Booked last minute with Chelsea house and got a great rate of $99.00 plus taxes for 2 nights. Having left our previous hotel because of the dirt of the place we were delighted with this. The room was an excellent size with two queen beds, large TV, fridge and nice size bathroom. There was also a table and two chairs outside the room, not quite a patio area but nice touch all the same. The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was ok but a little boring. The pool area was well kept and very relaxing. The location was very convenient, close to Duval but not too close. I would definitely return to the Chelsea house.

First time to Key West. Didn't know where to stay. Tried to do as much research ahead of time. Read great reviews on Chelsea House. After arriving at the "hotel", which our family later renamed as the "oldest, scariest house on the island,” I kept wondering if we were at the same place that was listed in the reviews. It was so run down. It didn’t look anything like what was shown on the website. How could people make return visits to this place? I love how they list that the place was ideal for weddings. I can't even imagine getting married in this tiny dump. Our room was so dirty. The bathroom was so small that the sink was in the bedroom. I accidentally spilled some water on the wood floor after using the sink and I used a towel to wipe it up. The towel was black from dirt. The wood floor was beyond dirty. The bed was as hard as a rock. No blanket on the bed. The security lights were shining into the windows all night long. We woke up to dead cockroaches on the floor. We were told that there was a rap around porch outside our room. They failed to mention was that it was a public porch and we woke up to people having their coffee outside our bedroom window. The room faced the main street and there was traffic all night long. The breakfast involved stale rolls and weak coffee. We fortunately only had to endure one evening here. Loved Key West, but would never stay here again.

We had reservations at a North end hotel for 4 nights and the Chelsea House 3 night starting on New Years Day of 06. After one night in the hotel with kids screaming, diving into 3 ft. of water head first, parents ignoring them or worse teaching them to dive into the pool posted NO DIVING, jets flying so low over our heads and the nearest big beach was unfit due to young people sleeping on the beach with NO working bathrooms. Long story short, we stopped in at Chelsea H. the second evening in K.W. to see if we could check in early and a wonderful girl named Amy upgraded our room to a full kitchen, private balcony so we wouldn't have to change rooms. It came with a kitty named Evil. If you didn't want her to visit she would know. The only complaint I could make is I agree that more fresh fruit and cereal would be welcome. Bananas, grapefruit, grapes. More than just apples. We hope to stay there for a full week next year.

On our first trip to Key West, we stayed out on Highway #1 at a hotel - we had to take a cab or bus into town once or twice a day. This year we decided we would stay as close to Duval as we could and The Red Rooster Inn was available. I had trouble making reservations on the website, and called - they were very helpful. Once we arrived, we found the staff even more friendly and helpful. I loved the little refridgerator, which we stocked with water and beer from nearby CVS, and with leftovers from some very fine restaurants (if you ask, they will let you use their microwave to heat things up). Our room was made up everyday before 11am, while we enjoyed breakfast and the deck above the pool. The convenience of the location and the wonderful service make this our first choice for next years trip to Key West!

We stayed two nights at the Chelsea House and found it very comfortable. At first glance, the room appeared quite small but after being in there for a few minutes it became apparent that the coziness was the attraction. Our bathroom opened up onto a small section of the deck that while not completely private was very romantic. The bed was comfortable and the pool was refreshing. The breakfast was full of breads but you can't please everyone - and for the record, I thought that the coffee was quite good, and I like strong coffee. Sitting around the pool at breakfast felt like being in a European hostel.

Just got back from a 2 day stay at the Chelsea House.
On the plus side; cozy and clean, fairly close to Duval street and other attractions.
Negatives; Our little room opened right up to the breakfast/patio area. If we opened our curtain to look outside about 20 people near the pool and patio would look right back at us. For the price I would've expected a room a little less exposed to the public.
Overall good experience would stay there again
