Stayed 2/14/11-2/19/11. Everyone is so friendly, lovely, really seem to love their job! Barb made a wonderful breakfast daily. Rooms were adorable, clean and roomy. Very reasonably priced for this time of year. Overlooked Duval St. in more southern end-quieter but still plenty to do. Don't miss the Rum bar downstairs! Overall the best experience and will return!

Room Tip: Call and speak to staff ahead of time-very helpful

I had the pleasure of staying at the Speakeasy in May. I hadn't been there for around 7 years and things had changed. There is now a bar, which is a welcome addition, and I understand new owners are in place. I stayed in room number 2. I had stayed in the same room the last time I was in Key West. What amazed me was that the room looked exactly how it did 7 years ago. No sign of wear. It was extremely clean and the bed was comfortable. Everything about the place was a pleasure. Check in was a breeze and they were so friendly. We had arrived on motorcycles and they were very helpful in finding us appropriate places to park. They even put a quarter in one of the meters out front so that my friend, who arrived on a different day, wouldn't get a ticket while unloading his bike.

The bar was great as well. If you stay at the hotel, you get $1 off the price of a drink. Bahama Bob is an excellent bartender and he makes a great Bloody Mary. They also have a good selection of bottled beer and many other spirits. We really felt like we were among friends our entire stay.

I also enjoyed the resident cat, Bobbi. Amazingly, this was the same cat that was around the last time I stayed. It was nice to be able to give some chin rubs again.

We stayed 3 nights in room 3A in january. We did not quite know what to expect but thought we give it a try. When we arrived, earlier than check in time, we were given a very warm welcome and since our room was already available we could check in immediately.
The room actually looks nicer than on their website and it was extremely clean. The bed was comfy and the shower had a good water pressure.
Breakfast in the bar was nice. There was fresh orange juice, cereales, bagels, fruit and homemade banana bread (yummy!). All was very tasty.
We only experienced a problem on our last night with people sitting outside the bar till 2 in the morning screaming and drinking. But that's not really something the owners of the guesthouse are responsible for.
Everybody working at the guesthouse was extremely friendly and helpful and tried their best to make you feel good.
And by the way, the mojitos of the Speakeasy Bar are by far the best we've ever tasted!

We rented a house about 50' from the Rum Bar. It was the perfect spot to grab a quck drink! Nice patio, friendly staff, cozy bar with a tv. They make great pain killers!

We stayed at the Speakeasy Inn for 4 nights. Barbara, John and Barbie are extremly helpful and perfect hosts. The room was very clean and towels were exchanged every day. The continental breakfast is serving all you are looking for, toast, fresh fruit, cereals, eggs (John's special ;-)), freshly baked cakes etc.
If you like being in the centre of everything, this is the place to be. You can just sit outside on the balcony and enjoy the living on Duval street. If you are looking for a quite place to sleep, you might want to look for a different place to stay.
We enjoyed it very much! Thank you all to make this Key West stay a very pleasant and unforgettable one!

We stopped into the Rum bar (attached to the hotel) by chance and it ended up being my favorite bar in Key West. It's on Duval tucked down near the quieter end of the street. The bar is intimate with seating inside and out and has a great selection of liquors (especially rum of course). Every bartender we met was super friendly and the place is also frequented by locals which makes it more legit in my book. I would highly recommend a shot of Bahama Bob's Root Juice - a homemade concoction by one of their bartenders. Also, they have a few signature drinks (Rum Punch being my favorite) that are fantastic! We didn't stay at the hotel, but after looking at some of the pictures I would definitely want to stay there next time we go to Key West.

Everything about this place deserves 5* - ask for Room 1A if you can. It's a lovely room with a balcony overlooking Duval Street. A little noise one night but worth it for the view of Key West life.

The Speakeasy Inn is a landmark building located in the Boutique and Gallery District of Duval Street where you can shop or walk two blocks to the beach or a short stroll to world-famous Sunset Celebrations in Mallory Square! This landmark's recent renovation has preserved the original 19th century spirit of Old Town Key West. The decor in these spacious and airy suites is tropical and features hand-crafted queen beds and tables made from original 1876 pine recovered from our recent renovation. It has been restored to perfection, just for your pleasure. Each one, two, or three bedroom unit has a feeling of true Key West ambiance. You'll find collectibles taken from treasure hunts on our tropical island paradise and Havana, Cuba. Guests who require special consideration will find "accessible" units available. Amenities include kitchenettes equipped with a mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, private bathrooms, a large screen HD T.V., free WiFi and outdoor seating areas. We also offer a complimentary continental breakfast, free samples of our famous Painkiller cocktail and discounts on drinks at The Rum Bar! The Speakeasy Inn was the home of Raul Vaquez, who was a cigar selector at the Gato cigar factory. Raul's true passion was rum-running between Key West and Cuba. It's in that spirit that our lobby features the Rum Bar open daily from 11am to 12pm (or later). ... more   less
