“Perfect Place for Weekend Getaway”
Reviewed March 22, 2012

I had never been to Key West, Florida before, and planned a trip for myself and my partner in a hurry. We knew nothing about the Grand Guesthouse, except that it was the only place with availability for all of the nights we planned to stay. I wasnt expecting anything beyond a bed to sleep in and a functioning bathroom to use. I was in for a big surprise, as the place was not only beyond beautiful, but accommodating to no end. The staff were extremely helpful, kind, hospitable, and polite. The environment was clean, convenient, and our room had far more amenities than I had expected. This certainly isnt a place for a spring break party, but it was exactly what we wanted - quiet, warm, peaceful, the perfect place to hide away from urban life. We ended up having a perfect romantic weekend, and I dont think we could have selected a better place to stay. The morning continental breakfast is certainly satisfying, they even have homemade bread! The appliances in the rooms (microwave, fridge, AC, clock/ipod speaker, etc) were all new and clean, and we even had a sink with all the dishes one would need for one's own cooking. The staff are really warm and welcoming people, and were really helpful in pointing us in the right direction for things to do for the day. The location of the Grand Guesthouse is very convenient as well, the grocery stores, liquor stores, restaurants, and other services are all within a few blocks (and walking around the neighborhood is stunningly beautiful). If I come to Key West again, I will most certainly be staying here!

Room Tip: Room #7 gets excellent sunlight, and is right above the breakfast and water supply (though there is...

The Grand is a small (10 rooms) property with a lot to like. The old-town location is excellent and within easy walking distance to Duval Street and Mallory Square. The "suite" that we stayed in had a galley kitchen as well as a small table and a couch in the living area with a separate bedroom and bath. There was plenty of room for the two of us. The manager is very friendly and knowledgeable and helped identify several excellent close-by cafes and bars. The included continental breakfast is not fancy but certainly adequate. There is no pool but plenty of outdoor sitting and lounging area although it is all shared with the other guests. All in all a pretty good find.

We just spent three nights here and couldn't have been more pleased. The location of the Grand Guesthouse gives you a neighborhood feel and is located within walking distance of many attractions. Derik was very helpful in giving directions and making recommendiations of things to do and places to dine. We took advantage of the on-site bicycle rentals to tour Key West. Highly reccommend this B & B.

This is our second visit to Key West & a much more enjoyable experience then staying @ the Marriott resort. It is not a resort by any means, but it felt more homey and welcoming. The main reason for this was the host Derek. The atmosphere of the whole stay changed on his days off. I believe these were Tue/Wed. It was the first time I was welcomed so warmly upon an early check-in. Not only without hassle, but with a cold glass of wine after an exhausting day of travel. We were fairly familiar with the small island, and past activities. Derek still managed to steer us in the right direction on a few other excursions. Two very reasonable Cuban restaurant/take-out places were within a block or two of the inn. We had no car, and no reason to need one. Bikes are there for rental, and are only a few more $$ then in town. The bonus is you get them for 24 hrs.

The lack of a pool was not a huge factor as Fort Zachory, and the best beach in Key West is a short bike ride away. The rooms are small, and the web-site is accurate. We were rarely in our rooms, and spent the time there on the small deck area near our room. I'm not sure I would have wanted one of the front porch rooms; occasionally, guests would wait for cabs in this area. I felt like our porch was a bit more "our own."

The housekeeping service was much more friendly, and reliable than the Marriot. Maria was always on the property around the end of breakfast. So, you never felt rushed to get out of your room. The room was always returned to the state of our arrival, and I felt very secure of my belongings. Anything more you needed was only a request away.

The breakfast was adequate for the advertised continental style. It usually kept me filled until a late lunch, and I am a very active/athletic individual. My only complaint was the yogurt choices during our last few days turned to a poor generic brand with artificial ingredients. Advertised a green facility I would have liked more organic/natural choices, and a nice recycle center in the eating area.

The final reason this was a better stay was our sleep. It is not near the airport/Duval or even that many roosters! We were able to sleep with windows open on beautiful warm Key West evenings. Most guests seemed to abide by the 10 PM quiet requested of the Inn.
