“Not the best, but still great”
Reviewed June 21, 2013

Lots of free samples for different key lime foods (taffy, limeade, cookies, sauces, jelly beans, etc.) The pie was good, but not the best on the island.

“Great Key Lime pie.”
Reviewed June 21, 2013

Shop was very clean and inviting. Key lime pie was excellent. We really enjoyed the frozen key lime pie on a stick, dipped in chocolate. Kermit's was featured on Food Network for having the best key lime pie, and they did not disappoint.

“Diabetics stay away, everyone else go for it!”
Reviewed June 20, 2013 via mobile

Cute place with an adorable mascot and nice outdoor seating. The service is great and lots of free samples. Don't leave without trying the Key Lime pie on a stick frozen and covered in chocolate! We had sampled this at the annual pie fest in Celebration and couldn't wait to get to Key West to enjoy it again! Oh man the sugar and calories- just don't think about it and savior the moment! Being from central Florida we got a kick out of the coconut key lime patties- made in Orlando! Go figure! Don't miss this place!

You mention that you are from Central Florida... did you know that there is a Kermit's location right in your backyard? Our kitchen, distribution facility and retail store is in DeLand! Stop in for a visit when you're in the area! You don't have to wait for your next trip to Key West to indulge!

“One word...”
Reviewed June 17, 2013

Ew.

First and foremost, there is bottled lime juice in the key lime pie (I cook... I KNOW). For the price of a slice of pie ($4.75), they needed to squeeze limes, freshly picked every morning, straight into the mix. Also, they had samples of jams or jellies out and flies made a nice neighborhood out of each jar. Come on people. You seriously need to do better. I didn't give them one star because they were nice, and the pie was consumable. But if you're going to be famous for something, make it the best.

KermitsKeyLime, Director of Sales at Kermit's Key West Key Lime Shoppe, responded to this review, June 25, 2013
We are disappointed to hear that you don’t feel that your experience at Kermit’s was a very positive one. Yes, our key lime juice IS bottled…we bottle it ourselves on a weekly basis. As you may or may not know, in 1992 Hurricane Andrew decimated the commercial key lime crop in South Florida, creating the need for us (and everyone else who makes more than just the occasional key lime pie) to source our key limes from elsewhere. For this reason, we make our double-strength juice and bottle it for our use and also for retail sale for customers to make pies and other key lime treats in their own homes. In terms of the price of a slice, you will find that it is not out of line with regards to the economy of purchasing anything from an island destination. As you may have noticed during your stay, gas prices run approximately 50 cents per gallon more than the mainland, as do just about all other consumer goods prices comparatively.

We do our best to be vigilant about the small flying visitors that find their way through our open doors, and try to keep someone stationed at the sampling bar to keep a constant eye on it. Unfortunately, it only takes a moment them to try to plan an attack. As you mentioned in one of your other reviews of Key West that the situation can’t be helped in such a setting, however, we do our best to maintain the cleanliness of the sampling bar, and promptly remove anything that we feel may have been compromised.

We hope you enjoyed the rest of your visit to Key West and all that it has to offer.

“Nice Place for Ice-Cream and Gifts”
Reviewed June 15, 2013

This place offers lots of tasty samples. We bought some key lime jelly beans and got ice-cream cones. The vanilla and key lime flavors were both good. There's a wide variety of key lime flavored treats. They're a bit pricey though.
