“Lovely and laid back key west experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2013

This was a beautiful older hotel, a fun place in a great location in Key West. About 6 blks from Duval so walkable to there and other sights but quiet. Good restaurant next door. Lovely spots to hang out by pool, altho may be quite crowded in high season. They create a welcoming, casual vibe that is hard to describe. Make your own drinks happy hour, lots of places to hang out, helpful staff, interesting history. The rooms are small and basic for the price--pretty much of my usual price point (but lodging is quite high there whereever you stay, i think). If you dont mind that or are willing to spend a fair amount more for a larger room, you will love it.

Room Tip: Non deluxe private rooms are small and somple. If you want a larger room you may have to go up to la...

There are no hotel bargains in Key West. Having researched 10 recommended hotels in the Keys, all having rooms priced $225 - 245, we chose 3 to stay in for a few nights each. Eden House is the nicest looking from the outside. Its design is almost stereotypical turn-of-the century Key West. The interior courtyard with its small pool is lovely and seems to promote friendly interaction with the other guests, particularly during the complimentary happy hour. Pool and beach towels, sun screen and bug repellant, and free wi-fi (and a computer) are provided. Location is good: a quiet residential area, 10 minute walk to the action end of Duval.

The negative is the room. A small delux is VERY small and not delux at all. Our tiny bathroom (toilet & shower: small sink is next to the bed) had no working exhaust and no opening window. The bedroom was too small to open a suitcase anywhere but on the bed. The room consisted of the bed, a small sink, an open shelving unit, a noisey air conditioner. The walls are bare whitewash. It felt more like a cell than a room (particularly in comparison to what is available elsewhere for the same price: e.g., Almond Tree Inn).

I should add that I enjoyed my time at Eden House. The staff are friendly and helpful and the entire place has a relaxing vibe to it. 3 points is probably too low, but 4 feels too high, and TripAdvisor doesn't allow a 3.5.

Room Tip: If you want to spend more, the suite we saw looked very nice.

Dear Von Woogle,

We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay at the Eden House. As for the size of your room, our Small Deluxe rooms are just that, small. Deluxe refers to the amenities in the room, queen bed, flat screen tv with DVD player, microwave and refrigerator. The air conditioner should not be noisy at all but they are wall units that have a limited life expectancy and need to be replaced from time to time. Had you let us know during your stay we would have switched it out with a brand new one that same day (we keep back up units for just this reason). Needless to say, after reading your review it was replaced immediately.

The Almond Tree Inn that you mentioned is a very lovely hotel. We do not consider ourselves comparable to them for a few reasons, the most important being location. They are located at the busiest intersection in Old Town Key West. There is a lot of traffic and activity around that area. We are located in a quiet residential area of old town that is more conducive to our relaxed and laid back vibe. We are not a party hotel located in the busy Duval Street area, we are close enough to enjoy it but far enough away to escape it.

Sincerely,
Mike Eden

My husband and I went to KW To marry on New Year. I had problems finding reservations for 4 nights in all the waterfront hotels and Eden happened to be free. We had booked a larger suite with kitchenette so we would be comfortable and it fit us just wonderfully. The room had a terrace overlooking the pool and a screened lanai facing the back. The bed was extremely comfy and the room was clean. We did go a day early than planned and were put in a small room which was super small but had all necessary amenities. The grounds are cozy and pleasurable with lots of peaceful places to lounge around...just loved the front porch. There is happy hour everyday at 4:00. The location is the best! Just far enough from Duval, immersed in a cozy neighborhood. The staff was very pleasant and helpful...we will definitely return. Enjoy!

Room Tip: Upper floor suite!

Was a great experience. This was our 2nd time staying there and both times was better then we could have imagined! The staff is outstanding and friendly. The room are very comfortable. I could stay forever swing on the pouch, swimming in the pool and enjoying the friendly company. Look forward to returning.

Room Tip: Front room upstairs with the porch swing.

I have reluctantly returned home to winter following a perfect week at Eden House. My sister and I, along with two friends, have delighted in annual getaways to Key West for many years. A major factor in our consistent decision to stay at Eden House, is the outstanding effort put forth by the owners and staff to make sure each guest has a wonderful time. The grounds and rooms are meticulously clean. The landscaping continues to provide a lush, restful backdrop that impresses us more with each visit. We took advantage of breakfasts and a light supper delivered from Azur, the retaurant next door (also enjoying the 20% discount for Eden House guests), and appreciate the ability to walk to other excellent restaurants, a bakery, and town. Mike Eden clearly enjoys visiting with his guests, and he is enjoyed by them! Elizabeth continues to manage the hotel with a fresh approach, innovation, and an artful eye. Hotel staff are helpful, friendly, and ready to assist with any question or problem that may arise. Travelers from around the world keep the poolside conversations lively, while the comfortable lounge chairs invite you to curl up with the latest Christopher Moore book, your ipad, or just take a nap. Eden House is not for everyone. Small children may not appreciate all that Eden House has to offer. After 10pm a "quiet time" is requested (and politely enforced) - if you are more inclined to "carry on the party", there are many, many other good choices of hotels in Key West that encourage that level of excitement. Eden House is a welcoming, respectful-of-others respite. I have begun the countdown to my next visit!

We stayed at Eden House for two nights starting 3 January 2013 and really liked it. We had booked one of their private rooms. Room and bed are small but most of the time you want to be outside anyways enjoying Key West or Eden House's wonderful hotel grounds with their well-kept gardens, the pretty pool and the many other nooks you would love to hang out in if you only had more time to spend. Eden House's staff was very friendly, helpful and welcoming as well. The place is definitely a unique place to stay at and we would certainly do so again next time we are in town.

We arrived at this hotel to pass a weekend on the 5th and 6th of January. When we arrived Ryan, at the reception, took the time to show us everything around and showed us the room as well. We were three and took one of the apartments. The place was perfectly cleaned. We slept in the bed and the provided sofa-bed which was really comfortable.

After having settled, it was time for the complimentary 4 to 5 which we took by the pool. Again, the atmosphere, the weather and the staff's friendliness all contributed to make the moment charming. We elected to stay one more day because it was so nice!

The hotel is composed of rooms of different sizes all arranged around a small interior court with a pool and a jacuzzi. The street is very calm and the interior court as well so we had perfect sleeping nights. Our apartment was well-appointed but we didn't use the kitchen part as we were mostly in the restaurants.

The localization was also very good. At a few minutes walks from Duval and action places, it was really just far enough for tranquility while being close enough.

We didn't take breakfast there because they don't serve it. We had breakfast at the neighbor restaurant which was reasonably priced and excellent.

Relax In Old Town Key West! The Eden House's first priority has been to maintain a clean inn, offer a comfortable bed, reasonable rates and have a staff that cares. I have owned and managed the Eden House for 27 years. I like to think that my staff and me do the 'little' things that will make your stay in Key West a memorable one. Key West is notorious for it's nightlife. Whether it is a sunset sail, a snorkel or kayak trip or deep water and flats fishing, the waters of the Florida Keys are like no other.
