Ibis Bay Beach Resort
Ranked #44 of 51 Hotels in Key West
Reviewed February 21, 2012

We've stayed here for 3 nights. First night we were waked at 5:30 AM by a truck and parrots (right across room 501 to 505 'ish). I complained about it and got 2 free drinks (wow! :( ) and told them the parrots think it's sleepy time when there is a blanked over the cage (even when it's sunny). As expected they didn't do it. Second night there was less noise. Third night is yet to come. The bed itself is pretty good! Flatscreen TV is also there. Only downsize is there is no refregirator and a small shower (it's good though!). Pool is very nice and you can rent bikes at the reception (18 dollars a day and any extra day 10 dollars). It's a bit dangerous to ride a bike here but it's ok. The parking prices for cars are REALLY expensive that's why I mentioned there are bikes available.

Room Tip: Do not choose (if there's room) for rooms 501 till 505 'ish

Well- I did read reviews.. too late, but it couldn't be that bad.. WRONG!!! Asked for a renovated room.. It must of been renovated 15 years ago. Couldn't get in shower w/o closing the bathroom door..No Fan so very hot!! Sheets so thin you could rip them, you actually can see through them!! The 100% best part of the place is the restaurant/bar!! The staff was great!! Not much else good to say! No Beach.. Pictures on there web sight are very, very deceiving!!! No closet, dresser, no where to put clothes.. Kept them in suit case!! Air Conditioner was saving grace!! It drowned out the noise of the other rooms!!Plus the construction around the place!! I know the owner is new and he has redone alot of stuff, but he definitely needs to address the rooms.. It by no means should have resort after its name!! would never stay there again!!!

Room Tip: book one some where else!! If we hadn't prepaid through BOOK IT >COM.. we would have moved t...

My husband and I slept in Room 520 for 2 nights. It had a King bed and fresh paint. Clean and nice upon check in. Small but adequate for the price paid. The A/C worked great. The bathroom although small was fine, it had a toilet, a sink and a shower--no frills, no bath-tub, no hair dryer but no problems either. The bed was comfortable if you like a mattress on the firmer side. No problems with it for us. The pillows on the other hand were lousy--we hijacked two from friends staying at the Fairfield Inn then returned them when we left. We did NOT step foot in any of the facilites, although we would have gone to the on site bar if It was open. We tried at 10:45 PM on Saturday night. I couldn't tell you what amenities there were--we were there to see KW. Not terribly far from the downtown area and I thought it was convenient to everything, if you have transportation to get around. In my opinion, I have stayed at the Casa Marina, the Southernmost B&B and several other places in KW so for the price--room 520 was exactly what I expected it to be--a clean room, decent bed to sleep on, and way less than the other places. Did I mention we were there to see KW and not the hotel? From 7 AM to about 11 PM we were out in the thick of things seeing the sights and having a blast--the Ibis was a place to sleep, brush teeth, shower and prep to go again. That was the expectation and that is what we got. The money saved was spent dining out and having a ball! Yes, I would stay here again.

Room Tip: Our room was quiet and comfortable--second floor, no view, no problems.

If you are going all the way to Key West, do yourself a favor and stay some place closer to Duvall St (the "downtown" area). This place has an amazing website that makes it look like a beach front resort. This is by no means a resort and the "beach" was not an accurate description of where we were. Plus, the water smelled horrible. The rooms we got were beyond tiny and hot like an oven (we were there in January). We didn't get wi-fi (advertised on multiple travel sites) in our room and when we complained we were moved to the "waterfront" rooms. The rooms we were moved to were larger but still didn't have a dresser or a closet, the seating consisted of cheap plastic patio furniture and the beds were small and uncomfortable. The bathroom was a little scary. There were holes in the floor where tiling had not been completed and the grout looked like it was 50 years old and in bad need of replacing or strong bleaching.

The food was decent at the restaurant but service was horribly slow. The front desk staff were helpful in moving us and the activities guy was very nice and helpful.

Honestly, we would have left if we hadn't prepaid (with no refunds).

rooms near pool are small-- get upgraded to waterfront room. We were given a room near pool, but,i have a bad knee and could not do stairs. The waterfront rooms are nicer than rooms near pool. People are great. This is a 2 mile or 1 hr walk to duval.

Room Tip: Get waterfront room

This was our first and LAST hotwire experience. Thanks goodness we refused to stay in the first tiny closet sized room we were first given. It overlooked a courtyard of construction with big equipment moving rocks around. We were upgraded to a view of the bay because we freaked out. The room was clean but very sad. The bed felt like a piece of foam. We also always request a King size bed, but were told hotwire only issues queens. The beds however, were regular size pieces of foam.

Pushing a few rocks around in the courtyard is not going to help this place. The location is awful. Parking in key west is VERY expensive and you are not close enough to walk to downtown. We could have found a nicer place on our own closer in. There is no way I would could consider this place a Resort. It's only redeeming feature is the Stone Crab Grill that is attached. The food and service is exceptional. Also don't expect internet service except in the lobby.

Room Tip: We saw two rooms. One was closet sized with a horrible view. The one we ended up with was nice siz...

Wildlife abounds on our grounds including huge tortoises, lots of large colorful parrots, local iguanas (don't touch!) and our namesake, the very pretty ibis birds. In the mood for some fun? Ask our Fun Desk concierge about our jet ski, scooter and electric car rentals on site plus paddle board, kayaks and kiteboard rentals on the beach.
