Alexander's is by far the most outstanding guesthouse in Key West. From the moment you walk in the gate, you're greeted with a professional staff (I know I can't list all, but Laura, Mike, Bruce and Phillipe)! From the daily breakfast (now with cooked to order eggs) to cocktails in the evening (Bruce/Mike - were our bartenders) everything was just what the doctor ordered.

This was our 10th visit to Alex G House, we constantly meet new people and have never had a bad visit.

Would I recommend to a friend? Absolutely! But don't recommend to everyone - I want it to be available when i go back!

I think this is the classiest place to stay in Key West - in an attractive leafy street with good local cafes and services, away from the tacky hell of Duval Street (but easy to walk to for nightlife!). The guesthouse is immaculate and absolutely gorgeous. The pool area is like a peaceful and sunny oasis and is simply stunning. There are sun decks to soak up some rays, or lay by the pool and chat to guests. It feels like everyone staying is part of a welcoming family. Don't come here if you want solitude and don't want to talk to anyone! Staff are welcoming, friendly and super-helpful. Our room (2) was bright, white, clean and roomy. Lots of windows with great views. Not enough storage space in the bathroom though. Wifi everywhere, we even called home on the webcam from the poolside on Skype! The pool and hot tub are great, and the poolside bar is the place to be from 4.30pm when they serve free drinks for an hour, then it's half price for the next hour. Everyone comes down and it's very sociable. Mostly gay men when we stayed, but some lesbian couples and a straight couple. Very easy going and attitude free, so everyone is made equally welcome. Parking is a bit of a hassle, you have to find a space on the street which isn't for residents and it's not obvious which spaces are which. Our top tips: 7 Fish good for dinner and Help Yourself organic cafe good for lunch and both close by. Or you can order takeout and eat by the pool - it's encouraged by the staff. Breakfast is not hugely extensive but includes home baked goods and healthy options, not always the case in America we've found. Coffee always available by poolside. We left feeling relaxed and reinvigorated - what more can you ask for?

We absolutely loved our stay! We were the only straight couple at the resort and probably knew that when we booked. We read only good things about Alexander's Guest House and only received the great things! The service was attentive and the property is beautiful. Will recommend to friends. Will recommend to select family members (to only those who can really appreciate fine things in life). We stayed in the top room and it was difficult to walk around because the ceiling was slanted.

Well, where to start. It was my first trip to Key West. My partners 7th.
The instant our bags were whisked away from our hands on the porch I knew we were in for a great time. I knew right then and there this was going to be a great place to stay.
Everything is clean, neat, and most important comfortable. The staff was ready to help us with our every need, be it from an extra pillow, more scrambled eggs (made fresh), a reservation, or even calling a taxi, we found everyone to be helpful and happy to assist. Our special Valentine's day presents and flowers that we got each other were right where they should have been when we walked in the door to our room.
The rooms are very comfortable, lot's of space. The pool is just right for floating away all that stress we get up North. We found everything within walking distance. Great restaurants and Duval street just down the block a bit.
It seems that a lot of the guests return every year at the same time. It was like walking into a reunion. Next year we will be part of that reunion.
Needless to say we booked our trip for next year before we even left.
Do yourself a favor and stay at Alexander's!

We have just returned from a 2 week stay at Alexanders we will definately be staying there on our next trip to Key West. From the day we arrived until the day we (reluctantly) left we found incredible staff , nothing was ever too much trouble and they did everything they could to ensure our stay was a memorable one. Our room (no 5 ) was beautiful and of an incredibly high standard. We loved every moment we spent at Alexanders.

We just returned from a five-night stay at Alexander's Guest House. I chose this place after reading the glowing reviews here, and I went with high expectations. Not only was I not disappointed, but it exceeded my expectations. The decor was lovely and very comfortable and inviting. A lot of credit has to be given to the entire staff. They were obviously dedicated, hard-working, and very efficient while at the same time creating a tranquil and warm presence. Just nothing seemed to be too much trouble for them, and they made you feel like an invited guest in their home. It just felt good to be there, so much so that our first full day in Key West we chose to relax and unwind on the property rather than go out and see the town.

As others have said, the other guests were a mostly friendly bunch, with lots of opportunity for socializing at happy hour at the Pink Monkey, and the beautifully laid-out breakfast and, of course, in the great hot tub. We got to meet lots of nice people (Hi Dallas guys!) from all walks of life.

It was hard to find anything to complain about, but the one thing that we didn't like was the bed. It felt very hard to us, as we are used to a very cushy bed. Maybe it was just our room (rm. 6). Our room was small but nice, small bathroom, but a great porch to enjoy the morning sun. We were there with several other family members so we got to see several different rooms. If you have any questions on specific rooms or anything, you can PM me.

I truly can't imagine a nicer place to stay in Key West than Alexander's Guest House!

Trip Advisor is how I discovered this gem and it certainly lives up to all the positive comments (all of which encouraged me to make a reservation.) So, glad we did!

Spent five nights (Jan. 16-21, 2009) at this 'great' guesthouse - it was my first visit to Key West and Alexander's was a welcomed first impression to the island.

Alexander's is convenient walking distance to the historical sites of the 'old town' area, but if you want to rent a bike it can be conveniently delivered during your stay. We did not miss the hassles of renting (or parking) a car. I suppose if we had wanted the front desk would have accommodated us with that too.

I could ramble on, but mostly, what I would like to reiterate is the cleanliness of the property and the friendliness of not only the staff, but also the other 'guests' during our stay - some of whom I did not have a chance to say 'goodbye' (hello SuzySunshine !) We met people - both gay and straight - from all over the world (Germany, France, Latvia, even Iowa and Pennsylvania ;-) while staying at Alexander's - can't think of another place I've ever stayed where it was so easy to get to know others - other than maybe my freshman dorm at college. Come to think of it - this would be a great place for a reunion!

Thanks again Laura, Michael, Philippe, Raul and Fred!

  • Liked — Location and Friendliness of the Staff
  • Disliked — Key West electrical grid - the town power blacked out twice (wasn't even bad weather.)
