“Pleasant Stay”
Reviewed October 18, 2008

Very enjoyable and pleasant; first time to spend the night in Key West. We will return. The children enjoyed the swimming pool; we liked how it was close to the main attractions; in walking distance. We enjoyed the breakfast. We intend to stay again.

The only reason we didn't give an "Excellent" is the parking; although quite understandable in such a tightly populated center of Key West.

We decided to extend our stay in Key West by a few days and had to find somewhere to stay (the condo we were in the for first part of our trip was already rented out). We were referred to the Wicker Guesthouse and could not be happier! I think next time, I'm just going to stay at the Wicker Guesthouse! What a cozy, friendly, family-owned and operated B&B. The rooms are generous in size and most are around the great pool and patio area. The breakfasts are perfect and fresh and served on the patio next to the pool. The staff was extremely nice and very helpful! Plus, it's right on Duval so you can stumble home at any hour of the night or day! Another plus- no roosters roaming the property :)

  • Liked — It was very inviting and I was immediately comfortable
  • Disliked — The lighting in our room was quite dim, made it tough to read and put on makeup.

Stayed at Wicker guest house from 8/7 - 8/10 and wish we could have stayed longer.
Had Room 5 right at the front of the B&B, and while some people have complained of noise, we did not have a problem at all (then again we live in NYC and Philly so maybe we're use to noise.)
Room 5 was perfect with the door opening right into the bedroom which consisted of a king size bed, TV, two dressers, a mini fridge, and coffee maker.
The living room was off to the right and had a comfortable love seat, coffee table and a nice TV.
The bathroom was huge since we had the jaccuzzi.
The decor was simple and understated... simple in design and function.

The front porch area directly infront of the room had rockers and a love seat type chair that we used as a meet up location with the other people we were travling with (who also stayed at the Wicker and loved it.)

To the right of the room was the wicker door to the rest of the complex. You use a passcode to unlock it (the handle could be a bit bigger for when you are carrying things) and walk past a couple rooms and through an indoor kitchen area to get to the pool. The pool area was made for lounging. Plenty of both shade and sun depending on what you want. The water was 94F while we were there and still very relaxing. There is also a restroom near there so you don't have to go back to your room after one too many beers at the pool.

The breakfast was typical B&B... bagles, toast, danish, fruit, muffins, toaster french toast, coffee, juice and cereal... They only searve from 8 - 9:30 and since we're late ngihters this was a bit of a problem (but I did manage to wake up, get food and come back to sleep for a little while longer).

As I said, we did not have a problem with the noise from Duvall Street and did not even have a problem with noise from the rooms above ours.

The location is also a plus... it's far enough from the really busy sections of Duval Street so you won't get all the partiers around there, but there are some great shops and smaller places right there as well. (The corner grocery/convenience store at the end of the block if you turn right had great beer prices.)
I would say it's about a 10 minute walk to the 'hot bars.' We actually took a cab to the other end of Duvall and made our way back up just to make things easier.

Ask the front desk folks for recommendations on where to eat, they suggested a great little place off the beaten path but within walking distance for a Lobsterfest meal and it was great - i think it was Cafe de Sole...

While we didn't have a car with us, our friends did. Parking was in the rear of the complex (locked combo gate) and there was enough of it for all.

A couple small negatives - the air conditioner did drip in our room, but it was most likely our fault for leaving it running even when out of the room. We also, we had a slight water pressure problem in our room (but again I heard that is most of Key West) so we didn't bother trying to fill the jacuzzi.

Overall, it was a great place to stay and when we go back to Key West, we are staying there again and I would highly recommend it to friends and family.

My boyfriend and I stayed here July 18-21 2008. We were looking for lodging that we could fit into our budget and came across the Wicker Guesthouse after searching online. They had a special summer deal going on where if you stay for 2 nights you would get the 3rd free. We thought what a deal and decided to try it. The whole deal and mixed reviews made us somewhat nervous about staying here at first . This was my first visit to Key West so I was praying that staying here wouldn't ruin it. But gosh when we arrived we so surprised by how perfect it was. The room (room #14) wasn't huge but it was big enough for the 2 of us with a king size bed, bathroom, fridge and microwave. The air conditioner worked great as well. We had no problems running out of hot water like some the other reviews say. It was an interior room away from Duval St. so we didn't hear a thing during the night while we slept. It was within walking distance of everything so we didn't have to drive except one time during our stay. Luckily for us the parking spot was available right outside the gate of our room so loading and unloading our luggage was a breeze. The staff was very nice, especially Mischa (I'm not sure about the spelling). She helped us our reservations for all the things we wanted to do. The continental breakfast was good too. Just a basic breakfast with bagels, french toast, cereal, pastries but we enjoyed it. All of this and we stayed the 3rd night free! This guest house was perfect for our weekend vacation and I would definitely stay here again!

Stayed here for 7 nights in july 08, what a lovely place, great rooms, private pool area brilliant location. The staff so friendly with lots of advice on things to do in Key West. Our room (17) was great - chilling around the pool was perfect. Next door is a winebar that had a great selection of wines and the best food we had in Key West! All in all a great week.
