Casa Marina Key West, A Waldorf Astoria Resort
Ranked #41 of 51 Hotels in Key West

Just stayed at this hotel for a couple of nights. Everyone was very welcoming, offering advice about Key West, beach chairs, towels, frozen eucalyptus towels and even cucumber slices for your eyes. Our room was average but comfortable and well stocked with toiletries, water and coffee/espresso. Also lovely flavored water around the hotel and fresh sliced fruit. Lots of activities! Including ping pong, beach volleyball, yoga and other games.

A few cons would be that the beach wasn't really swim able, very rocky and lots of seaweed. Also the food was good but pricey. The breakfast buffet ran us $70 for two people. Two drinks at the bar can run you $30.

Room Tip: The 2nd floor seems to have the luxurious rooms with large, oceanfront balconies.

Stayed in a King Suite; room was "nice" but really somewhat "comfort innish" and not Waldorf Astoria by any means. Hotel guests seemed somewhat pretentious. Cleaning service in room was poor; although they did credit the missed room cleaning to the somewhat extravagant resort fee that is charged on top of the parking charge ($25 resort fee per day + $25 parking fee per day). Thought these fee's were a little ridiculous; why not just increase the price of the room instead of dinging you once you arrive. This hotel is quite a walk to the shops and sight seeing on Duvall St. Especially in July heat. I would not stay here again...not for the price.

My family of five stayed here in two rooms for a week between June 28th and July 4th. I have been to Key West several times and this was the first time staying at the Casa Marina. We have stayed at the Reach before, the other Waldorf Astoria property down the street. As a background on Key West, there are only a few top hotels in Key West and none of them are world class hotels, even though you may pay world class prices. All of the hotels are fairly small as there isn't much real estate to work with - it's a small island. So, to be specific about Casa Marina, let me give you the Pros and Cons.

The Pros:
- Very nice "outdoor" property including pools, outdoor restaurants and beach. OK, why do I say this when so many other reviews bash the exterior? Because 98% of all Key West Hotels do not have a beach! There are only 5 that I know of; The Reach, Southernmost Hotel (not good), the Hyatt and the Pier House.
- The service was very good. The staff everywhere was very friendly and helpful, Paul who worked at the pool/beach stand was excellent.
- Outdoor Restaurant was great for breakfast and lunch. We explored for Dinner every night.
- location was good if you like a little quiet. Yes, it is 1.5 miles from Mallory square, but there is much to explore and you can get away from the craziness of Duval.
- Close to many great restaurants
- Lobby was small, but nice
- Easy check in

Cons:
- Rooms are really not up to par. They are outdated and a bit too small. How can two rooms right next to each other be of different size and even have two extremely different TV sizes?
We asked for different rooms and they told us they were booked. OK, I buy that for one night, but there were people arriving and departing every day. Really, update the rooms or be prepared to move people who complain. I spent a lot of money with two rooms at Casa Marina and expect to be accommodated.
- Workout room had decent equipment, but the building is dilapidated - it shook when anyone ran on the treadmill and I thought it was going to fall down.
- location, as I said above, I don't mind a little walk, but it is not close to the Duval action and shuttles would be helpful.
- indoor hotel bar was never open

Overall, I like the Reach better. The outdoor property is not as nice as Casa Marina, but the rooms are *much* nicer and it is closer to Duval Street. I love Key West and the Casa Marina was nice, but I am not sure that I will stay here again.

We had an awesome time. The hotel was nice, the staff was very very accommodating. We were there the weekend of the basketball play-offs. The staff went out of their way to let us eat in an area that was closed, but the television in that area was bigger. We ordered our food by the patio but they brought the food to us inside. At anytime we ran into any problems they were addressed immediately. We could not have asked for a better time. Oh for the rooms, they were nice as well. We wanted connecting rooms, but we could not get that, but we were able to get rooms next door to each other and we were able to go next door from our patios. We could step right out of out patio and go to the beach or to the pool. AWESOME PLACE!

After staying in a near by "Blue Marlin Motel" for a couple of nights, we found out that this place was just $75 more per night and booked a couple nights here. It was magical... overlooking the Atlantic side (prettiest) side of the island where the blue water comes up to your private beach where you will be laying in a Hammock in the shade of a Palm Tree. Great hotel and staff, superb dining (expensive) and a great place to unwind. This is the kind of place you go and never leave. But you will want to rent a skooter and "do the town", visit the galleries, go on a day cruise to Dry Tortuga, etc. etc. Go to the Caribean without leaving the US .... that's what I'm talking about.

Room Tip: it is rocky in the water, so the beach is more of a "view" than going to the ocean and pla...

Beautiful, picturesque setting on the ocean. Room was decent but nothing special. If you go with children, you might benefit from the daily resort fee that is charged, otherwise, food and bar facilities may not be open and the "resort" is not within walking distance of restaurants or bars in the area. Concierge could not help us with our rental car request.

Pot luck with room, we were 3 couples our room was crowded with 2 small doubles, even tho we asked for king size.. and a small door to terrace but view filled in with screens and another room overlooking us Our other 2 in group got large rooms with view of back roofs.. Yuk. The Breakfast 'server' was rude.. And no shuttle to town 1.5 miles away..outside hotel is spectacular, pools and beach. And staff were very attentive..
