INGHAM served our country from 1936 to 1988 and in 1985 was the most decorated ship in United States Service as noted in a letter from President Ronald Reagan in the exhibit room. It is the last American Warship afloat to have sunk a German U-Boat (626) in WWII. It served as the Flagship for the seaside operation of General MacArthur's return to Corrigedor in the Philippines. She served from 1936 to 1988.

It's a self-guided tour. The day we went, the AC wasn't working so well. Probably best to go on a cool day. But this ship has seen a lot of work and the displays are really interesting. Allow enough time to look at all the old photos and read the captions. It's a great stop for a history buff.

What an experience! This is the tour to take if you want to see the every day life on board a real military ship, from the engine room and communications center to her galley and living quarters! The Ingham is the only cutter in history to receive 2 Presidential Unit Citations for military heroism, serving from 1936 through 1988. It is a museum full of memorabilia and offers an impressive look into a military period of war and peace. You will not leave without feeling a sense of pride and honor.
One note, however, is that it being a ship, ladders are the only access to the 3 levels. They are narrow and steep, but well worth the effort! It is not for small children!

Still looking for new things to do in Key West - we saw the coupons for the Ingham and then read the Tripadvisor reviews. Coupons from any of the local free guidebooks will save $2/each.

This was a self guided tour which is common on such ships. The volunteer was enthusiastic and pointed out where to begin the tour. The Ingham has had honorable and venerable service and is the most decorated Coast Guard vessel. For that reason alone, this is worth the visit! And if you have never been aboard such a vessel - it is a great experience for adults and children alike.

That said - when compared with some of the other ships we have toured, there is some room for improvement. The cutter could use some paint and a little cleaning. There could be a little more explanation, not just on the handouts and occasional videos, but on placards.

Maintaining such a museum is difficult, but this ship deserves all the honors we can give it!

This was the best thing I did while down in Key West! Its a self guided tour however there are spots along the ship with audio that elaborate what you are looking at, etc. Upon boarding the ship you are greated by a volunteer that gives you a bit of history and information on the Ingham. If you are history buff this is a must.
