“very interesting and informative visit!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 2, 2010

Since I a a literature fan I really wanted to see Hemingway House and was not disappointed. The house is lovely and you get to move around freely to take fotos and such while waiting for the guided tour. The six toed cats give the house a nice touch. There is also a lovely bookstore. I found many books (collector items) that I would have liked to buy but I did limit myself to one! We found the house very charming and the tour of the house was done really nicely.

“Okay unless you really like cats.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 11, 2010

Not a bad tour, the house and grounds are very nice. Lots of pictures of Hemingway and cats all over the place. We saw 4 inside the house and at least 15 to 20 outside - they were every where that day. We are 'cat people' so we got a kick out of the six toed cats.

“Much better than anticipated”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 9, 2010

Having read the mixed reviews, I was frankly not all that excited, though EH is one of my favorite authors. However, the visit was terrific. The house itself is fine, but the grounds and his writing studio are the real treat. The fact that they let you take as many photos as you wish throughout the entire property is a bonus as there are many great photo ops. The brief tour helps you identify some things you would not necessarily know, but they don't pressure you to take the tour. You are free to roam the house and grounds at your leisure. And if you happen to be a cat person (I'm not), there are 50+ felines strolling the grounds looking to be pet and cuddled.

“Literary history at the price of overbearing tour guides”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 11, 2010

First the positive- interesting history, beautiful gardens, cats are fun to see. The negative- guides are not very special, they practically 'shook us down' for tips at the end of the tour. Although $12 does not seem like a lot, it is for the quility of the tour guides. I also heard 3 of them talking about the tourists in a negative way- generalizations about tourists. True there are the pushy ones, the know it alls and the wild kids. But not sure they realize they depend on us for their living. The place can get crowded quickly so I suggest going early or duing off times. If you MUST go, then go. But if you are not a literary buff I would skip this tour.
