Casa Marina Key West, A Waldorf Astoria Resort
Ranked #40 of 51 Hotels in Key West
Reviewed March 24, 2009

We decided to stay at the Casa Marina after looking at many hotels in Key West, and overall were quite pleased with the experience.
pros
-Beautiful setup, right on the water
-two pools and beach with easy access to water sports
- very aesthetically pleasing
-perfect proximity to Duval St. and the heart of Key West
cons
-slow service (when we checked in one of the rooms still hadn't been cleaned and a call for tech. support took about 35+ min.)
-expensive (although not as expensive as some of the hotels in Key West, a pop at the hotel shop was nearly four dollars for a 20 oz. bottle, plus the wifi was not free)
- Although thte cleaning service was good, one morning I was told that the cleaning lady couldn't come back later in the day and that I would have to leave my room that moment in order for it to be cleaned.
Overall we were quite happy with the experience

I have to say the hotel was awesome! We stayed for 3 days it was great. The private beach was nice and clean. The food is pricey but worth it! The staff was great parking is tough but leave the car at home and fly in.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Casa Marina. The suite was beautiful and the grounds were truly impressive. Everything was clean, nice and comfortable. The staff was pleasant and helpful. We were checked into the wrong room at first and had to wait briefly while they finished cleaning ours, but were compted with free drinks at the ocean view poolside bar while we waited. We ate there a couple of times...the food is quite good and if you reserve or get lucky you can get one of the few tables right on the pier. Lovely! You can find better food in town, but sometimes you just don't feel like the hassle of parking etc. If you stay, walk down to Louie's Backyard for dinner-that's fine dining! Also eat at Blue Heaven in town and be sure to save room for their key lime pie.
A few minor complaints....there is only an instant espresso machine in the room. If you want coffee you have to go the lobby and shell out $3.25 + tax. And there is a daily $12 charge if you want internet in your room....you can get free internet at far less expensive motels everywhere....this is just wrong!! There are 2 computers you can use for free in the lobby, but people are always waiting to use them, so first you wait, then you feel rushed because others are waiting for you to finish. There really isn't tennis, as stated on the site, it's a public court down the street. The resort fee $20 daily added to your bill was supposed to include fresh fruit....I never saw any. Usually, if you are staying at a resort this nice and paying this much, the staff comes around in the evening and brings fresh towels and chocolates, or at least has cookies in the lobby. Here if you have a sweet tooth in the evening, open your wallet, again.... Don't get me wrong, we had a great time...I would recommend the place and I would stay there again....just little annoyances that would class the place up a little more.

We enjoyed our stay at the Casa Marina. Check-in was very muddled, however. Our room wasn't ready so we were asked to sit at the bar and told we would be called when the room was available. Two hours later, we checked with staff and learned they had just forgotten to call us which was really irritating. Other than that, the hotel service was quite good. The grounds are very beautiful and peaceful. Hotel is quite a walk from Duval Street, but that was probably good given all we ate and drank during the trip. Great massage at the spa.

We arrived without any reservation at 8:00 a.m. The front desk employee was amazing in helping us out. We were awarded a room immediately without having to wait for the normal check in time. The same employee offered us a late check out time the following day, allowing us to enjoy paradise a little longer.
Our room was on ground floor, with a patio and a stunning view of the pool and the sea behind it. The only drawback was the bathroom that is a little outdated and should be redone. Apart from that, everything in this resort was perfect.

We stayed at the Casa Marina in a Grand Ocean View room overlooking the front entrance to the property on the ocean side. It had a huge balcony and stunning view. The room was very large although the bathroom was small. It was very clean and well maintained on a daily basis. The front desk people were wonderful, especially Patrick and Maria. The hotel is very beautiful and well manicured. It is a bit of a walk ( 35 minutes) to Mallory Sq. but worth it because of the peace and quiet of the area. I was very pleased with my experience at the CM. The only two things I would suggest to improve the overall guest experience would be to 1) remove the $20 daily resort fee ( a pretty ridiculous charge for amenities that should already be included in the room rate) and 2) provide free coffee in the lobby in the morning. (The in room espresso machine was useless in my opinion). I did enjoy the complimentary NY Times each day as well as the refreshing lime/mint cold drink provided in the afternoon. I asked for a late checkout and was denied initially, but after talking to a manager (Jeff) I was accommodated. I am a Hilton Honors member which I suggest joining if you are thinking of staying at this hotel.

We stayed at the Casa Marina for six days and loved it. Steve on the beachfront/pool was absolutely fabulous and helped us with towels and beach chairs. We had lunch at the resort's restaurant every day and were thrilled with the quality of the food and drinks. Service was speedy every day but one, which was understandable because a wedding was taking place at the resort later in the day.
I was disappointed with the pools, as they had a salty taste to the water and they were not saltwater pools. This was a little disconcerting, but the wide stretch of beach and ocean were absolutely beautiful.
The gift shop workers were very friendly as well as the front desk people. The men working the outside booth found us taxis quickly when we asked for them, there was no waiting involved.
The rooms were very small. We paid to have an ocean view room, and upon arriving realized how small it was. We had three people staying in one room, and while the king size bed was comfortable, the pull out sofa bed was horrendous. However, the TV worked well, the coffee machine was a delight, and the shower and bathroom amenties were perfect. On top of this, we had a delightful balcony with a sliding glass door and a perfect view of the ocean and Key West's beautiful sunsets. The cleaning staff was attentive and always on time, and the rooms were perfectly attended and cleaned.
Everything here is pricy, but it is understandable as Key West imports almost all their ingredients. But, for what we pay to stay here, the luxury and attentive staff are definitely provided. On top of that, the resort isn't too populated and there were always beach and/or pool chairs available, and Steve came around with wet cloths and glasses of ice water to refresh us on the hot days.
For the most part, we loved this trip and would stay here again!
