Although this hotel was built in 1996, it is amazingly well-kept and just the kind of accommodation we wanted while visiting Key West.
We had a 2 bedroom lock out unit, overlooking the pool and dock area. Very nice view. (An iguana, we named Kelly, lounged on the arbor under our kitchen window, daily . . . very cool) The view was quite lovely, even when the cruise ships were in port. (Don't worry, the cruise ships must leave port prior to sunset, so you can enjoy the Key West sunset each evening.)
To begin, Sahara completed a flawless check in, while the Concierge Laurie Jane provided information and coupons and welcomed us to a breakfast the next morning, to learn of tours and options, to enhance our visit.
The rooms were quite spacious, with a LOT of storage, and comfortable beds. Although the foam mattress on the queen sofa bed was too firm for our 3rd couple, a simple phone call to the main desk provided 2 sets of foam pads (and additional pillows & towels) to make each couple comfortable for the week.
We cannot thank Sahara and Laurie Jane enough, for their pleasant, professional, and friendly service throughout the week! They always asked how we were enjoying our stay, and truly meant it. (While they're together - bring up Cuban vs. Jamaican coffee - enjoy the banter). Thank you to the friendly maintenance/service staff for pleasantly delivering requested items.
Per recommendations from all friends/relatives, we returned the car to the airport, and walked the rest of the week. Although we participated in many activities and enjoyed venues and restaurants ALL OVER Key West, the longest walk we had from Hyatt Sunset Harbor was 30 minutes. (It was JUST FINE - - - needed to walk off the calories anyway.)
The pool was refreshing and well maintained, with the clean towel bin outside the office's back door. An outdoor bathroom, located on the back side of the office was welcome, alleviating trips back to our 3rd floor room. Nice hot tub, too. (New deck furniture arrived on Friday - nice comfortable chairs, umbrellas, and tables spiffed up the pool area.)
We were completely satisfied with our stay at Hyatt Sunset Bay. Our party was not looking for activities AT the resort. We came to experience Key West . . . to walk, sweat, and enjoy Florida’s southernmost subtropical paradise . . . the history, beauty, food, and architecture that is closer to Cuba, than to a Walmart.
