“Far from everything and old.”
Reviewed October 22, 2013

I have read that they are refurbishing this place. Well, good.

I knew that it would be a little dated and far away because we found this place to be much cheaper than elsewhere (thanks hotwire.com!).

The windows don't open and the way the place is constructed means you can't see anything out of them anyway. It's a crash pad, no more.

Staff disinterested.

Good points: close to shops and supermarkets.
Bad points: an hour to walk to what I would call Key West; you need to drive in, or call a cab, as it is too hot to walk that far.

Let me preface this review with the fact that, when we go to the Bayside, they gave us a suite with two double beds versus the king we had reserved and in correcting the error, put us in the prototype room for their renovation ... so there was only one room like this but in theory the others were to follow. The room was very nicely updated from the other we saw. As it was a suite, there was a large kitchen with dark cabinetry, granite counters, stainless appliances .. the same updates people want when shopping for homes on HGTV. The bathroom was similarly updated. The suite had a stacked washer/dryer that was very helpful. The staff were friendly and helpful. Our only disappointment was the continental breakfast which had no protein (a hard boiled egg would be nice for those avoiding carbohydrates) but that seems to be pretty common. Great view of the Gulf side of the key from our balcony. The pool and hot tub were very well maintained and the jets strong ... the pool surroundings were very nice as well with a "keys" feeling. The whole hotel had been freshly painted. The marquis stated "formerly Travelodge" so I'm thinking Bayside has significantly upgraded the property from it's former host.

Room Tip: Hopefully they will have more rooms updated to the level of ours in the near future.

The King Suite was more like an apartment. Full size kitchen. Great view, comfy bed. Pool was great they will also supply large beach towels you can take to the pool or beach. It was very nice to eat breakfast on our balcony watching the water :)

Arrived to not customer friendly receptionist preferred to talk to other employees, total lack of local knowledge, no idea about trolley bus to key west, felt as tho we were an inconvenience.Arrived at room to find paint footprints outside door, inside doesn't resemble photos on internet.Shower didn't work had to get maintenance who obviously new that shower didn't work ,asked how long we were staying said he would fix it when we had gone.
Kitchen poorly equipped no forks but 10spoons 3 glasses for four people, and lots of little bugs.Having read other reviews we went with an open mind but agree with some avoid this hotel expensive rubbish.

We got a wonderful room with access to private beach, complete with hammocks hanging between the palm trees. The only thing which was missing in the room was a closet, so we kept everything in the suitcase.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with patio on the beach

Although it supposedly have WiFi, you would be lucky to get connected. There is only one ice maker on the first floor by the elevator for the entire guests. Beds need new mattresses so that you can sleep comfortably. The property should be torn down and build a new one.
