i cant believe this isnt further up the list of hotels, there are so many hotels in key west and this one looked much better than the rest of them. the room is gorgeous, with a big 4 poster and comfy bed, there was a living room area and a balcony that looked over the pool and the kitchen area was lovely, even had a coffee machine and coffee sachets. the pool is great and the jacuzzi is warm and relaxing, breakfast is just right, with bagels and mini muffins as well as toast cereals and juices, we took our breakfast on the beach area and watch the cormarants. even saw an iguana on the beach area. the tiki hut opens for cocktails at night and watching the sunset with a cocktail is a real treat. the staff are super friendly and will always get you a cab or tell you the best place to eat - they even gave us some coupons for meals, the butterfly house etc. ooh also the room has a super comfy dressing gown! such a simple touch but really made my day! i would def go back to this hotel

First time to the keys.......where to stay?
So, this resort is really easy to find provided you go NORTH on roosevelt road when you leave U.S 1.
Banana bay is set in quite spacious grounds with palms and banana plants everywhere. Reception was very helpful on check in and every time we needed help to get a cab they were great.
the room was way above what i would expect, four poster , cooking area and very clean.
The pool was really good, the grounds well kept and also a gorgeous hot-tub. They have a beach front (no beach, like the rest of the keys!) and it is definitley a great place to relax in the evenings. Theres no food on site but with many a place to eat along the same street , including the awesome tgi's, it didnt really matter at all.
Overall this is a calm , clean and peaceful base to enjoy the keys.
BUT, They do have a cage with 20 odd white doves in that is just awful to see. I dont know if they have them on site to release for a wedding moment or whether they are just there for people to look at. Its just awful to see such glorious birds caged , just plain sad. Do something about this and the place would become awesome.

Thank you so much for your wonderful review! I do want to let you know that our doves are released several times a week for exercise and always return to their poolside coup by nightfall. Thank you for your concern and we look forward to having you stay with us in the future.

My husband and I were spending 2 weeks in the Key. We came across this hotel by accident. During the search of past reviews we found many that indicated the pool was clothing optional. So when I called, the staff said this was an adult resort and the pool was clothing optional.
We were staying at the Crown Plaza the first week of our trip. When we checked out of the first hotel, we called and asked if we could drop our luggage off at Banana Bay before we checked in. They said “no problem, come on over”. So we did… Keep in mine it was 10:00am when we got to the front desk. The staff were so nice and friendly. They told us our room was ready and we could check in now. Keep in mind it was 10 in the morning, most hotels were still checking people out at that time. So they gave us our key and we went up to our room. What a surprise.
Room was very nice, great view overlooking the pool and bay.
So we decided to pass on going to the beach and decided to go sit at the pool for the day. We get down to the pool and there is one couple there. She is topless and he is bottomless. No problem for us, being the nudists we are. We take off our suits and enjoy the sun. A short time later a couple comes down and sits next to us. They are telling us that the resort is not really clothing optional anymore. Well we were told that is was when we made the reservations and checked in. We did ask the manager again and he told us that because we had been told this when we checked in we could be nude during our stay. We also came to find out that this couple was not even staying at the resort but lived in the area and just like to use the pool here. After a few more days, we met many other nudists who use Banana Bay to lay out. None of them were guests. Kinds pissed us off, we were paying $184.00 per night and these people were just trespassing. The icing on the cake was when a group of local teens showed up and started drinking. After about 2 hours they did get kicked out, but the nerve….
Overall the resort is very nice, clean and well kept. Security is a joke. Our guess is that over half of the people that use the facility are not even guests.

The accomidations were nice and the hotel staff was very accomidating during our stay. The dolphin and snorkling trip that the hotel works with was great. That is the upside.

The downside was that when we first booked the hotel, we were under the impression that it was a clothing optional / adults only location. We found that that had changed before we arrived.

That being said, I'd give it 4 out of 5 stars only because my wife and I practice a clothing optional lifestyle.

My husband and I stayed at Banana Bay for 4 nights. We had a nightmarish trip down (we were supposed to get into Miami at 2:30 p.m. and drive down to Key West but ended up not getting to Key West until almost 2 a.m. due to various airplane issues and delays). I called to let them know that we were not going to be there by their 10 p.m. cut-off. They let me know that they would check us in and leave our key with the security guard so we would be able to get into our room without a problem. Although we missed a night in Key West, the remaining nights were fabulous! Banana Bay is a short cab ride to Duval Street (about $10). If you would prefer to stay off the beaten path, Banana Bay is for you; if not, I would recommend staying closer to Duval. It is extremely quiet and has a great pool and tiki bar (there is no restaurant, but you can get delivery from a couple of different places in the area). The room was above average compared to what we saw in the area. We would absolutely stay there again the next time we visit Key West!
