was a separate small area for watching TV or reading. The lighting allowed for a variety of choices, with dimmers in the bedroom and bathroom. All appliances worked (fridge, coffee maker). The landscaping was awesome and luxuriant as well and the owners take great pride in maintaining a service that is friendly and accommodating. They provided us and the couple in the adjacent room with dinner one evening that was elegant and delicious. They are very enthusiastic about their home and the island and it is infectious. A special treat one morning from Kayla was a large bowl (almost) of cafe con leche, and Steve provided transportation for us to and from the airport and let us know about goings-on in town. If you go in December, you'll be treated to a house that is beautifully decorated with lights and colorful gifts.
The location is good in that it is very near two beaches, but not-so-good in that it is far from the arts/restaurants/business district. However, they have bikes you can use or you can easily rent bikes and there are other means of transportation. A word of caution is that you can't see the ocean from your room or from the backyard, as we had thought before we got there, as there is a condo and a high wall across the street that keeps the view concealed.
In all it was a wonderful experience.

Atlantis House is the MOST PERFECT place to stay.... This was our first vaca in 15 years together alone and it will be the most remember able..... We were there for the end of fantasy fest, halloween night and beginning of parrot head convention......

We are one of the awesome parrot heads and my hubby found the atlantis house under bed and breakfasts in Key West and read the reviews and looked at pictures... Wow it's great to look at the pictures and read the reviews, but things may be different... Not at the Atlantis house........ Having a room off the beaten path was the greatest thing... You could go out and then come back and relax outside on the side deck area and still be close to your room door.....

I have recommend the Atlantis place to everyone that I have talked to since I have gotten home from vaca....

It's quiet and relaxing and if you have any questions or wanna chat... Steve and Kayla R the BEST hosts to have........ I give them a A+++++++++++++++++++++++.

This is one great place to stay if you want privacy, peace and quiet. The owners, Steve and Kayla are more than helpful. The room has a very personal touch to it and you never feel that you are renting a place. It feels just like home. I would definately come here again.

The Atlantis House is a beautifully appointed, off-the-beaten path, romantic guest house. The owners, Steve and Kayla, are the great hosts. You should take advantage of their knowledge and recommendations of the Key West area as well as a day out on the water on their boat.

My boyfriend and I stayed in the Master Suite at the Atlantis house August 9-12. It could not have been more perfect. The owners have thought of evey little thing a person could possibly want/need during their stay. The room has tons of commercial free radio channels for all different types of music. We listened to sound scapes the entire time while we slept, ate, chilled in the huge 2 person jacuzzi tub, and relaxed. This is definitely the perfect place to stay for a romantic getaway with your significant other! We had never been to the keys before, so we had alot of questions that the owners were more than willing to answer for us.
The beach is literally across the street. We walked down to the pier a couple of times and just sat on the benches while we enjoyed the breeze and sounds of the ocean. We had our own private entrance and the patio area was surrounded by beautiful trees, flowers, plants. We also loved the gazebo with two chairs and a table so one can sit and talk. They have decorative type lighting around it at night which makes it extra romantic. We could not have asked for more! We will definitely be back!

I was planning to move to south Florida, but not sure where. In looking over the area, I stayed at Atlantis House, where Steve and Kayla were so nice to me that I decided to move to Key West.

The room was so beautiful and so well appointed, that I could have lived there. There were even wine glasses and a cutting board. For a gourmet chef, this was essential.

I ate breakfast on the deck every day, surrounded by flowers and birds singing. I ate dinner, one night, in the gazebo. We had after dinner drinks under the trees one night, with wonderful conversation, until very late.

Atlantis House would be perfectly lovely even without Steve and Kayla, but not nearly so special.

My husband and I just returned from our 7/9-7/12/07 honeymoon stay at Atlantis House in Key West and have nothing but good things to report about the room (we stayed in the smaller Garden Suite), location, amenities, and hosts, Steve and Kayla Kessler.

We drove down from Orlando, so we were happy to see that there was ample room for two guest vehicles in the off-street parking right next to the garden deck/dining area outside of the guest suites. The garden deck was quite beautiful with two cushioned loungers, a separate covered gazebo with a small table and chairs, and two other tables with seating under a tall palm tree complete with the occasional visiting iguana.

The Garden Suite itself, while about half the width of the larger Master Suite next door (we were given a peek at the bigger room and give it a huge thumbs up as well from what we could see) was spotlessly clean, decorated in a cozy, eclectic style that makes you feel immediately at home, and loaded with thoughtful bonus amenities that would have without a doubt cost us extra at a normal hotel: heavy velour robes, bubble bath, candles/matches, chilled champagne, a remote-controlled floor fan, dishes/utensils, fresh flowers from the garden outside, beach towels, water socks, beach chairs, CD player and cable TV, selection of fiction novels and non-fiction books about Key West history and sights to see, two closets, a 6-drawer dresser, and even a bottle of nail polish remover (in case your wedding manicure starts to look a wee bit ragged after a few days of active water sports) and a can of Deep Woods Off mosquito repellent under the bathroom sink that came in VERY handy in the evenings when we chose to dine outside. (If you are a mosquito magnet like me and plan to be out and about after 5 pm during your stay, the insect repellent is a must have on your packing list, even if you are going to spend most of your time on Duval Street. Trust me on this.) There are two bicycles available for guests to use free of charge on a first-come-first-serve basis. We took the bikes out nearly every day (Duval Street is just an 8 minute bike ride from the house and the northern pier on William Street from which most of the water sport tour boats sail is a mere 13 minute ride away) and saved a quite a bit on rental fees and parking.

Steve offers both snorkeling and fishing outings on his private boat, and Kayla is available for massage therapy sessions. Regretfully our stay was too short to take advantage of either of these services, but we *were* treated to a home-cooked seafood dinner out on the garden deck prepared by Steve on the final night of our stay. We were joined by our hosts and the other honeymooning couple next door from Arizona and had a wonderful time dining and chatting with everyone until midnight over a bottle of red wine left over from our wedding reception, LOL.

To address the concerns some of you might have about the privacy of the bathroom facilities--there IS a sliding door that can be closed between the toilet area and the rest of the bathroom (2-person jacuzzi tub, separate shower, vanity table, and sink). The bathroom itself was scrupulously clean and always brightly lit during the day thanks to the skylight in the vaulted ceiling. I'm pretty sure my hubby was taking down notes on the design for our own future bathroom renovations.

We had a great time staying at Atlantis House and would recommend it to anyone looking for a reasonably-priced, conveniently-located and extremely comfortable romantic get-away. You really won't find a better place to hang your sandals and floppy straw hat in Key West.

  • Liked — Privacy, convenient location, and amenities
  • Disliked — No wireless Internet access...but that was just a minor gripe!
