The Reach Key West, A Waldorf Astoria Resort

We stayed 5 nights. Room wasn't anything special and it lacked any place to put your clothes aside from a half dozen hangers in a small closet so we ended up having to leave our clothes in our suitcases sprawled out on the floor. The room smelled like bleach but no too too bad. Tv is low quality, Vegas quality. The room service was good and the food was excellent. Great pizza! Food on terrace was really good too. Beach is really nice and in a great location. Staff was top notch too.

The Reach Resort is on a beautiful piece of property on the south side of Key West. It feels secluded and adult even though some families may be around. We stayed April 2 through April 5, 2013 and have been here before. As loyal Hilton Hhonors members we have status that makes us eligible for an upgrade. Upgrades are easier during non peak times than during the high peak time we were there. Here's the short hand version:

The pro's:
Gorgeous location.
Close to Duval Street.
Caribbean without leaving the states.
Courteous staff.

Con's:
During peak times it may be difficult to get upgrades. Hang in there, be nice, and voice your opinion. You may be able to get the upgrade. While it took some doing, Paul worked with me to help make our stay in a much nicer room. The first room was small with many carpet stains, view of a public patio and the street, and a mini fridge without temp controls. This was greatly disappointing. The upgrade was impeccable and more the expectation of a Waldorf property.
This resort may cost more but is a great trade off for the location, service and upgraded rooms.

We recently stayed at The Reach Resort in Key West and had a wonderful time. A great resort in a vey nice and quiet part of Key West. A great beach with a fantastic and courteous staff. The staff was tremendous, especially the pool/beach staff........Ricardo, Patrick and John They were so nice and helpful during our entire trip. It was a pleasure staying at The Reach.

I cannot express how disappointed I am with my recent stay at the Waldorf Reach Resort in Key West. I had booked three nights in a suite at the resort using my Hilton HHonors points. Under the mistaken identity that the Reach property was a more attractive and exclusive property, I booked the Reach instead of the Casa Marina even though at the time of the booking the award points required was twice as much as the "sister property" about 1/4 mile away. I was expecting to be impressed with a beautiful luxury resort, large and immaculate rooms and fantastic amenities.

My experience was anything but impressive. The lobby and resort grounds are hardly worthy of the Waldorf brand. Upon arrival with my family, I was told I had been "upgraded" to a room with a King bed and a pull out bed. Since our children are of young age, I did not object. However, the room we were assigned was a disgrace. The carpets were so filthy my feet were black from walking around barefoot, the couch cushions were grimy and soiled and the air conditioning was practically non-functional. The pull out bed was so uncomfortable we ultimately ended up sleeping as a family of four together in the king bed. Needless to say, there was not much sleep for anyone.

Upon complaint, we were moved to a new room the next day. The a/c in this room was also anemic and struggled to keep the room cool. We were very disappointed in the resort property. The one pool is ridiculously small, the Strip House restaurant had an unpleasant odor and the hostess was rude and unwelcoming. One of the workstations was inoperative in the business center so we we were unable to print our boarding passes and the elevator was inoperative the last day of our stay.

I would recommend avoiding this property. It is hardly what one would expect from the Waldorf brand.

For a Waldorf Astoria resort, this place disappointed. Guy at the front desk was surly and didn't want to bother with our questions about an early departure. Breakfast buffet was highly overpriced and the service was pitiful. Our server didn't even bother to offer water at the table and after bringing coffee he disappeared. Breakfast for 4 was $133 and that was without any extras like alcohol. Save your money and try the Cuban deli a block away. It's well worth it. The resort charges a daily fee of $25 for pool towels (there is no option to bring your own and by week's end you could've purchased multiple towels). Other than offering the towels, don't expect anyone to ask you if you'd like a drink at the pool. You might see a server every 2 hours. All in all, not worth the money.

Just have to share how much we are enjoying our first day at The Reach. We are a family of four and we were unsure where to stay in Key West and I have to say, we are so happy with our choice! Paul, the manager, has gone out of his way to make us feel welcome by introducing himself and making sure we are in the most comfortable room for our family! The view from our room is delightful and the amenities are so appreciated!! We love the beach and the set up of the resort, which is very accommodating to families, as well as couples. If you are looking for a place that is convenient to Duvall St., but quiet, look no further! Thank you to the staff for a great beginning to our stay!

Room Tip: Upgrade to the ocean view boutique suite; so worth it!

We arrived Friday March 29. Easter is Sunday March 31th, the peak of Spring Break and they were doing construction on the pool deck and painting the bathrooms near the pool. Could you have picked a most inconvenient time to take care of these things? I mean really.
The hotel has a 4 star rating with a 2 star feel. From filthy to disgusting, the gum that was stuck on the small table poolside, was the tip of the iceberg. It's a really old hotel, with the Waldorf name and a mistakable 4 star rating. I would NEVER recommend this hotel to anyone. If you want a nice relaxing vacation, do not book this hotel. Staff, very friendly, foreign and helpful.
The Casa Marina, a shared property few blocks away, seemed cleaner and newer. To get there you had to walk through a filthy alley and down a block and you could not access via the beach.
Beach at the Reach, very small, if you could call it a beach.

Room Tip: Read all the Terrible and Poor ratings and find out why they are ranked as such.

I am terribly sorry about the disturbances you've experience during your stay at The Reach Resort. In order to comply with the latest country wide ADA laws we installed permanent pool lifts at both of our properties. While there is no good time to complete any kind of construction at a resort, we do apologize that it interrupted your vacation. Paul Bartush, Front Desk Manager, The Reach Resort
