Owner description: Ernest Hemingway lived and wrote in this for ten years. During that time he wrote seventy percent of his life-time works. Today we operate as a museum providing guided tours every fifteen minutes from nine to five. The Museum is available for weddings and corporate events. Visit this National Historic Landmark, Literary Landmark and recognized by the Library of Congress for it's importance in U.S. History. Grand Architecture, Lush Gardens, Educational Tours, Book Store/Gift Shop and the world famous Poly dactyl (six-toed cats).

Enjoyed the tour. Had never seen 6-toed cats before. Hemingway's life was very unusual. If you became an acquaintance of his, you became a character in one of his books.

For what you pay, you might expect a little more. However, I know that the money goes to preserve the home and grounds. It was neat to walk around the house and see where he lived, but for me, I enjoyed seeing the six-toed cats. On the day of our visit, they counted 45 cats. We even saw a few kittens! Many of them have been given names of famous actors and actresses. The cats may also go anywhere in the house, so, if you're allergic, you want to take extra precautions.

We really didn't know what to expect from this museum but we were really surprised to learn so much from the experience and this has fuelled a taste for Hemingway books. The house is charming and the tour is interesting and informative - it is a bite sized chunk of a legendary writer - made me want to know more which of course is a good thing! Loved he cats!

THANK YOU very much Belfast, UK for your 5-star review!!! We are glad you were inspired to read Hemingway after taking the tour. You may already know that Hemingway met his wife Mary when she worked for Time magazine in London.

Thought it a bit pricey to go in for 4 of us, two that didnt care at all about the history.....and saw some group walking through rather quickly...to us. We walked around the outside and took some pics. Saw what I wanted....the area. Plus had more time to see other historical sites. Get on a train tour or scooter rental if u want to visit several sites and are only here a few hours.

The tour guide was very informative and enjoyed his style of giving tours (Joe _.) The grounds are very nicely kept and the cats were lovely, The cats are not super friendly, but why if you have this much attention. Very nice. A tad pricy for just looking at an old house.
