I love history. This fortress is well built. in addition to the architecture there were various exhibits inside pertaining to history in Key West. There was also an airconditioned art gallery that was interesting too. I was able to see this because it is right next to the airport. I walked over after checking in my bags while waiting for the flight.

“A short history lesson”
Reviewed August 14, 2013

My son and I went here as we both love history, and this is the best place to get an overview of the history in Key West. But just an overview! It touches upon a number of aspects of events and eras in Key West, but doesn't get into an depth about them. The fort itself doesn't have a lot going for it, but as it was never finished, and then left abandoned and picked apart for years, I guess they are doing a nice job trying to utilize the site. Didn't see much art, but we were there for the history!

“Art and History Museum”
Reviewed August 11, 2013

This museum combines art and history. Had no idea that the history of the Keys was so fascinating and varied. Wonderful art displays. Never thought I would get my husband out of the gift shop. Watch out for Robert, though.

What a beautiful, special place. A nice place to cool off after a few hours in the sun, with a beautiful view of the beach and water.
