Owner description: See the best of Key West on the tour that has been entertaining visitors since 1958. Our expert 'engineers' and friendly staff have delighted guests with the legends and tales of Ernest Hemingway, and Tennessee Williams and the stories of the pirates, Indians, wreckers and artists who called this island home. 90 minutes and over 100 points of interest. No Key West vacation is complete without the world famous Conch Tour Train.

I really enjoyed the tour in the open air train. It takes you all over Old Town and points out all sorts of historical features of the island. You will look at the houses different as you walk around on your own after the tour. The only downside was the tiny seats.

Most tours with live narrative rise or fall based on the guide. Conch Tour Train Engineer Kenny does a fine job, keeping the narrative informative and understandable.

First, a word about the train. This must be my sixth or seventh tour on the train in the last 20 years. It is a "must-see" attraction to get your orientation in Old Town, Key West. The open-air, low-to-the-ground "train" seats help you connect with the points of interest and the vistas. The only detraction is the train route tends to wind around in a maze-like configuration, so you might want to keep track of your location on the free map they give you.

Engineer Kenny is especially good, as he is a native Conch, a master chef by trade. After retirement, he decided the train would be a good way to keep active. It shows that he enjoys his job. His narrative is clear and slow enough for foreign-language speakers to readily understand. The previous day we took the same tour where the narrative by another guide was far too fast and accented to be understood clearly by foreigners.

(Remember your ticket is good for two days. On the first day you can see all of Old Town, and on the second day you can use the Tour Train for hop-on, hop-off transportation.)

It is nice to get personal touches from a tour guide, rather than the perpetually memorized patter. Many tour guides tend to tell jokes and such to fill the time when they do not have interesting apropos things to day. Instead, Kenny talks about his grandmother's house and other family history. (But he does tell three of his niece's jokes.) Of course, he can answer most questions you throw at him. At a rest stop, he will volunteer to take pictures of couples comfortably seated on the train. Kenny is a people-oriented person, and the entire Conch Train Tour becomes an enjoyable experience.

Be sure and get Kenny's train for a great time.

We prefer the train to the trolleys--having done both. It goes slower and winds through areas not covered by the trolleys. If you just walk Duval St and the waterfront you miss a lot of great areas that are part of Key West History. The cemetery is marvelous as are the distinctive houses along the side streets of Old. Town. We always have our quests take this tour there first day in Kew West to give them a good overview. We have done it with great guides who provide humor and information and so so guides. Like any tour you take your chances with the guides.

This train ride has a quality program. Enough history to be interesting yet not induce coma. Tour covers lots of Key West which a nice way to acquainted with the town and decide what other places to visit. Tour is 90 minutes and makes a couple of stops. You can get off one train hang around that area and get back on another train, pass is good for two days.

This was just an OK tour. It was a 90 minute trip (we got off after an hour). It was pretty boring and expensive. I paid $61 for 2 people and honestly, it was not worth the money. We could have rented one of the bicycles all day for that price.
