Thanks for coming and I am so glad you enjoyed all the regular and irregular aspects of our resort. It's hard to beat feeding Galapagos-sized tortoises, swimming in a pool surrounded by palm trees and hammocks and enjoying a great fresh seafood meal ... all in one place. I hope you can come back again.

We are locals and have been coming to the pool here for about 4 years, at least once a week because they advertise as "local friendly". We always spend a great amount of money on drinks and food and tip the bartenders well. On Friday, August 9, our children were jumping in the pool, as they have every time we go. The "owner", Tony, confronted my husband and I telling us not to have our children jump into the pool. He asked us if we were guests of the hotel and we told him "no, that we were locals and have been coming to the pool for years". He then asked us if we had a membership card and that we needed a membership card and there were rules we needed to abide by, as if we were breaking a bunch of rules for our children jumping into the pool. We told our kids not to jump in anymore, but our nephew jumped in and he proceeded to come back to us with an attitude and say "I asked for your children to not jump in the pool". My brother-in-law said he was sorry and that he hadn't relayed the message to his children. Then another kid, that wasn't with us, jumped in and Tony again came over to us. After the third time of him coming over with an attitude when it wasn't even our child, we decided to leave. We told him he has lost our business and that we will NEVER be back because of the way he treated us. He said he "didn't care" if he lost our business. I understand it's a liability thing, but his attitude was uncalled for. And if they are so worried about liability and lawsuits, how about when my pregnant sister fell in their dining area coming from the bathroom and bruised up her knee and NO one asked her if she was okay or came to her aid?
If this is how they treat the locals, imagine how they treat tourists/guests?

We will put your children's safety before our income every time. Our Pool Safety Rules are clearly posted at the pool. Those rules apply whether you are a hotel guest, a local guest, an adult or a child. It's surprising to me that our Pool Safety Rules were new to you. As you say, you have been enjoying pool for years. Most importantly, our General Manager's primary intent is not to protect the hotel from liability (we have insurance) but to protect your children from injuring themselves. You were repeatedly asked to stop the kids jumping in. You didn't.

I am glad we were able to help you. Thanks for staying with us and taking the time to write about your experience. We are a family owned hotel. Unlike big chain hotels, we can't advertise all over the world so Tripadvisor reviews make a big difference. I will show the Front Desk staff who helped you this nice review.

I enjoyed our recent stay at Ibis Bay Resort. I felt the prices were fair and the staff was very friendly. My only complaint is we paid for an "upgraded" room which put us near the dumpsters! The smell was wretched and it kept us from enjoying our hammock and outdoor area which we got the upgraded room for. I wish I had saved the $145 for an upgrade! Other than that it was a great stay!

Thanks for choosing Ibis Bay and complimenting the resort and the service. Next time you come I will make sure you get a waterfront upgrade. It's not often that the wind causes a problem with the hammock gardens, but once is enough.

The resort is a wonderful complex just outside downtown Key West. We took a taxi each time into town so we could take advantage of the bars! Figure on $4.50 each way per person. The room was very clean, very nicely decorated, and good value (for Key West). The staff are friendly, welcoming, and extremely helpful.

How many hotels get called cute! Thanks, I like it! We are starting a new FREE shuttle bus for our guests at the end of August. It will eliminate cab costs and take all that hassle out of going to the bars downtown. Even if you have a car, one of our scooters or electric cars it's safer for everyone to get back by the shuttle. We are so glad to offer it! Thank you for stay at Ibis Bay and helping us spread the word.

Well, let's just say it's not the best bang for your buck. Currently there's construction going on around the main road- not a big deal getting there, but getting back is a real crap shot with the detours.
The pros were that the pool was decent, nothing fancy but decent enough. The view from bay front was decent. There's some cool animals around there such as tortoises and parrots.
But like I said, getting back and forth for those of us from put of town is a pain. I wouldn't care much if the price were killer, but it's up there.
So... The beds are really uncomfy. They're doubles, not queens and ours sunk right in the middle. The toilet clogged easy and I at first called for a plunger and then went to get one. The guy said he didn't have one and hoped that a toilet brush would do the trick. Luckily it did, but I couldn't help but say really? I own properties and I've had to bang down neighbors doors at 2 am to get things for guests. And speaking of plumbing, their whole system is slow. The shower backed up pretty bad.
For us, staying across from Smather's beach would have been smarter.
Not a good bang for your buck, I think it's run by people with good intentions but without the proper knowledge of how to really make a business efficient.

I read your review and realized that the awkward and frustrating road detours on the way back from downtown were the real complaint. When you talked about Ibis Bay, you liked it.
First of all, thank you for choosing Ibis Bay. To help our guests now and in the future we are starting a free downtown shuttle service to eliminate the cost and frustration caused by the temporary road work. Its a permanent addition. We definitely don't want our guests to drive after being partying downtown. Thanks for raising the issue and helping inform me of what is needed.
BTW, our Maintenance Dept. is fully equipped, I will speak to them about your review.

This was a nice hotel, well kept and clean, with a lot of on site rentals available. (Scooters, jet-skis, bikes, paddle boards, etc.) The Stone Crab restaurant was located right next to the pool, which was nice for a nightcap poolside. They offer a movie in the pool on Wednesday nights, which is a cool idea. This was a good value hotel/resort for Key West, but it is a good 2.5 miles from the action, too far to walk, and parking can add up quickly. Very nice hotel.

Thank you for staying with us on the beach side. It is hard to beat walking out the slider doors onto the sand. About getting to downtown. To eliminate the cost of cabs, parking and late night driving, we are starting a downtown shuttle bus service at the end of August. Guests comments (like yours) are the best way for me to learn what we need to improve. The shuttle bus is an excellent example of that. Please come back again soon.

The staff are all Key West locals who love the island and want our guests to enjoy their stay. We have exclusive attractions like our poolside Dive-In Movies every Wednesday night on a 20ft screen by the pool, plus Nightboarding nightime LED-lit paddleboarding and kayaking! Wildlife abounds on our grounds including huge tortoises, lots of large colorful parrots, local iguanas (don't touch!) and our namesake, the very pretty ibis birds. In the mood for some fun? Ask our Fun Desk concierge about our jet ski, scooter and electric car rentals on site plus paddle board, kayaks and kiteboard rentals on the beach. They can also recommend off-site activities, restaurants, tours and local attractions. We have 80 hammocks for lazing about, and an amazing restaurant called The Stoned Crab that has two of its very own fishing boats delivering fresh crab, shrimp, lobster and fish every day!
