We stayed in this house 15 years ago so coming back was a bit of a nostalgia trip. It has changed owners since and is all the better for it. Very close to Duval and walking distance to most of the islands sights. The house is part of various historic and ghost tours (Search Robert the Doll) and is apparently one of the most photographed houses on the island which says something if you have seen how many beautiful houses there are on Key West. There is happy hour each day (free beer wine soft drinks and snacks) and a free continental breakfast.

Very nice and helpful staff.

Not the cheapest place to stay but worth it and if you fancy splashing out on dinner then check out Latitudes whilst here. A restaurant on the beach on an island, you have to get a boat to.

This was our second time at the Artist House in Key West. It did not disappoint. We stayed in the Parlor Suite and had a large and comfortable bed in a room of a nice size. I had been concerned it might be loud as it faced the street and was near the front door and stairs, but we didn't hear anyone else during our stay. The bathroom has dual shower heads which was a treat. A ghost tour stopped in front of the hotel while we were there, and it was fun to sit on the porch and hear some of the tales regarding the history of the house. The staff could not have been more helpful. We will definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: The Parlor Suite is large and airy with a comfortable bed. It faces the street.

Very very nice house just a corner away from Duval Street. There are many nice houses in Key West in "Old Florida" style and this house indeed deserves high rank in my own list of Key's beautiful houses. We stayed in Anne's room so can speak about this room only. Room is very big, big bed, and very big bathroom as well, which makes you feel comfortable. At first glance, once you open the door, your impression is something like WOW, so big and so nice room. Some remarks anyway: windows and Venetian blinds very very dirty, the Venedian blinds had so much dust that one could think the dust is original from Hemingway's time! Same goes for the ceiling fans in room and bathroom, very dusty. Needs some strong cleaning. Last but not least: the sockets were unsafe and shaky, we were afraid of putting our battery charger on.
Breakfast: standard average one, not bad not fantastic, just standard. Paid usd 510 (before tax) for 2 nights, which is expensive but this is Key West baby, and you pay also for the super location and the beaty of the house. Complimentary afternoon happy hour, which gives an extra to this place. Apart from the remarks above loved to stay in this house.

Thank you for taking the time to write this review. I am sorry to hear that your room was not as clean as it should have been. The room has since been given a complete spring clean and we had all the electric sockets replaced. My apologies that you experienced this dip in our standards.
I am glad to hear you enjoyed happy hour and you are right....you cant beat the location!!

The Artist House was a nice place to stay and very close to Duval where all of the action is. The staff was very nice and willing to accommodate and any tours we were interested in doing. Would definitely stay there again on future trips to Key West!! The Sun Room is kind of small so I wouldn't recommend it for any more than a couple and if you want a large bathroom this isn't the room but I checked out some of their other rooms and they are very large so options are available. The only thing that could have been better would have been having the bedding changed more regularly, I'm sure if we would have asked they would have accommodated!

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay and would chose to stay with us again in the future. The Sun room is the smallest in the house but always a popular choice for couples. We change the bed linen every 3 days and would do more often if asked. We look forward to seeing you again soon

We booked our room at the Artist House as part of a large 2-week road trip down to Key West and back...we stayed there for 4 nights and we also had planned our beach wedding prior to going down so it was a particularly special stay for us. Everything turned out wonderfully. The room (we had the Eugene Studio) was spacious, clean, and we had everything we could possibly need. It was quiet and peaceful. The house also has a complimentary breakfast which is very nice and a happy hour each day which we really enjoyed (got our pre-dinner glass of wine or beer and were able to just kick back and relax in the lovely little courtyard). Our wedding went off without a hitch and they were even able to help me out in a fix by lending some hairspray and champagne flutes from their guest lending space. Everyone was very helpful with directions and suggestions. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. It was a lovely, relaxing time.

Tips: If you want a lovely, special dinner definitely go to Michael's. It was delicious and our waiter there was a total sweetheart.
We also ate a lovely dinner at a restaurant set a little back from Duval street called Square One I think? It was delicious and not nearly as noisy or crowded as other places. Great couple spot.
Finally...check out Key West Ecotours...and the JavaCat. We spent a great morning sailing, kayaking and snorkeling.

Room Tip: Go for an upper floor room. We loved our room but when I booked it was the only one I could get for...

My wife and I decided to go to Key West for our honeymoon. It was our first time in Key West and we're glad we chose to stay at The Artist House! We were in the sun room, which was small as the web site photos indicated, but it was perfect for our needs. The mini-fridge, coffee maker, and microwave in the room were nice bonuses. There is also a flat-screen tv. Quick story: Our second day there we came back to our room in the evening and noticed a strong foul odor in room. Kind of musty/moldy. We figured out the smell was coming from the air conditioner which was extremely dirty and moldy. We didn't really want to complain but we figured the mold wasn't a good idea to be breathing in, so we told the young woman at the front desk the next morning. She apologized and said someone would take care of it for us. When we got back that evening, they had done an excellent and thorough job of cleaning the a/c out. We walked into the room and it was nice, fresh and clean smelling. What a relief! They were very attentive and apologized for the a/c several more times afterwards, even though it wasn't necessary. There was a problem, and they fixed it, simple as that! The breakfast every morning was yummy - juices, coffee, cereal, toast, bagels, various pastries, even champagne! We didn't actually take advantage of happy hour because we were out and about most often, but we did see the spread they put out and it looked fabulous – a few different kinds of beers and various snacks. The woman who put out the meals and cleaned the rooms was very pleasant and did a great job (I'm not sure of her name.) Whoever was at the desk at various times was very helpful – whether it was booking a trolley tour for us, recommending restaurants, or calling the ferry company for us to confirm boarding procedures – they were all very pleasant and helpful. They even let us store some donuts in the fridge on our departure day so they wouldn't melt. When you stay at a B&B you do so for the little details and the personalized experience, and they made us feel at home during our stay. We'd definitely stay here again. Thanks Artist House!

Room Tip: The Sun Room is good for couples who appreciate small, quaint spaces. Make sure you can climb steep...

Thank you for taking the time to review the Artist House. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your honeymoon staying with us. As you mentioned, the Sun room is small but quirky and is a big favorite with our guests. We are glad you enjoyed our extensive breakfast and next time you come, you must stay one afternoon for Happy Hour. It is always fun.

From the beautifully appointed and immaculate room, to the quirky things only an antique home can offer, to the tasty complimentary happy hour you can enjoy with and get to know the other guests, to the scrumptious breakfast offered (waaay better than the stuff you get at major hotel chains eg...fresh bakery croissants, fresh fruit etc), and the inviting and homey relationship you establish with the owner and staff...you can NOT find a better place to stay. You are within walking distance of just about everything, and bike rentals are available on site if you want to be more adventurous! We are already planning a return trip. Trust me on this...Artists House will FAR exceed expectations!

Room Tip: There is no fitness center...except for walking and biking! There IS a small pool with jets that is...
