“Fantastic place to visit”
Reviewed June 15, 2013

Fantastic to be able to visit the home of Ernest Hemingway and to enjoy his house filled with so many original pieces from his stay there. Our guide was very informative and delivered many amusing anecdotes. It was a delight to have such freedom walking round both the house and gardens, unhindered by the normal "Don't Touch" notices. But stars of the show must be the 40-50 polydactyl (six-toed) cats, many of them descended from their ancestors who lived with Ernest in his day. What stories they could tell?

THANK YOU very much London for your 5-star review!!! We are glad you enjoyed the tour. You may know that Hemingway met his wife Mary while she was working for Time magazine in London.

“A Must Visit”
Reviewed June 15, 2013

My wife and I visit Key West at least once a year and we never miss a visit and a tour of Ernest Hemingway's Home. Its the most beauitful place on the little island and the little gift shop - bookstore always has the neatest stuff and its still in character and not all modernized up like an airport shop. We love the cats and like sitting on one of the benches and contemplating what it must have been like when Hemingway actually lived in the beautiful home. The swimming pool is just fantastic surrounded by tropical shrub, palm trees and sub-equator plants and that blue water. The home is surrounded by a head high brick wall and the entrance is on Whitehead St and its not expensive to get in and you will get a tour guide who will take you all thru the two floors and all the rooms as they weave tales of Hemingway and a few of his wives and how they lived. Its location is not at all too far a walk back to the crazy action on lower Duval St if you want to visit Sloppy Joe's where it is said Hemingway did his hanging out, but some dispute this and claim it was Capt. Tony's Bar just down a side street not far from Sloppy's. Both have big black and white pictures of PaPa on the walls along with other memoriblilia. They are both worth the walk. After a beer or whatever at these two former Hemingway haunts you might wish to get over to the Key West Public Library on Flemming and trace more stuff on the great writer.

Hemmingway was a very colorful man and his home in Key West shares a portrait of this stage in his life.

Whether you're a fan of classic literature, American history, or just typical Key West decor, make it a point to stop by this house. Definitely join a tour. They're free and happen so frequently it's worth waiting for.
