“Very nice surprise”
Reviewed August 7, 2013

We booked this hotel last minute on our way to Key West, wanting just to sleep overnight somewhere. When we saw what we got for that price, we immediately booked another night. Amazing suite, nice view, rooms are very clean, nice furniture, great kitchen facilities and even washer and dryer in the room. We were so happy to have chosen this hotel. Publix supermarket is about 0.5 miles away. Duval Street and Marina are about 10 mins drive from the hotel. Breakfast included, nothing too fancy, but enough to kill the morning hunger. Very positive experience!

Room Tip: Ask for a bay view room

Stayed there 2 nights-rented 2 bedroom suite-kitchen area gross-dirty spoons and dishes-way out of way -we had no car. need taxi-cost $20-to go anywhere. Construction across street-cant walk anywhere- no sidewalks-sour milk in free breakfast-so many people in breakfast area could not get access to food-not enough parking when we finally rented a car-stay away from thisw place

Room Tip: don't go there

Our 4th and last night there (Friday Night) I had to call the front desk to get the police to come remove the fighting drunk couple who decided at midnight to fight it out and scream profanities outside my door. I learned some new ways to string together curse words! The police did come and about 30 minutes later they took that couple away, but other noisy patrons slammed doors and talked much too loud until the wee hours of the morning. I am not sure if this is normal for Key West or not, since it was my first visit to the fair city. I guess this is what you get with an inexpensive motel. As far as the amenities, there are rooms with a fabulous view but the queen rooms are very small and face the parking lot. When we came in at 4 p.m to freshen up for dinner the second day our room had not been cleaned. The room always smelled like mildew. We booked at the last minute so I happy to find anything.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for a room facing the gulf. The other rooms are tiny and dark.

The amount of road construction in Key West combined with the cost/availability issues of parking in town make a strong argument for staying in town, where you can leave your car at the hotel and go around on foot, or bicycle, etc. But we didn't know this when we arrived at the KW Bayside Inn. We had booked through Booking.com, but our reservation was not found - the helpful person at the front desk explained that this was not the first time a Booking.com reservation had not come through. I had the booking on my phone, and here's where things got better. Not only did Anne-Marie honor it, she upgraded us to a large suite, full kitchen, living room, BR, overlooking the bay for the same price. We loved the room, it was cleaned every day, the breakfasts were fine, and the pool was fun. If I had to offer one suggestion, it would be that the hotel offer an info sheet on where to park in the old town, as a way of acknowledging to guests that (a) this is an issue, and (b) that it cares about our success in dealing with it. So the four-"star" rating is really not about the hotel, rather about the challenges of coping with the logistics of KW. One other suggestion: there was no card or envelope for the maids - we remembered them anyway, but a reminder wouldn't be a bad idea.

We stayed here for Memorial Weekend as a last minute getaway. We live in Florida and have been to Key West plenty of times and are lucky we can head down there on a whim. Did not have much choice as far as places to stay as everything was booked, so we decided to give this place a try. As far as location, if you are ok with driving to get to the hot spots or taking a taxi it is fine. Construction on US 1 limits you to one way so it is not an easy in or out without going out of the way. When we arrived, we were greeted by a friendly gentleman who quickly had a room available for us. We reserved a queen standard room, and that is exactly what we got. While on the small side, it was fine for the 2 of us since it was more of a place to crash out after a long day. To our dismay, the day after check in, we arrived back at our room at 4 pm to change to find that our keys did not work, and looking through the window could see that our room had not been cleaned. We went to the front desk where a different gentleman from when we checked in walked from the back room eating his dinner, or so it appeared. We explained the situation and were given 2 new keys. He told us that rooms were cleaned up to 6 pm, which we thought was odd, but returned to our room to change to be out of the room so it could be cleaned. When we arrived back at 10:30, the room was not cleaned. I walked down to the front desk where the same gentleman from earlier was again in the back room. I told him the story again and he told me to complain to the front desk in the morning. So, after a long day, we had a dirty room, unmade bed and no fresh towels. I did ask forand got towels at least and explained that we were leaving the next day so complaining was not going to get a clean room that night.
The next morning, we packed up our stuff and again headed down to the front desk. This time there was a young girl at the front desk. I explained to her our situation again and that I was instructed to complain by the guy who was on shift the night before who couldn't be bothered to help us out. She apologized and gave me the owner's card. She said she would tell him about our experience and had me fill out a comment card that she said she was also going to give him. After a week, we have heard nothing from this person. Considering the amount of money we paid to stay here for 2 nights, I expected to have a clean room at the very least. With all the choices of places to stay, I will definitely not stay here nor recommend this place either. It does have a lot of potential, just falls short on service in my opinion. Shouldn't have to ask to have a clean room... What am I paying for??
As far as the breakfast, did not appear to be much and was crammed into a very small area. We could not even get close enought to see what was there as people were piled in there acting like they had never eaten before. After seeing that, did not have much desire to eat. Will defintiely look elsewhere next time.
