Owner description: As the only air-service, we are by far the most exciting and convenient way to reach the Dry Tortugas, one of North America's most inaccessible National Parks. The Park lies in the blue-green waters of the Gulf of Mexico, 70 miles due west of Key West, FL. Low altitude sightseeing flight, great snorkeling, pristine beaches, tour Fort Jefferson & bird watching. Morning, Afternoon & full day tours.

Aircraft like these normally spend their time prowling the skys and waterways of Alaska, what fun to have them based here in Florida.
The Dry Tortugas had also been a bucket list item of ours for some time, if your plans and budget allow take the seaplane. The flight over is great, nice and low so you can see some things you'll never know were there if you take the ferry. The plane gets you there quick and unless you've booked the full day, you will be leaving quick. Plan accordingly and mind your time.
Take an early or late flight to avoid the crowds from the ferry and enjoy some peace and quiet while on the island.

I've had Dry Tortugas on my "bucket list" for several years. I've had been living vicariously through other people's posts about the experience and I finally go to take the trip. Ultimately, I decided to go with the seaplane over the ferry because of the additional experience you get with 1) the seaplane and 2) seeing the Florida Keys from above.

First thing this morning I found out that one of their planes had a maintenance issue and my flight wasn't going to go. These things happen, and I'm sure they're frustrating for everyone. Fortunately, they were able to get me in another plane later in the day, the last one of the day.

Here's what I suggest: DO THIS! It is worth the extra money over the boat because they are not apples and oranges. Boat is just a ride to the Fort. Seaplane is its own experience in and of itself. Do the first or last trip of the day so that you are on the island when the boat people aren't. (Fewer people). Be careful not to lose track of time, I only had a few minutes to snorkel because I was more or less obsessed with the fort. And finally, sit on the same side of the plane both ways. That way you'll get both views.

Just returned from two nights in Little Palm Island which was wonderful but what made this trip extra special was the fantastic sea plane flight from Sarasota direct to the resort's dock. Nikali met us at Sarasota private terminal and before we knew it we were flying high above Sarasota and heading south.

The views were amazing and the flight very smooth.

Would highly recommend and look forward toour next flight.

Everything about this trip was perfect! Would definitely recommend . People at Seaplane Adventures were helpful, knowledgeable, and happy to answer questions. Great narrated trip over and back with amazing views! Snorkeling on island was wonderful. ( They provide good snorkeling equipment). Do wish we had booked the whole day. ..would have spent more time on the beautiful beach and in the azure water.. Truly memorable!

We took the morning three-hour trip; it was great. We were a bit late to check-in for the flight, but the counter staff (she is also the ground crew) was very polite. At check-in, you are given a small ice chest in which to put water, pop or ice tea that is provided at no additional cost. The views from the plane both going to Fort Jefferson and returning to Key West are stunning. Don't worry about which side of the plane you sit on because on the return leg, those on the left side will see the same things that the folks on the right side saw on the outbound leg. Bring a camera because you will get some great shots of the fort and Key West. The pilot narrated the flight and pointed out the ship wrecks, private island and even the remains of boats used by Cuban refugees. He told us the best place to snorkel given the wind and tide conditions. The snorkeling gear that was provided was good. I would recommend bringing some anti-fog drops if you are going snorkeling. Fort Jefferson is interesting. While the self-guided tour starting placard said it would take about thirty minutes to do the tour, it took us at least an hour. We had over an hour to snorkel and, for us, that was plenty of time. There are changing rooms on the island so we were able to change out of our wet swim gear into dry clothes for the return flight. When we arrived, we had the island pretty much to ourselves (except for the campers and people off the private sailboats) because the boat did not arrive until about 10:30 a.m. As others have noted, the trip is somewhat expensive, but well worth it if you don't want to spend three hours on the boat and want to have a relatively private island experience along with a water landing.
