We were warmly welcomed by Laura upon our arrival and enjoyed 2 nights in the Garden Room on the main floor. Breakfasts were delicious with many choices from fruit to pastries and of course mimosas. The best coffee of our 2 week holiday in the Keys! We thought it was great that the haunted history of the Artists House is included in the hop on hop off tours of Key West. Laura was most helpful in suggesting restaurants and things to do, making reservations, etc. We never made it to happy hour as we were too busy exploring Key West. Thrilled with our stay at the Artists House.

Thank you for the wonderful review. The Garden room is a lovely room on the 1st floor with an en-suite bathroom and small private outside patio. It is such a cozy room.
I am glad to hear you enjoyed our breakfast particularly the coffee and mimosa's. We do try to provide enough choice for everyone.
Laura has some great suggestions for activities and her recommendations for dinner are always a great choice.
We look forward to seeing you again soon

The experience was rewarding. The artist house was quant and enjoyable. It was located near anything that you would like to see and enjoy in Key West. The service was excellent and helped find restaurants that turned out to be excellent.
Other guests that were there and which we met at breakfast also enjoyed the Artist House. I want to thank Laura especially. She was our main interface and seconded as our tour guide. She was pleasant and helpful.

We had previously stayed at the Artist House on Fleming Street. The Fleming Street property is much more modern so we found the original artist house a little dusty around the ages, and maintenance did not seem to be as good. The kitchen is quite small, but we were able to eat breakfast outside. We stayed in the Parlour Suite, which was large and had a comfy four poster bed. We were a little freaked out by the ghost stories and there were many tours turning up outside day and night! The location is excellent and we would likely choose this property over Fleming Street again, purely on location. A quirky, interesting house, a little pricey, but definitely worth a look.

Room Tip: We found our room to the front a little noisy with traffic and tours so choose a room to the back of the house if you'd prefer absolute peace

Thank you for taking the time to review the Artist House. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your stay. The Parlor suite is a lovely large room on the 1st floor with a wonderful four poster canopy bed.
The Artist House is one of the most photographed houses in Key West due to the lovely architectural style and of course the history of the house. The ghost tours come by each evening with plenty of stories.
We have two other amazing King size rooms, both at the back of the house, which are a little quieter. We would be happy to give our recommendations when you make your return journey.

We arrived at the Artist's House to a nice welcome, just in time for the happy hour on the balcony after a 7-hour drive from the Gulf Coast. Two couples travelling together we chose the Turret Room having been assured we would be in separate rooms. As the name implies, these rooms are at the top of the house, and there is no lift/elevator. One room is spacious with a double bed and two bathrooms, but the other room (in the turret) does not include a double bed; rather a 4ft 6ins bed for very short people - and as our friends discovered, totally uncomfortable for a decent night's rest and horrendously noisy.

Right, Key West is a party town and the Artist's House has a great location, and provides visitors with a splendid, healthy breakfast - but that's it. For most people, the prime objective is getting a decent night's rest. Na, not here. Starting at 9pm through to 3 am, there is extensive noise pollution ranging from loud, yobbish tourists in the street to thumping music, unnecessarily noisy motorcycles and god-knows-what infernal machines waking you up at 6 or 7 in the morning. There is no noise insulation in this Victorian building and, as we found, no heating or respite from the cold (45F). The air system pumps out only cold air. And, if one's accommodation-sharers wish to make a trip down from the turret to the bathroom, think Creaky Towers. (It's an old wooden building, and nothing better could be expected). The night's rest is I imagine akin to a night at Guantanamo. Thankfully, we only stayed two nights. All four of us were absolutely shattered from our experience - and we faced another 7-hour drive north. Our friends had to move down from the turret and sleep on the pullout sofa to get anything resembling a good night’s sleep. Remember, you are paying for this.

One of the bathrooms in the Turret is OK, although the curtain structure round the shower-in-the-bath required some Meccano skills as well as a heater

Forcing ourselves to stay awake during our 2-day visit to KW, we would really recommend the Truman White House, the Audubon House, and the Hemingway House.

Would be return to Artist's House? Nope.

Room Tip: Avoids the Turret Room, if not the entire establishment

I am sorry to hear you found serious problems with our property. The Artist House is over 100 years old and the Turret suite is one of our most requested rooms. There are two bedrooms, on separate floors with a connecting spiral staircase, which is one of the original features of the house. A description and pictures of the room are found on our website. The top turret does have a standard double bed, also stated on the website. We are situated in historic old town, where the city prohibits the use of double glazing or noise reducing windows and we have to preserve the house in its original condition. We have a great location, just one block from Duval street. It was an extremely busy weekend during your stay and although we do sometimes experience some outside noise, I find your description of the disturbance a little excessive. Perhaps your attempt at some English humor. Unfortunately Key West was experiencing unusual cold weather during your stay. Extra blankets and a space heater are provided in all the rooms.

We had a mixed experience when we stayed for two nights in mid January in the Turret Suite at the Artists House.

The house is full of original features and the staff are welcoming and try their best to please and make your stay memorable. The big problem is that the rooms at the front of this B&B face the road which is busy all night with revellers and passing cars and bikers, especially at the weekend. In particular the Turret faces the downtown party area and we were kept awake until 3 am with the nearby disco beat and passing traffic. The bed in the actual Turret is quite narrow and uncomfortable, so we had to go down the the main room on the second night to get a better night's sleep.

Although the house is full of attractive and original features, some are in need of upgrading - for example, the bathroom showers deliver cold or lukewarm water and the electrical systems are prone to fail. We had to help out a couple on the ground floor who had tripped their circuit breakers when all the staff had gone home.

On the positive side, the breakfasts and the happy hour drinks are excellent and House is close to all the major sites. I can see that with the right choice of room (at the back of the property and away from the road), this would be a much more enjoyable experience. But for us, it was less than satisfactory and not particularly good value for money.

Thank you for taking the time to review our house. The Turret suite is a lovely large two bedroom suite with a queen bed and double bed, both standard size. There are two bathrooms (not standard in most 2 bedroom suites in Key West), one recently remodeled with a large walk in shower. The water temperature was checked after reading your review and found to be as hot as expected.
The house is over 100 years old and the circuit breakers do trip which is why we make the guests aware of this. It is all part and parcel of the quirkiness of the house. We are situated in historic old town, where the city prohibits the use of double glazing or noise reducing windows. We have to preserve the house in its original condition.
