“Wonderful getaway with personal attention”
Reviewed September 15, 2012

What a perfect spot to get away from it all, relax and just enjoy the enchantment of Key West!
The personal attention was unbelievable - fresh roses in our room every day, great breakfast, happy hour in the evening - what more can you ask for? The house is an absolute jewel, the room was comfortable and always cleaned immaculately (thank you housekeeping), and the location is perfect. Within close range of all the excitement of Duval Street, but on the south end so the nights are peaceful and quiet. Mona and Beth are the best hostesses ever, always greeting us with a smile and willing to help with anything we needed. Also, the grounds are kept so very beautifully you just can't help but relax while sitting in Mona's Vineyard and resting after a long day of touring Key West. Can't wait to come back!!

Room Tip: Just want to add fitness center and room service do not apply here, not that there was a negative to...

Not having been to Key West in over 30 years, I was hoping to find some of the old Key West that I had heard was disappearing. While the island has certainly changed, I found some of that old feeling that I was searching for in this guest house that was built in 1885. What a beautiful property on the opposite end of Duval street from the overly touristy area of town (in my opinion)! For those who appreciate old world charm and friendliness, this place can't be beat. The staff treats you like family--from the nice breakfast offerings which can be enjoyed in the garden area to making sure that your stay is as pleasant as possible. Our room was large, clean, quiet and comfortable with an ice cold a/c that was a relief from the August heat. Mini fridge and micro in the room. The help yourself wine available in the office was a nice touch. We only used the oversized hot tub once (definitely would be more enjoyable in cooler months) but we took advantage of the opportunity to swim at the pool (and tiki bar) at the sister hotel across the street. We loved this place and look forward to returning.

Mona, Bobbi, and Beth really down to earth people. Make you feel welcomed and appreciated. Nice place with great yard, beautiful scenery, great breakfast, and most of all you are at the southern most point. Most of their guests return every year and have for years. So book in plenty of time. They also do not charge extra to park which is a big deal in key west. Thanks Mona Bobbi and Beth. Oh and they have wine for their guests daily. My mom really enjoyed that.

This guest house is a gem. Tucked away at the quiet end of Duval St., surrounded by lush, colourful foliage, it has become a home away from home for me and my family (2 adults, 1 thirteen yr old). We have stayed here three times now and each time it feels like "coming home". The house is something out of another century - very romantic and charming. Our room (no. 2) is painted soothing colours, has two lovely beds (complete with whimsical netting around each). It also has a great kitchen, fully equippped. The bathroom is small but totally functional.
The best part of this guest house is Mona and her staff - they are the best! So accommodating and helpful. They make everything easy. I love the breakfast that's provided every mornning - toast, sausage, hash browns, cereal, waffles, bagles, eggs, lots of fruit, coffee, water, etc. Oh, and fresh baked cakes and pastries! There are lovely tables and chairs set up on the wrap-around veranda, as well in the beautiful gardens, where you can enjoy your breakfast and enjoy being in a tropical paradise. And, in the evenings, Mona puts out wine for her guests to enjoy during happy hour. It doesn't get any better than this!

Room Tip: Room No. 2 is our favourite.

I really like this inn. it's at the end of duval, so it's away from the crazy nightlife, but it's right next to the small beach and the southernmost point buoy. the staff is super nice and the room we stayed in (all the way in the back on the first floor) was very relaxing and spacious. we had a king bed which wasn't totally comfortable, but was ok. our toilet overflowed the first night but they fixed it right away and cleaned the floor up completely. another perk is the pool at the southernmost hotel across the street. same company, so we went over there to swim and it was really nice. they have free wifi there, too.

they offer free wifi but it doesn't reach the back rooms. there is supposed to be a separate code for that area but the woman working there while we were there didn't know it.

breakfast is just ok. nothing was fresh except the hardboiled eggs (overcooked), bananas and oranges. it was muffins (which might have been fresh but were not very good), bagels, frozen waffles, canned peaches and prunes, cereal, milk, bottled oj and cranberry juice. when you have such an bounty of fresh fruit available, i would think that an inn would take advantage of that.

despite the disappointing breakfast, i would stay here again just for the peace & quiet and friendly people.

Our cousins reunion has been coming to Key West and staying at Mona's Southernmost Point Guest House for six years over the past 11 years. The accommodations, ambiance, decor and amenities are excellent and exceed expectations for a charming, old-world historic home! It has all the fine touches and attention to details one could anticipate! The rooms can be made as cold as you can stand and quiet as you need them to be! The soaking pool was wonderful and accommodated 14 of us comfortably! We grilled under the grape arbor some evenings and all the equipment and tools and implements, coolers and ice we needed was provided! The breakfast was varied and substantial! Duval street and the other colorful touristy sights, scenes and venues were closeby. The Concierge team of Beth and Bobbie were unparalleled in their gracious attentiveness! The owner, Mona, is a star! The location is close to everything important and essential and a short ride to the airport when we reluctantly have to return home.

Room Tip: Room number 5 is my favorite -- I've stayed in or seen all the rooms and they are each unique! A...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Welcome to the southernmost guest house in the United States. At our Key West guest house, we offer southernmost hospitality, and since the late 1800s, we’ve gone to great lengths to make stays here an absolute pleasure. In fact, in 1894, when Cuban cigar-maker Eduardo H. Gato realized the handsome, rambling Victorian home he had built was not getting the right sun exposure on his favorite porches, he moved the house across the street! He had the huge structure rolled across the street on logs pulled by mules and he rotated the house to create the most favorable mix of sun and shade. ... more   less
