The staff is really nice and courteous but essentially are just paid employees who do not have any control in assigning rooms or making any important decisions. I don't really see this property as a bed and breakfast in a classic sense, run by mom and pop but more of a regular motel probably controlled by absentee owners.
Had a booking with specific room reserved and were last minute thrown in a completely different room which was extremely average for the price we were paying and during the stay they never tried to rectify this concern even after repeated requests. They blamed everyone under the sun including, internet, travel portals (through which we booked), but don't mind continuing their relation with those websites which bring them business.
No sitting area, no view as promised during the booking.Big -ve.
During the day time the room is pretty dark because of its design and ironically pretty much lit during the night due to the exposed window pane on top of the door which cannot be covered..Go figure.lol. .
Breakfast is pretty standard and average and nothing to brag about.
This property does not enhance your experience in Key West in any way I can think of. Go for a real Bed and Breakfast or stay in Brand Hotel/Resort if you do not like being surprised..in a bad way.

Room Tip: Look for a real B&B for the right experience or stick to a Branded Hotel/Resort.

From the minute I called from the Key West airport concerned because the desk closes at 7 p.m. and it was taking forever to get our luggage, and CIndy answered with a cheery "no worry I'm here..you are in Key West now, relax",... our vacation stay at this B & B was perfect. Our room 7 was large, clean and the air conditioning worked great. On the first morning when we came down to breakfast I asked if it was possible to have some extra hangers. When we came back from our first walk.... there they were on the sofa..When we returned from an activity with salt water soaked beach towels, I just mentioned to Janie if it was possible to put them in the pool towel bin... and before I could move, she was up from the desk had the towels out of my hands, and they were delivered to my room freshly laundered the next day. Oh and by the way, don't waste space in your luggage toting towels for the beach there is a basket at the bottom of the stairs and you are welcome to use them for your beach time. On the day we rented a car, Janie provided beach chairs if we decided to stop at one of the state beaches. The inn is located on Truman street so be prepared to walk. It is seven blocks to Duval, but after a couple of days we had found shortcuts to the waterfront. After all that walking I got a blister. When we got back to the Inn, a simple "do you by any chance have a bandaid" and CIndy provided a bandaid with an offer of a complete first aid kit. We enjoyed breakfast every morning...a fresh waffle which we would split..fresh fruit, bagels, juice and a variety of cereals should make anyone happy, especially when it is served by one of the cheerful, smiling staff. I cannot say enough about Cindy, Janie, and Anna who were joined by the new employee Lauren during our stay...our every request was met with a smile, every time we left or come in we were greeted with a smile and a hello. During our week our room was kept clean and tidy and when Anna noticed my husband's metal detector she gave him tips on the best places to use it. Cindy's recomendations for dinner and entertainment shows were the best. All in all, we are making plans to return as soon as possible to this wonderful B & B.

Room Tip: If you prefer rooms with access to the upstairs shared balconey, choose Rooms 7, 8, or 9

Came to Key West for a group birthday party and most of the crew was staying at the Marriott. I prefer to stay closer to Duval St. and La Pensione is perfectly located within walking distance to everything. The staff at La Pensione is nothing short of amazing. Ask and ye shall receive. They really do go the distance to make you feel welcomed and valued. We stayed in Room #7 which was lovely and blissfully cool on a extremely hot weekend. The shared veranda was a great place to sit, relax and watch the world go by. We rented our bikes from the hotel directly and biked everywhere all weekend... the best way to see the island.

Having spent a lot of time in this part of town, I brought along earplugs since noise is unavoidable in Old Town. I suggest them no matter which room you rent. There will be noise. As for the breakfast, it was basic, but enough to satisfy: bagels, english muffins, fresh fruit, cereal, hard boiled eggs and homemade waffles. Don't miss the waffles. I didn't expect much more than that considering we weren't staying at the Ritz. Besides, swapping stories and chatting with other guests was really the highlight of breakfast. It's really makes for a warm and personal experience.

I would definitely stay here again. Thanks to La Pensione for a wonderful weekend!

What a nice B&B! Good experience. We did not feel confined as one can at a hotel. Access to Duval Street and other attractions was an easy walk. The car stayed on the driveway. The house is located on Truman which is a main road into downtown so in the morning it was a bit noisy. We knew this when making the reservation. Cindy the homes manager greets everyone with a smiling face and happy disposition every morning. This is great for someone like me who does not talk until coffee. We plan to stay here again next time we visit.

Room Tip: Maybe request a room in the back away from the road if you like to sleep late. But, why? Get up and...

This b&b exceeded our expectations. We had a wonderful welcome to this pretty property from Cindy and Anna who went out of their way to ensure we had everything we needed. Our room (no 8) was lovely with excellent air con, shower and comfortable bed. It opened onto a shared verandah which was great for sitting out with a cool drink. They provide coolers and an ice machine for use on the property or at the beach etc - a real benefit! The small pool and deck was great at the end of a day of walking or cycling (they have bikes for hire). The breakfast was perfectly adequate with good coffee, juice, cereals, breads, eggs and waffles. Complimentary wifi was an added bonus as was the complimentary parking - we didn't move our car for the 3 days we were there. We will definitely return.

First thing to mention is that bed and breakfast is not the same as a European/British breakfast where you would have a large choice of hot options, here it was poor, cereal in little boxes, bread and fruit, and of course the waffles.
The room was ok but it was quite light and noisy at night so we hung towels over the windows each night. The bed was made each day but that was all, the bathroom wasn't touched at all in our 3 nights there which was disappointing for the price.
The owner seemed to have friends staying and they all seemed to be constantly sat around the only table by the pool, day and night for the time we were there which felt a bit uncomfortable.
All in all a big disappointment and bad value for money, there was no charm whatsoever.

We just got back from our honeymoon in Key West. La Pensione was recommended by a good friend who lives there, and her recommendation was spot-on for what we wanted in a B&B. Near plenty of activities (we walked almost everywhere), but far enough away from it all to relax and enjoy paradise. We loved the staff from the moment we met them--all very helpful, patient (we had a lot of questions) and fun to hang out with! Cindi placed us in room #7, which was on the second floor near the back. Great room with plenty of space to spread out and relax on the rainy days we enjoyed from the balcony just outside our room. Quiet, too. Truman Avenue is a bit noisy, but it calms down at night, so no complaints there. Breakfast was yummy, bikes were a blast (I highly recommend seeing Key West on a bike) and we didn't want to leave! Thanks Cindi, Monica, Janie and Anna for making the Giles' honeymoon one to remember with your amazing service and your hospitality. We love you guys!

Room Tip: We loved room #7. Overlooks the pool and has easy access to a large wraparound second floor porch/ba...
